  1. He was built by an engineer who specialised in building defensive automatons, which did not need consciousnesses. Aegis was his magnum opus who he was intending to sell to a wealthy family, to bodyguard them. However, whilst being shipped he was stolen by a young thoughtweft engineer named Ferrus who had been Aegis' creator's apprentice. Ferrus believed he could make Aegis better by giving him a conscious so he could learn the difference from right and wrong and therefore would defend the right people.

  3. He was successful in giving Aegis a consciousness but whilst Ferrus was trying to educate him in the differences between right and wrong, he was once again, abducted. This time, by a band of brigands who wanted to sell Aegis. He learnt from them, without their knowledge, that freedom was a lot better than being stuck as a robotic 'slave'. When he was later bought from the brigands, he escaped upon activation and found himself headed to freehope, due to the 'free' in the name symbolising freedom for him. His programming urges him to find a new 'master' to serve. Though he wishes to do this on his own terms.
