- Anon x Gaster: Research & Development
- (Requested by Anonymous)
- Closing the door to your car, you inhale and exhale softly, taking comfort in the cool midnight air, calming your nerves a bit.
- You're standing in front of the entrance to the forest of Hometown. Holding a bag of food and other items, you then proceed down the path, taking a glance behind you to make sure you are not being watched. You then continue down, the forest path dimly lit up by street lamps, spaced out quite far.
- You look up at one of them and see a flicker on the yellow bulb, looking at it for a moment longer than one normally would.
- It then flickered rapidly, then slowly, before stopping.
- You smile softly.
- He was indeed home.
- The path was incredibly long and whatever sign of infrastructure was definitely deteriorating, aside from the lights. Which made it one of the best places for him to live in complete isolation.
- Not to mention the entire town being surrounded by miles upon miles of forest, as well as the nearest city being about a half hour drive away.
- You shiver as a gust of cold wind blows over you. Something about that gust of air felt… staticky.
- It made you feel right at home.
- "Finally…" you say to yourself, having come to the end of the path, standing before a bunker overgrown with grass, moss and vines. If you didn't know any better, you would have just assumed it was a hill.
- You walk around the bunker, now standing before the entrance. Smiling in anticipation, you knock on one of the red doors in a pattern only you and him would know.
- Without missing a beat, the door slowly begins to open and you step inside, closing the door behind you, wincing slightly as the metallic door screeches at the last second.
- The inside of the bunker is as to be expected. Looking quite downtrodden and very dimly lit, a single dark yellow light bulb on the ceiling flickering.
- Sometimes you wished he would move to some other place. But you also knew he wasn't ready for such a thing. Not yet.
- Plus, he didn't quite live in such conditions.
- Looking at the walls, you see that the mold and moss has gotten slightly worse since the last time you were here. The 'Property of U.S Government' posters no longer present.
- You make it to the very end of the tunnel, a rustic, dilapidated door before you. Taking a deep breath, you give the same secret knock on the door, iron dust sticking to your knuckles.
- After a few seconds, the door shakes a bit before opening outwards, revealing a tall, slim figure standing on the doorway, donning a white lab coat, black pants and shoes, black pens pinned in the shirt pocket and clutching a clipboard with several sheets of research papers clipped onto it.
- He takes a step forward and gives you a smile. To others, it may unnerve them.
- But to you?
- It warms your heart like nothing else.
- "I was worried you were going to be late." He said in a gentle, slightly melancholy tone. You step towards him and present the bag, containing all the items he wanted, as well as some of his favorites.
- His smile only widens as he sets aside the clipboard on a lab table and embraces you, pulling you into his laboratory as he does so.
- The door closes behind you as you return the embrace, giving his chest a gentle nuzzle, looking up at him.
- "You know I always arrive on time."
- He chuckles softly, "Indeed. I was wrong to doubt you."
- You sigh happily as he places a kiss on your head, simply enjoying the moment and his closeness. You visit him quite often, but even a few days feels like an eternity to you.
- "I also made sure to get some of your favorites by the way. They should hold you off until I visit next time." You tease, breaking the embrace with him, albeit hesitantly.
- Gaster looks over to the bag you brought and his smile grows, taking out the several basic utilities and getting right to the good stuff.
- It makes you smile to see him happy.
- Especially over some packs of ramen, which he had quite a fondness over.
- "I thought these were rare to find…" He said, examining a bag of luau barbecue onion rings, as well as a packet of M&M chocolate cookies.
- "Maybe here in town, but they're quite common in the city. I also got you some new flavors, maybe you'll like them?"
- "I do appreciate that. Variety is the spice of life after all." He smiles, setting the items aside for later to organize.
- You hug him from behind, "I hope I got everything you wanted."
- He chuckles, another pair of hands resting on your shoulders as he turns and hugs you.
- "Not a single thing missed, my love."
- The laboratory Gaster lived in was incredibly clean and bright, looking like what one would expect in a modern laboratory. In stark contrast to the bunker that hid this place.
- Even his personal room looked quite homey and comfortable.
- You wished you could stay here forever with him.
- "Would you like to join me in an experiment I am doing?"
- "Hmhm. What kind of a question is that?"
- Gaster smirks and hands you your own lab coat, as well as some gloves and clipboard.
- "In that case, I am currently doing an experiment involving some rodents I captured around the bunker. The results have been quite interesting so far, but it would be far more interesting to have a second opinion and analysis on this."
- Nodding, you follow Gaster to a large table near the center of the lab, seeing five rats in a small maze of sorts, all of them grouped up in an open area.
- "After several hours of testing every rat individually, I realized something…"
- "When I was coming up with conclusions and overlooking my notes, I saw that they were moving around the maze by themselves and making quite a ruckus."
- "At first, I figured they were trying to escape. Or maybe they ran out of food. So as I was refilling the bowl, I noticed that they were running around, not because of annoyance or fear…"
- "But because they were looking for one another!"
- You smile, gently petting one of the rats as they squeak and try to climb onto your hand.
- "Looking for one another? Like… hide and seek?"
- "Precisely, Anon! It was such fascinating behavior to observe. They hid near dead ends, even when they knew there was only one way out. They went through complex routes that resulted in then never being found.
- "I started placing new little obstacles and hiding places and they used those as well. They would start squeaking and playfully nipping one another once they were found, then they'd follow the seeker out of the maze and do it all over again."
- Gaster then looked over at you, smiling brightly, "I would love for you to see this first hand and give your own thoughts and conclusions. Be sure to reward them with the treats at hand once the game is over as well."
- You smile and nod, grabbing the pen Gaster handed you as you get your clipboard ready.
- Once he sees that you are ready, he sets a few more items across the maze, lifts up the barrier that separated the rats from the maze and began the experiment.
- You and Gaster observe attentively as the rats moved around a bit, then four of them began to run into the maze, the fifth one standing still for a few moments before following one of the paths.
- The two of you stand closer together as you examine the rats taking different paths and 'hiding' in several areas and inside of some items Gaster has placed about, such as in a tube of cardboard and under a little canopy made of empty snack cake wrappers.
- The seeker rat quickly began to find the rats, causing them to squeak a whole lot and tussle with one another for a bit, albeit playfully, as you observe them not using their teeth, simply nuzzling and pushing one another.
- The found rats head back to the beginning as the seeker rat gives up on finding the other rat, heading back as well.
- As per Gaster's written instructions, you reach over to the small plate containing treats for the rats. You place the treat before the rat hiding inside the cardboard tube, the rat quickly nibbling it down and going back to the middle.
- "Quite fascinating, isn't it?" Gaster turns to you, having written down his notes. You nod as you gaze into his eyes, lost in them for a moment before you hand him the clipboard.
- He takes it, but instead of looking at them, he sets the clipboards aside and places both of his cool, soft hands on your shoulders, looking down at you as his smile grows.
- "I say we compare our notes for later… and get some rest. The trip here must have been quite taxing for you after all."
- You don't dare object. Instead, you wrap your own arms around his slim but firm figure, resting your head on his chest as he brushes some hair away from your face, resting his head above yours and planting the softest of kisses.
- You felt safe and secure in his embrace. You felt his love and admiration for you.
- You felt… complete.
- You also felt like you would stay here for longer than what you or him had originally planned.
