he keeps a watchful eye on her because he’s worried about her health — that’s always been his priority (once his curiosity was properly sated) so he watches for discomfort or fatigue because she does seem to stubbornly push the limits of her body to places that are a real cause of concern for shinji. internally fussing is a full-time job for him, but the way his worries have shifted to shirou would shock him were he not so thoroughly preoccupied. he wants her to be comfortable and he wants to see her smile. he’s got such a soft spot for these emiyas and knowing cú is keeping a similar but much more casual watchful eye on everyone as well puts shinji somewhat at ease. nothing can get by both of them. the benefit to spending decades at cu’s side is knowing him well enough to not need to bother with words.

i think for the most part he would rather die than say “i want to drink from you all the time” because that’s so embarrassing and he wonders if that would be the thing that finally makes her question his character — that’s an anxiety he can’t bear to entertain. he was so self-assured before shirou got here! he’s been ruined by pesky emotions!!! but i think his mostly innocent addiction would eventually start to show through subtle action and less subtle voraciousness. eventually he can’t hide his eagerness. he craves the connection and he craves her milk and (SUSTAINED INTERNAL SCREAMING) he likes the warm fuzzy feeling he has and how he always wants to take a nap tangled up with her. hhghghgh him loev cowgirl.
