i. the term 'screencap' in this appendix refers to the method of capturing the video frame by use of the printscreen button or snipping tool

ii. the settings displayed in these guides should be fine for -most- people, if you are having difficulty after following the guide then refer to the items in this appendix or ask on /a/ (discouraged)

iii. many options have tooltips that will display when you hover over them, read these as they may help you determine what setting is appropriate for you


1. these are the containers haali splitter best supports, you may choose to support no extra containers if you wish

2. i don't care if you have a fuckin HT hex-core, turn 'process priority above normal' on

3. auto-load subtitles is required for the internal renderer
worker thread for the filter graph will be a slight performance increase on multi-core machines

4. ever-cp and evr sync, or vmr-9 renderless on windows XP, are the better output renderers that support the internal subtitle renderer aside from madvr, which you should not bother with unless you want to tinker until you get the best quality playback possible

5. bicubic A=-1.00 is my personal preference
bicubic is the best resizer available with evr, -1.00 has the sharpest resizing, -0.60 is softer with -0.75 inbetween. pick whichever you like best

6. if you have multiple monitors then tick this
without it mpc-hc can crash when moving it between displays

7. the main veriable with the buffers is video memory, if you set it too high for your system then playback will stutter badly
with a semi-modern graphics card 10~15 should be fine

8. uncheck the source filters that you installed support for with haali (matrosaka should always be unchecked)

9. if you have an ati card then 'Diable DXVA for SD' should be checked to prevent decoding corruption

10. the subtitle buffers mainly affect system RAM
at 0 the CPU load will be the highest, higher settings, 10 or more, can cause unexpected flickering, 3~5 is about right in most cases
maximum texture resolution is the resolution the subtitles are rendered at, Desktop is usually the best option, but if you have a multi-monitor setup then you may need to set it to the resolution of your highest resolution monitor

11. allowing animation while buffering is likely to cause flickering (mainly on karaoke)

12. make sure the box has a tick in it or the subs will not be rendered at their correct positions, which is bad for translated signs

13. setting this to 90000 will make a large jump 1 minute 30 seconds, the average time of an OP. the hotkey for large jump is not set by default, set it in the Keys page

14. the first option keeps the video fullscreen on the secondary monitor if you are active on the primary monitor
second option adds control buttons and thumbnail video frame to the taskbar icon

15. output range should be 0-255 or it will look shit

16. D3D fullscreen options may be required on older machines to playback smoothly in fullscreen mode
10-bit RGB settings will only make a difference if you have a graphics card and display that supports 10-bit RGB (1.07billion colors)
i saw no difference between having the floating point processing options on or off, check them for yourself
i experienced some pan rendering desync when i turned frame time correction on, so i leave it off

17. only turn on color management if you have installed a custom icc for your monitor

18. if you are using windows 9 or vista with aero on then all the v-sync options should be turned off
otherwise turn on as many as are needed to remove tearing

19. pre-buffer subpictures may be required to get you through areas, especially karaoke, with high cpu utilization
it may cause some subtitle flickering
the options for this in the vsfilter configuration window are the same as in the mpc-hc subtitle options now and should be treated the same

20. VFW interface is for the ffdshow video encoder settings
avisynth options add the ability to pass through avisynth to do post processing (optional)

21. these settings are relative to your speaker setup, if you have 5.1 then set to 3 front 2 rear and turn LFE on
'dynamic range control' makes it so the center channel voices don't sound too quiet when mixed to stereo from surround
thn on 'downmix to stereo' if you have a stereo speaker setup

22. 'touch window from the inside' is the only correct option
stretch to window will break aspect ration to remove black bars at full screen, touch from the outside will resize the video until there are no black bars and push some of the frame out of view
keep aspect ratio should always been turned on, don't watch shit in the wrong aspect ratio

23. a recent update to mpc-hc has turned off 'Fast seek(on keyframe)' by default because "it's causing various problems"
i am not sure what problems it is causing but it is now up to you to decide whether to use or not
