  1. On Monday February 27th, 2012, WikiLeaks began publishing The Global Intelligence Files, over five million e-mails from the Texas headquartered "global intelligence" company Stratfor. The e-mails date between July 2004 and late December 2011. They reveal the inner workings of a company that fronts as an intelligence publisher, but provides confidential intelligence services to large corporations, such as Bhopal's Dow Chemical Co., Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and government agencies, including the US Department of Homeland Security, the US Marines and the US Defence Intelligence Agency. The emails show Stratfor's web of informers, pay-off structure, payment laundering techniques and psychological methods.

  25. Hey Meredith and Scott, I would like to give you a brief update about my
  26. new sources after the security conference that I attended this past
  27. weekend. (Meredith, I asked Scott to give me permission to attend this
  28. conference in November to expand my source network). List below does not
  29. include all new sources, but those who can and willing to cooperate. I
  30. believe these new sources will enhance our ability to gather information
  31. on technical issues such as energy, military and foreign trade.
  32.
  33. Cheers,
  34. Emre
  35.
  36. Source: One guy and one lady from Turkish State petroleum company (TPAO).
  37. Guy is an expert on energy security in the Middle East and the lady works
  38. on the Caucasus, Central Europe and Black Sea. They both are responsible
  39. for natural gas and oil.
  40. Status: They are really willing to cooperate and at the end of the
  41. conference we have a personal relationship. Will be exchanging views and
  42. information with them in the future. I am pretty confident that they will
  43. provide us valuable information. They also told me that they will talk to
  44. their superior this week to buy a Stratfor institutional subscription. I
  45. will let you know when I hear from them.
  46.
  47. Source: Expert in the Turkish army's strategic research center.
  48. Status: Willing to cooperate. Exchanged contact information. But I'm not
  49. sure about his qualifications.
  50.
  51. Source: Turkish air force official, head of strategic planning. He says he
  52. writes speech notes for air force commander when he attends national
  53. security council.
  54. Status: He was very willing to talk during lunch and dinner. He said he
  55. would be happy to provide information to me if I've questions.
  56.
  57. Source: Turkish diplomat at Turkish FM's NATO department.
  58. Status: Promised each other to exchange information. I know many people
  59. from NATO department but could get in touch with him if needed.
  60.
  61. Source: Expert in Undersecretary for Foreign Trade.
  62. Status: I didn't meet this guy at the security conference. I knew him from
  63. my undergraduate studies. We met in a reception at least five years ago. I
  64. had to get some information from foreign trade institution for a special
  65. report that I will be working this week. He helped me to get in touch
  66. with people could answer my questions, who gave me tons of information for
  67. my research. They said I could ask them anything that I would like to know
  68. in the future.
  69.
  70. Source update: My main Kurdish source (TR 705), who informed us about PKK
  71. ceasefires three times in the past, has become a member of the Turkish
