- Activists Fear Santa Susana Field Laboratory Woolsey Fire Toxic Materials - Deep Dive
- The Woolsey Fire tore through the Santa Susana Field Laboratory, a Cold War-era rocket testing website and atomic research center, alarming community members and doctors. The website from the hills between Chatsworth and Simi Valley endured a partial collapse, in a few of the worst nuclear accidents in the nation's history.
- Activists assert the fire might have burnt through toxins already proven to have polluted the soil and plant around the site and maybe discharged them to the atmosphere with smoke and ashes. The 2,800-acre centre is also called Rocketdyne.
- The state agency responsible for responding to poisonous material accidents issued an announcement Friday at 1:30 am, asserting the Santa Susana Field Laboratory didn't pose any immediate threats.
- The announcement said L.A. and Ventura county fire department hazardous materials specialists affirmed there's not any risk.
- However, DTSC also suggested that state inspectors also haven't gone and completed complete testing since the Woolsey Fire remains an energetic evacuation zone. "When access is open we'll assess the website, the air monitoring stations, and accessible information," the condition additional.
