  5. Heart Shaped Bed saw a major shift toward a darker, more atmospheric sound (in contrast to Natural Born Losers and other albums before it) that incorporated elements of trap. Will we be hearing a similarly dark sound in the future, and if so, what other genres would you like to experiment with to achieve it?

  7. i think the shift in tone was in part because that record was made post-playing shows..it was the first time I was writing a record while trying to also conceive how it might be live as well. Which sort of steered heart shaped bed in different directions… This record is generally very different from that, but my love/hate relationship w drums is ever changing haha so maybe in the future haha

  10. you’re literally my biggest inspiration, and was wondering how you get inspired for your songs and what’s your writing process?

  12. right now my writing process been taking songs from the ground up with either a guitar or piano. sometimes i'll have the song idea in a poem form first. but ya i've been keeping it all rly stripped so I can focus on the lyrics and melody at hand-not get swept up thinking 3 steps ahead. I’m always inspired by certain places and people, personal to me, but with quarantine I’ve been reading so much and that’s been very inspiring as well!!!

  19. i hope its ok if i answer these together: i don't quite know what u call it but i'm definitely drawn to things i can find both pretty and maybe strange or or ugly?not the right word. and with clothes i rly love to buy old things and live in different eras haha

  25. Risa and I met on tumblr! throughout the years we've always stayed in touch and corresponded thru email. she is my favorite artist EVER. i lost my mind when she sent me the draft of the heart shaped bed cover. i hope to always work with her on things.

  30. it was such an honour to do! and i think it was the coolest way to have done something despite how different we are haha

  33. i had a question about your music and what it means to you. when you you were younger what made you find your gift in the music industry and how did you take your gift and make it what it is today

  35. it really started with a love of writing. i wanted to write books when i was young, but eventually started turning ideas into songs, and bell just rang inside me. it felt very right

  40. ahh!! at Mahalls! this past tour my favorite song to do each night was only angels have wings!

  45. its a very personal record which i didnt set out 4, but i also didnt fight myself and tried to run with my intuition. it also feels like the darkest record of mine by a long shot, but i dont know if thats more lyrically speaking than sonically

  48. hey ! wasn’t expecting you to join honestly and im thrilled you’re here. i really love some of your older works, especially tracks like “have you seen me” that have more of a grungy metallic flair to them. im wondering if you’ll ever produce more songs like that? your soft vocals really compliment the harsh instrumentals and they sound fantastic together. hope quarantine is treating you well < 3

  81. i love pop so its always been tempting haha but while fun in theory... attempts were always strange. maybe 1 day, or 4 a different project altogether!

  86. omg i forgot abt that, i dont even remember everything that was on it... im gonna have to go looking thru my old hard drives to see what i can find. i know there were a few songs i scrapped off it and didnt put on tumblr
