  48.
  49. "you probably should talk to the king."
  50.
  51. personality: [ isfj - introvert - hufflepuff ]
  52.
  53. jang haejoo is the last person to make waves of any kind. quiet and reserved, she rarely speaks up and keeps to herself. so much so that others tend to forget that she even exists half of the time, including her own parents. deep down this frustrates her as no one can honestly deal with being ignore their whole life, but she’s too afraid to change anything about it. doing so would mean stepping up and taking charge of her life, which also means taking action and potentially throwing herself to the wolves.
  54.
  55. the fear of being judged by those around her makes her passive in her actions and sensitive to the words of other people. she struggles with separating personal and impersonal situations, taking any negativity from conflict and criticism to heart. she tries to protects her own emotions by repressing them and choosing to focus on other people instead.
  56.
  57. accommodating, haejoo always strives to help others to her best ability. years of taking care of her home while her parents were away on business shaped her into an exceptionally responsible and considerate young woman. her meticulous, hard-working and empathetic nature along with her quick-thinking adaptability her the go-to person to rely on in any situation. however, her inability to say “no” makes her an easy target to take advantage of.
  58.
  59. it’s only through dance that haejoo can let loose and truly be herself. dancing doesn’t require words, just movement, which suits her just fine as she can express more in a choreography than she ever could in a speech. it’s a passion she wishes to pursue professionally but once again, the potential ridicule and failure stop her from making it happen. for now, she’s okay with dancing in the very back, behind everyone else (as always).
  60.
  61. or least that’s what she tells herself.
  62.
  63. background:
  64. for all haejoo’s life, it seemed like her parents were always up in the sky while she was left behind on the ground. her father was a top pilot of korea air while her mother was a former-flight attendant-turned-instructor who lectured all over the country. they were constantly away, leaving her to take on most of the household responsibilities. even when they were physically home, it was like they were mentally somewhere else, too busy preparing for their next assignments to acknowledge their only daughter beyond giving her a check for her tuition and cash for groceries. things at school weren’t much better. while her quiet, passive nature allowed her to get along with most of her classmates, it also prevented her from becoming close with anyone.
  65.
  66. the only solace she found was during dance club. at first she joined because she needed diverse extracurriculars for college and used to take lessons as a child. dancing soon turned into a passion and she attended every meeting without fail. still, stagefright prevented her from performing with the other club members, losing any camaraderie she could have shared with them.
  67.
  68. it was a lonely life, but it was hers and she didn’t feel like she had the right to complain when others had it much worse.
  69.
  70. it was pure accidental luck that changed her life as she knew it. she had meant to call her club leader about practice but misdialed and instead called a radio station giving away an all-expenses paid trip to Japan. she happened to be the lucky caller. her parents were against her going but in a rare act of rebellion, she decided to go onboard the passenger ship ‘Dreamliner’ to experience some adventure for the first time in her short life. and what an adventure she got.
  71.
  72.
  73. family and friends (name/age/relation/closeness):
  74. jang hyungmin | 49 | father | 2/10 | not close at all. while haejoo respects her father, his cold personality intimidates her so much that she avoids talking to him altogether. he just forgets that he even has a daughter most of the time.
  75.
  76. han jaehee | 48 | mother | 3/10 | closer to her mother compared to her father, but that’s not saying much. her perfectionist mother’s judgemental remarks on everything and everyone is one of main causes for her many insecurities.
  77.
  78. relationship with other slots:
  79. - gets along the best with INDIAN OCEAN since indian is one big ball of sunshine and she appreciates how warm and motherly she is.
  80. - doesn’t get along at all with PACIFIC OCEAN because pacific reminds her too much of both her parents in all the wrong ways possible.
  81. - feels most the nervous around ATLANTIC OCEAN considering how she never knows what’s going to set atlantic off, which stresses her out
  82. - wants to befriend ARCTIC OCEAN sensing there’s something more beyond the cold aloofness, but is also very, very, very intimidated by her
  83. - admires MEDITERRANEAN SEA for her outgoing nature yet is jealous of how mediterranean seems to effortlessly draw people in.
  84. - feel very protective over GULF OF MEXICO, going out of her way to look after the younger girl, despite her prideful nature
  85.
  86.
  87. strengths/talents/abilities:
  88. - dancing: she only started seriously dancing a few years ago, but practicing every day helped her become fairly competent. she’s nowhere good enough to be scouted by a talent agency or become a choreographer, but she’s slowly getting better and better each day.
  89. - endurance: she may not be the strongest or fastest person ever, but she’s able to push through any tiredness and fatigue to get things done. daily dance practice helped build up her stamina throughout the years.
  90. - quick-learning: while she’s just an average student academically, she’s still a quick learner in general. show her how to do a task once and she’ll be able to repeat it right away with reliable results.
  91.
  92. likes:
  93. - learning idol choreography: while she would never want to become an idol herself, she does like idol music and loves the dance moves even more. practicing the choreo from both girl groups and boy groups helps her become more versatile as a dancer
  94. - period dramas: watching them is pure fun espacism for her. she loves the traditional costumes and dramatic storylines, often wishing she could travel back to past and live an exciting life like her favorite characters.
  95. - the sea: she’s only been to the beach once in her life when her family vacationed in jeju island, but she fell in love with the view of blue ocean waves. the han river just can’t compare to her.
  96.
  97. dislikes:
  98. - airplanes: really anything that has to do with flying leaves a bitter taste in her mouth. seeing airplanes soar through the sky reminds her that her parents would rather be up there than down here with her.
  99. - cold weather: she hates snow, slush, rain, wind or any kind of weather that sends a dreaded chill to her bones. unfortunately for her, she lives in one of coldest cities in Korea.
  100. - getting lost: nothing stresses her out more than getting lost. it makes her feel helpless. she tends to panic whenever she loses direction.
  101.
  102. habits:
  103. - picks at her cuticles whenever anxious (which is all the time).
  104. - always looks down or off to the side whenever she talks to someone because direct eye contact intimidates her.
  105. - walks on her tippy-toes.
  106. - stammers when she tries to lie out loud, so she prefers to stay quiet and lie through omission.
  107.
  108. hobbies:
  109. - likes to stop by hongdae after school and on weekends to watch different dance crews do street performances, taking inspiration from them.
  110. - attends workshops at different dance studios whenever she gets the chance.
  111. - has non-stop period drama marathons every weekend, usually finishing a series in two days
  112. - leaves out food for the stray cat that lives in the alleyway next to her apartment (she’s too afraid to try and pet it though).
  113. - going to namdaemun market for fresh produce and street food.
  114.
  115. facts and trivia:
  116. - she has lived in seoul all her life and never travelled outside of korea until she boarded the ‘Dreamliner’.
  117. - wishes to travel all over the world and learn different styles from other dancers
  118. - is the definition of a latchkey kid, so she’s good at cooking and cleaning.
  119. - just graduated high school and is supposed to start college in a few months.
  120.
  121.
  122. thoughts on the laws of the land:
  123.
  124. haejoo believes in equality for all people and wants everyone to be able to live their best lives in peace. she’s so used to being on her own that the idea of a tight-knit community governed by its traditions and laws is very foreign to her. she also can’t stand the idea of people being excluded or shunned from their community, knowing how much the rejection hurts all too well.
  125.
  126.
  127. "love is unpredictable - it can raise you or make you fall."
  128.
  129. li (+backup li): jung hoseok (kim taehyung)
  130.
  131. their first meeting:
  132. how haejoo and hoseok is an accident, pure and simple. it’s a rather unfortunate accident for haejoo since she just go separated from her group, is hopelessly lost, and slips down a deep crevasse. hoseok’s minding his own business, tending to his instruments when a muddy girl suddenly crashes into his secret sanctuary. they stare at each other for a second, bewildered, and then they both scream. realizing that their hollering could wake up the entire island, he covers her mouth and tells her not to panic. she, of course, continues to panic until he starts playing his flute in an attempt to calm her down. it surprisingly works, allowing them to really look at each for the first time and wonder “who is this strange person?”
  133.
  134. how they act around each other:
  135. at first, their interactions are very tense and awkward and full of distrust. after he helps her get out of the crevasse that fateful night, they avoid each other, pretending like they never even met. it’s not until she starts purposefully sliding to the crevasse as a way to get away from the growing tension among the other stranded that they start to talk to each other. initially, they only argue over who gets to use the crevasse as their hiding spot. it changes when they tell each other why they’re hiding in the first place. over time, they bond over being ignored by others all their lives and share with each other their true selves that they keep hidden. they become each other’s first friend and the feelings eventually deepen into something more.
  136.
  137. slot's opinion on love and marriage:
  138. haejoo has never connected with anyone really, let alone been in love with someone before. she only has her parents’ cold relationship and the melodramatic romances from dramas as references of what love could mean to her. she wants to believe in soulmates with an everlasting love, but thinks it isn’t in the cards for someone like herself.
  139.
  140. scene suggestions with other slots (optional):
  141. - constant arguments amongst the girls on how to survive and what to do. haejoo gets into the most arguments with PACIFIC OCEAN b/c of their personality clashes and often run away crying.
  142. -despite their clashing, i still want the girls to start bonding with each other! girls gotta stick together
  143. - if there’s another who dances, i’d love a scene where they both dance together or she teaches the other slots how to dance
  144.
  145. scene suggestions with li (optional):
  146. - lots of late night talks where they share with each other about their lives, hopes, and dreams.
  147. - he plays his instruments while she dances. they teach each other how to do the same.
  148. - she tells him of the outside world and if she ever gets off the island, she’ll take him with her so he can experience it for himself.
