  6. A: Depends a lot on the wall, usually it's impossible without TAS, in the above example it's rather simple with holding walk and strafing against the wall and bumping into it as many time as possible until the weapon starts to move up and down quickly.

  8. Q: Are you using a modified version of Doom?
  9. A: No, I don't use any modified WADs. You can download the demo file (.lmp) and play it using your own copy of the original WAD and a vanilla compatible sourceport or the original .exe, if any modified version was used the demo would have to desync when you play it. It is however possible to edit textures without causing desyncs, this is not something I've ever done and there would hardly be any advantage from it. In other words, everything I do is possible on the final original version which is avaiable on gog or steam. Note that Doom 3 BFG edition and recent unity versions might have differences from the original.

  12. No tools are ever used unless TAS is mentioned in the title, otherwise it would be cheating. The demo\recording is done in a sourceport which accurately reproduces doom as it was played originally. The video is made by playing the demo in prboom-plus\dsda-doom sourceport as it has a lot of features like uncapped framerate and higher resolution.

  14. Q: What does TAS do?
  15. A: I can input movement values (building) tic by tic (or frame by frame @35 fps), I use this when I want to either optimize movement, do a difficult trick or check a lot of different inputs (bruteforce) to achieve something. Segmenting, slow-motion, cheat codes like IDDT and IDBEHOLDL or 3rd person view to look around the work in progress demo is also done depending on what type of TAS I am making. Cheat codes like IDDQD or IDKFA are never used and they don't even work.

  17. Q: What sourceport are you using?
  18. A: For IWAD speedruns I currently use crispy doom when I record demos, for videos I use PrBoom-Plus or DSDA-Doom. The exact sourceport I used to record a certain demo can be found on dsdarchive linked below. I would recommend DSDA-Doom first of all to anyone though, unless you are goingt to play brutal doom.

  27. A: If I upload a speedrun it is always a world record at the time of uploading, my current best times can be found in the youtube playlists.

  30. A: There are many Tool-Assisted Speedruns (TAS) for doom which are significantly faster. It is possible to make a frame by frame demo which greatly reduces the time, even for single level runs it is impossible to get close to a TAS.

  32. Q: What is UV-Speed?
  33. A: UV stands for Ultra-Violence, which is the hardest difficulty besides nightmare and also the most commonly used for speedrunning. Speed (aka "any%" for other games) is the category where the objective is to finish the level as quickly as possible. In the case of a full game run the objective is to start at map 01 and finish map 30, that means that map 31 and map 32 are optional.

  36. A: NM is Nightmare! difficulty, the hardest difficulty for doom.
