  1. STRAFE®
  2. Alternate version
  3. Written by Sgt Nate V
  4. Based on trailers and a script by PIXEL TITANS
  5.
  6.
  7. E3 BUILDING, LOS ANGELES 1995
  8. PIXEL TITANS BOOTH
  9. A PIXEL TITANS Spokesman walks up to the booth. A giant monitor is behind him displaying the PIXEL TITANS logo.
  10. SPOKESMAN:
  11. We now present our feature preview…. STRAFE®!
  12. The image on the monitor then fades to the STRAFE® logo forming as seen in the trailers.
  13. The image then slides to the starting room. The player then picks up the shotgun and heads into the teleporter. A minute of footage is shown. That, however, is enough to spark the audience’s interests.
  14. The monitor zooms in and shows a green wireframe still of the game.
  15. SPOKESMAN:
  16. STRAFE®… Is it a game? Or is it REAL?
  17. After the Spokesman finishes, a GLUTTON bursts out of the wall behind him, smacks him in the face, and menaces the audience watching, particularly our protagonist Tommy. Suddenly, the GLUTTON becomes a green wireframe and disappears.
  18. The spokesman chuckles as he gets back on his feet and wipes the blood off his face.
  19. SPOKESMAN:
  20. STRAFE®, the best game of 1996!
  21. The crowd cheers. We see Tommy cheering with them.
  22. MAY 9th, 1996
  23. We see Tommy skateboarding home from a store, clutching a big-box copy of STRAFE®.
  24. What follows after that is a montage of news reports.
  25. REPORTER 1:
  26. STRAFE®, advertised as the best game of 1996, lives up to that title.
  27. INTERVIEWED BYSTANDER:
  28. His head literally went BOOM! Pieces of brain went flying everywhere!
  29. REPORTER 2:
  30. The Priest of the local Church proclaimed STRAFE® as [BLEEP]ing sick… sick as in Totally Awesome.
  31. TOMMY’S HOUSE - NIGHT
  32. Tommy is calling all his friends about STRAFE®.
  33. TOMMY:
  34. Yo, I just got STRAFE®. Wanna come see me play?
  35. MIKEY:
  36. Hell yeah I do!
  37. ABBY:
  38. Ooh, that sounds fun!
  39. BUDDY:
  40. You have STRAFE®? I gotta see this!
  41. JOBY:
  42. You’re the cool dude now Tommy.
  43. We then cut to Tommy playing the game with his friends huddled around him. Multiple clips of the game, interspersed with shots of Tommy are shown. The crowd CHEERS! Abby gives Tommy a kiss.
  44. Tommy keeps playing. We see close up shots of him rapidly moving the mouse and typing the keyboard. His computer tower starts getting hotter and emitting smoke.
  45. ABBY:
  46. Tommy, STOP!
  47. Tommy doesn’t care. He does soon after his computer shuts off from overheating and his monitor flies off onto the ground.
  48. TOMMY:
  49. We need more RAM.
  50. THE NEXT DAY
  51. Tommy, RAM chips in hand, carefully installs them. He then calls Abby.
  52. TOMMY:
  53. I’ve got those RAM chips in and I’m ordering Pizza. Are you in the mood to see more blood?
  54. ABBY:
  55. Of course I am!
  56. Tommy is playing STRAFE® again, this time with Abby by his side.
  57. ABBY:
  58. Wow, you beat your own record! You get a fat slice.
  59. Abby goes to pick up a thick slice of pizza. Suddenly, A beam of light bursts from the monitor and GRABS Abby!
  60. TOMMY:
  61. ABBY!
  62. He tries to pull her back, but it’s no use. Abby is sucked into the monitor, and into the game as a result. All Tommy has of her now is her pants.
  63. LATER
  64. Tommy has all of his friends gathered in his house.
  65. TOMMY:
  66. We’ve got to get Abby back, guys.
  67. MIKEY:
  68. How? She’s literally in the game!
  69. TOMMY:
  70. I’ve heard rumors on TV about a machine at PIXEL TITANS headquarters that allows you literally go INTO STRAFE®!
  71. PIXEL TITANS BUILDING - NIGHT
  72. We see a shot of the PIXEL TITANS skyscraper, moving upwards from the bottom. A PIXEL TITANS sign is displayed on the top of the building.
  73. Buddy’s car drives up to the front of the building. Tommy walks out.
  74. TOMMY:
  75. I’d like to see Mr. Raney please.
  76. GUARD 1:
  77. You are not allowed to see Raney at this time.
  78. TOMMY:
  79. It’s about STRAFE®.
  80. GUARD 2:
  81. Very well then. Access is granted.
  82. Tommy is in the laboratory of Stephen Raney, CEO of PIXEL TITANS and lead developer of STRAFE®.
  83. TOMMY:
  84. Mr. Raney, I really like your game.
  85. RANEY, in a chair with his back facing TOMMY:
  86. I’m not taking autographs at this moment, kid.
  87. TOMMY:
  88. That’s not the point. The point is while I like your game, I’m not so sure about it now that it took my girlfriend Abby.
  89. Raney is surprised to hear this and gets out of his chair.
  90. RANEY:
  91. It WHAT?!
  92. TOMMY:
  93. The game literally pulled her in!
  94. RANEY:
  95. I’ve got a little history about the game, young man. Sit down with me.
  96. The two sit down.
  97. RANEY:
  98. STRAFE®, started as nothing more than a little, project you could say, with regenerating levels. The rest of the game, however, autogenerated itself. I then decided to sell this game, marketing it like similar games from a couple years back. I gave a free copy to my first son for him to play. All was well, until that fateful day I lost my second.
  99. TOMMY:
  100. How did he die?
  101. RANEY:
  102. I wasn’t aware of the effects on those under the age of, about 12. My wife saw him playing the game, to her horror, and saw him having seizures and vomiting while playing. Eventually, his head exploded. We buried him, and I was infuriated at my own creation for causing the death of my son. I didn’t expect the game to do any more than that.
  103. TOMMY:
  104. I also came here to ask if there truly was a machine that could send me into the game.
  105. RANEY:
  106. Ah, yes. I built that so people could step into their favorite games and play it for themselves. I did intend the user to feel pain. I programmed it so that the user would not die when they would usually die in the game. STRAFE®, however, didn’t seem to follow that programming.
  107. TOMMY:
  108. I don’t care that I might die or not, I just want Abby back!
  109. RANEY, pointing to the machine:
  110. Very well then, step onto that pad over there and put the helmet on.
  111. Tommy obliges. Raney activates the machine. Tommy then begins to vigorously shake and electrifies with green energy all around him.
  112. TOMMY:
  113. THERE’S NOT ENOUGH POWER! WE NEED A SURGE!
  114. Raney then notices a can of SURGE. He runs in front of Tommy, shakes the can, and sprays it on him, giving the machine enough power to teleport him into the game.
  115. TOMMY:
  116. YEAAAAAAAAAAH!
  117. Fade to white.
  118. Fade back to reveal the…
  119. ICARUS – ZONE 1 OF STRAFE®
  120. A large green sphere appears in the middle and fades away to reveal Tommy with the Shotgun from the game. Tommy wanders around the area, and then hears footsteps. GLUTTON footsteps. He fires at the GLUTTON, prompting PAINT IT RED from the game’s soundtrack to begin. Tommy shoots a few more GLUTTONS as he goes along, forgetting that the physics in the game do not apply to him anywhere else as he tries to STRAFE-JUMP like the game. He then sees a group of GLUTTONS charging at him, with a STALKER with them. TOMMY then activates the Shotgun’s flak grenade, eviscerating the GLUTTONS. He then fires upon the STALKER, beheading it. In the corner of his eye, Tommy notices a Railgun, glowing gold as it does in the game. He picks it up and shoots a CARRIER on the ceiling. After that, he goes into a corner and retrieves a keycard from a corpse. He moves the other way into the unlocked door. Inside, he sees Abby, without her pants… and another Abby!
  121. TOMMY:
  122. Abby!
  123. ABBY:
  124. Tommy!
  125. FAKE ABBY:
  126. Tommy.
  127. The fake Abby is low-poly and has a text-to-speech voice to us, but with the realism of STRAFE®, Tommy can’t tell the difference!
  128. TOMMY:
  129. Alright, which one is the real Abby?
  130. ABBY:
  131. I’m the real Abby!
  132. FAKE ABBY:
  133. I am the real Abby.
  134. Tommy points his gun at the real Abby.
  135. ABBY:
  136. Your favorite kind of Pizza is from Pizza Hut!
  137. He points his gun at the Fake Abby.
  138. FAKE ABBY:
  139. Your favorite kind of Pizza is from Pizza Hut.
  140. ABBY:
  141. Your favorite Ninja Turtle is Michelangelo!
  142. FAKE ABBY:
  143. Your favorite Ninja Turtle is Michelangelo.
  144. TOMMY:
  145. I think I know who’s the real Abby.
  146. Tommy shoots the real Abby and goes with the fake. GLUTTONS rush out towards him. He opens fire on a few.
  147. TOMMY:
  148. HEY STEVE! GET US OUT!
  149. RANEY’S LAB
  150. Raney flips a few switches and pushes a button. Tommy and the Fake Abby immediately fall from a hole that appears in the ceiling. Fake Abby just stands there and picks up a wrench off a table, while Raney checks up on Tommy.
  151. RANEY:
  152. Are you OK kid?
  153. Tommy:
  154. I’m fine- LOOK OUT!
  155. Just before he sees his attacker, the Fake Abby smacks him on the head with the wrench. She then proceeds to smash his face in.
  156. FAKE ABBY:
  157. Die.
  158. TOMMY:
  159. Why’d you do that?!
  160. FAKE ABBY, lying:
  161. He was trying to kill you for knowing too much about STRAFE®.
  162. Tommy falls for it, just like how he fell for what she said back in STRAFE®.
  163. TOMMY:
  164. Wait a second. The real Abby lost her pants when she was sucked into the game.
  165. This realization makes Fake Abby go all aggressive on Tommy. He starts chasing him through the building.
  166. Fake Abby kills the guards that try to kill her. Tommy then jumps out of the window. Fake Abby looks out and sees no Tommy. She then continues her rampage. Cut to Tommy just barely hanging onto the building. When he feels the coast is clear, he gets back in and runs out as fast as he can into Buddy’s car.
  167. OUTSIDE PIXEL TITANS
  168. BUDDY:
  169. Yo, where’s Abby?
  170. TOMMY:
  171. I’ll tell you later. Let’s go!
  172. The car speeds off.
  173. TOMMY’S HOUSE
  174. Tommy is explaining everything.
  175. TOMMY:
  176. So, you see, I accidentally killed the real Abby, and took the fake. I noticed it after she killed Raney, and then she chased me. The fake was a creation of STRAFE®. Who knows what she may be doing now.
  177. We then see Fake Abby robbing someone’s parked car and speeding off into the grasslands. The owner then comes onscreen.
  178. CAR OWNER:
  179. HEY! GIVE ME BACK MY CAR!
  180. Fake Abby is seen at an energy block in the grasslands, outside the city. She takes some wires she had with her and begins to connect them to the block. She then finishes with connecting to cords together. A portal opens up behind her. Enemies from STRAFE® pour out.
  181. Rifts into STRAFE® are shown opening in the city, and all around the world. Tommy and his friends watch a news report on the TV.
  182. REPORTER 1:
  183. Rifts to the popular game STRAFE® have opened up around the world. Monsters from the game are attacking us as we speak. I advise you stay in your homes, gather what weapons you have and can make, and keep your homes secure, as-
  184. The reporter is cut off as a carrier leaps up and tears him to shreds.
  185. TOMMY’S HOUSE - DAY
  186. TOMMY:
  187. You see that guys? STRAFE® is generating levels in the real world! I told you what the Fake Abby would do!
  188. MIKEY:
  189. This is bad, bad news.
  190. JOBY:
  191. Got any plans?
  192. BUDDY:
  193. Hold up, what’s that under your computer?
  194. Buddy points to a Shotgun from the game materializing from a green wireframe under Tommy’s computer. Tommy walks over, picks it up and cocks it.
  195. JOBY:
  196. If it did that for you, then that means-
  197. MIKEY:
  198. We get guns too!
  199. TOMMY:
  200. You three don’t even have STRAFE®.
  201. BUDDY:
  202. We can just get some from a gun shop, right?
  203. TOMMY:
  204. I was gonna say that I’ve got a pistol in my house for defense.
  205. JOBY:
  206. I call it.
  207. Tommy then walks over to a drawer, pulls out a pistol, and hands it to Joby.
  208. MIKEY:
  209. He’ll kill himself trying to work that thing!
  210. BUDDY:
  211. Oh, I bet he knows how to use it.
  212. TOMMY:
  213. C’mon guys, we have no time to lose!
  214. Tommy gets his skateboard and the four run out of the house.
  215. CITY - DAY
  216. Tommy hops on his skateboard and starts shooting whatever monster crosses his path. Some TURRETS detect him and open fire. He blocks with his shotgun, and shoots back. Joby frantically dashes out, shooting GLUTTONS and STALKERS alike.
  217. MIKEY:
  218. Fear me, monsters, as I know Karate.
  219. And he does, as kicks the heads off of GLUTTONS and severs the head of a CARRIER. They finally stop at a Gun Shop.
  220. TOMMY:
  221. Take whatever you can find, and quick!
  222. Joby tosses out his pistol and grabs an UZI. Mikey snags a M-16. Buddy finds two MP5Ks. The four rush out with skateboards they also found at the store right next to the gun shop. Buddy wheels out as two GLUTTONS swarm him on his left and right. He quickly disposes of them. He unfortunately falls victim to a STALKER’s shots. Joby fires at some ACID JELLIES erratically, soon falling victim to the ACID WRETCH in front of him. Mikey’s skateboard hits a manhole cover, causing him to fall headfirst into TURRETS.
  223. TOMMY:
  224. Looks like I’m the only one left.
  225. Tommy shoots more GLUTTONS and makes it to the center of the city, where Fake Abby waits for him.
  226. TOMMY:
  227. YOU! YOU’RE THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!
  228. FAKE ABBY:
  229. You are so cute. I would enjoy your death.
  230. Tommy doesn’t give two shits, gives her the finger, and shoots her right in the head. That is also a trigger for all the monsters to find him. He jumps right back on his skateboard and fires the flak grenade right at them. He unfortunately then crashes straight into another horde of GLUTTONS, who tear him apart.
  231. TOMMY:
  232. AAGH! HELP! SOMEBODY! HElp, me…….
  233. Those were Tommy’s last words as we fade to black.
  234. HALPER’S HOUSE – NIGHT
  235. We then immediately cut to a first-person view. Not Tommy’s view, but someone else’s. We are watching through the eyes of Jonathan Halper. Halper devoted his entire life to STRAFE® ever since it was released. He had heard of the news reports when he recorded the latest episode of his favorite show. He gets up and walks to his closet. As he opens the door, we see that he loves STRAFE® so much, he even made a costume of the player character from the game! Halper suits up and walks out, but not before he picks up the Shotgun that just generated at his computer.
  236. CITY – NIGHT
  237. Halper encounters three GLUTTONS. He shoots the three as fast as he can. A FAST GLUTTON charges at him from behind. Halper swings his shotgun at it. He hits so hard, he sends the GLUTTON into a tree! A STALKER above attempts to shoot Halper, to no avail. Halper returns fire, knocking the STALKER down from the building. He eventually comes across an UPGRADE MACHINE. Halper inserts his gun into it. While he watches the robot inside, a CARRIER sneaks up on him. Halper smacks it with the wrench on his suit without even looking at it. Once the upgrade is finished, Halper retrieves his gun from the machine. His shotgun is now a SUPER SHOTGUN! He then goes deep into the city, shooting whatever comes his way. He shoots an ARMORED GLUTTON behind him, but that just takes down it’s armor. He then shoots it again, sending it up high! We cut to a view of Trevor’s mom washing the dishes, when the GLUTTON crashes through the window! She glances at it and throws it back out. Back to Halper. He finds a group of STALKERS waiting for him. He just jumps over them and fires a flak grenade at them. Speaking of Secondary fires, he’s gonna have to use that a lot, because three HARVESTERS appear right in front of him! After a flak grenade takes them out, Halper upgrades his shotgun at another machine, this time giving him the CLUSTER BUSTER. He hears a sound, then looks up at the dark sky. Flickering in the sky, are the words…
  238. ZONE TWO: BLACK CANYON
  239. Halper continues his rampage, and then suddenly a large cave generates in front of a pathway, blocked by a stone wall. Next to the cave, however, is a corpse holding an ION FUEL TANK. Halper grabs the fuel tank from the carcass, and places it delicately on the stone wall. The fuel tank suddenly emits a high-pitched noise, and Halper knows that’s when he should run. Eventually, it explodes, clearing the pathway for him to enter. Just as he enters, A LARGE HIVE enters Halper’s sight. A dose of CLUSTER BUSTER does it in. Halper looks on as he witnesses large chunks of building turn green and reshape into parts of the Canyon. Halper runs right next to a BRICK, waking it up. Halper fires at it, but he then runs out of ammo and has to reload. Just before he does, though, a rocket is fired straight at the BRICK. It looks to where the rocket came from, and a Tank is there. The BRICK runs over and crushes the tank in its bare hands. This, however, gives Halper the time to fire his CLUSTER BUSTER at it, killing it. Halper continues the massacre against STRAFE®. He then jumps over an ACID GLUTTON and shoots it. Instead of blood, orange acid spills out from the wounds. Good thing Halper landed on a safe spot. He then sees a HARVESTER and pulls the trigger on it. He didn’t get that good of a shot though, but then a Soldier from the U.S. Army finishes the job for him with an M-16. Halper then opens his helmet.
  240. HALPER:
  241. Guess the threat was so big, Clinton had to call in the Army, huh?
  242. SOLDIER 1:
  243. Correct. You that guy who always has first place in the SPEEDZONE®?
  244. HALPER:
  245. Yeah. How about we work together?
  246. SOLDIER 1:
  247. A few of my fellow Soldiers are here too.
  248. The soldier points to some other soldiers behind him. Halper and the soldiers form a group and begin taking on the horrors of STRAFE®. Soldiers fire at any enemy they can. A HARVESTER rips one open. Another is thrown right into a wall by a BRICK. One soldier shoots a STALKER right in the head.
  249. HALPER:
  250. Look! There’s the exit!
  251. Halper points to the exit door. The group, or at least what remains of them, rush in.
  252. HALPER:
  253. Ok, we need a plan. STRAFE® is reshaping the planet into another of itself.
  254. SOLDIER 2:
  255. We split off into two groups and take them from there.
  256. HALPER:
  257. Might work out, zone 3 is gonna generate soon. Let’s go!
  258. Halper pushes a button, opening the door. The group splits in half. Halper fires a CLUSTER BUSTER at three HARVESTERS. The gore splatters on everyone near. Halper takes the time to wipe the blood off his helmet. This gives a GLUTTON the PERFECT OPPURTINITY to sneak up on him! Halper ROUNDHOUSE KICKS the GLUTTON into a pool of acid.
  259. SOLDIER 3:
  260. Look over there!
  261. The soldier points to a chunk of cave reshaping into a doorway. Inside the doorway is a control room. Halper walks in carefully. The sky now reads
  262.
  263. ZONE 3: THE BURBS
  264.
  265. Halper looks at some energy bars near the control panel. Only three out of four are there. Halper then notices a cart adorned with a bloody corpse. That cart has another energy bar. Halper installs the energy bar and activates the door.
  266. SOLDIER 1:
  267. Good thinking lad.
  268. The soldiers and Halper enter the door and encounter some HOSTS and HOSTESSES. One of the HOSTS uses his laser rifle as a club, swinging at soldiers about. While one soldier is distracted taking on the HOST, a HOSTESS aims and fires at him.
