[18:07] <LawfulNice> It's only a short time before the Atlantis pilots and their Evas are returned to Ryan's Island. Karla and Asuka are both given very detailed examinations to determine if the Dirac space contaminated them in any way. Both are given clean bills of health - or at least nothing NEW is wrong with Karla.
[18:08] <LawfulNice> Unit 02 and 04 have their cores removed. After what happened to Nevada, they don't want to take any chances with Unit 04's presumably sabotaged or flawed core, and after 02's exposure to the Angel they need to check the biologicals in detail.
[18:08] <LawfulNice> Both Evas are put in storage in Japan.
[18:09] <LawfulNice> However, to keep up defenses, Japan is assigned Unit 03, recently completed despite budget cuts from Karla's project. Atlantis base is also supposed to receive a new pilot today, a transfer of one of the backup pilots.
[18:11] <LawfulNice> However, today is also the first day you're all waking up at home instead of somewhere strange.
06[18:15] * Garfield_Galon-Gandiva is already up by at 6 am, back to work practically as soon as she got back on the island. So many things happened in her absence, and so many things need to be done. The Dirac Sea may have been more restful.
06[18:17] * Malachi is woken up by Karla's movement because everyone is usually asleep in the house until 20 minutes before school starts. He heads downstairs and hover in the doorway, looking at Karla.

[18:24] <Malachi> "It wasn't your fault I think. I dunno what happened but exploding and accidentally ending up in an alternate universe for two months isn't usually something people mean to do."
[18:25] <HLeviathan> She laughs, "That's not what I meant Mal," she ruffles his hair playfully, "I won't be going away again. From here. You."
[18:26] <Malachi> "Well yeah but."

[18:26] <Malachi> "You can't promise not to make a mistake again, because you didn't mean to do it."
[18:26] <Malachi> "Um."
[18:27] <HLeviathan> She smiles, "Breakfast?" She offers a diversion.

[18:27] <Malachi> "Ooh, yeah. I have got better!"
06[18:27] * Malachi charges to the fridge and rummages.
[18:28] <Malachi> "What do you want? Baxter kept buying us really nice food."
[18:28] <HLeviathan> She smiles again, misunderstood but happy.

[18:33] <LawfulNice> Neil, your airplane touches down on an obviously new runway. You got a good look at the island as you were coming in. It's nearly bare volcanic rock, a city at the edge of the sea huddled against a volcano. There was some kind of canyon in the middle of the city, filled with mist. The NERV base off in the sea was large, and in the shallow water you could make out some squared shapes that...
[18:33] <LawfulNice> ...looked like sunken buildings.
[18:35] <LawfulNice> Karla, Mal - you've driven up to meet Neil. You're on the Tarmac as his plane comes to a stop and a boarding ramp is put in place.
06[18:37] * Malachi is a bit tired and wobbly. He stands vaguely to the left of and behind Karla.
08[18:38] * Neil_MacManus steps out of the plane, stretching his arms out and taking in the sea air. With a deep breath and a smile on his face, he begins to parade himself all too proudly down the boarding ramp before seeing Karla and Mal.
08[18:39] * Neil_MacManus raises a hand in a wave: "Didn't realize I'm getting VIP service! You two are from NERV?"
06[18:39] * HLeviathan is back in the wheel chair, dressed for the weather, which is tropical and shitty after months in the Dirac Sea. A black tank top, fingerless gloves and jeans. "Morning," Karla greets him, "Welcome to Ryan's Island."
06[18:39] * Malachi defers to Karla, and kind of stands idly.
08[18:41] <Neil_MacManus> "Oh yeah, I suppose it is morning now isn't it?"
08[18:41] * Neil_MacManus shakes his head...
08[18:41] <Neil_MacManus> "Jet lag from Belfast and all that. Oh well. Am I going to have the pleasure of meeting the new team?"

[18:42] <Malachi> "Hiya."
[18:42] <Malachi> "I am some of the team."
[18:42] <HLeviathan> Karla nods. "I'm Doctor Karla Ortega, this is my son Mal."
08[18:43] * Neil_MacManus does an exaggerated bow: "Missus." He then turns to Malachi.
08[18:44] <Neil_MacManus> "So you're gonna be the big guy I'll be workin' with huh? I've got your back, Mal."
08[18:44] * Neil_MacManus ends the sentence with a playful punch to Mal's shoulder.
[18:44] <Malachi> "Oh good."
06[18:44] * Malachi doesn't really respond to it.
[18:45] <HLeviathan> Karla laughs at the greeting, "Have a good trip?"
08[18:46] <Neil_MacManus> "As good as a cramped plane will give you...although the destination certainly is nice. S'almost like I'm on vacation...only I suppose I'm here for work, aye?"
[18:48] <HLeviathan> "Some of the time anyway," she smiles, "Shall we?" she turns her head to indicate a van.

08[18:49] <Neil_MacManus> "Ready for whatever you've got planned."
[18:50] <Malachi> "I don't think anything? What stuff do you do for fun."
[18:50] <HLeviathan> She rolls off in the direction of the van, and after a minute is behind the driver's seat while Mal has stashed the chair in the back.
08[18:51] <Neil_MacManus> "Fun? Hrmm..."
08[18:51] * Neil_MacManus thinks...
08[18:51] <Neil_MacManus> "Well, my brothers arn't here anymore, so putting them in arm bars is out of the question. Whats on your mind, big guy?"
06[18:52] * Malachi shrugs.
[18:52] <Malachi> "Chris is depressed and stuff and I dunno."
08[18:54] <Neil_MacManus> "Well then we should cheer her up! We're on a fucking island arn't we? (Apologies miss for the language...) Has to be a beach or two. Come on, let's drag her out of her sorry slump."
[18:54] <Malachi> "I sort of tried that. Also I don't know where she is anyway and she doesn't usually answer her phone."
06[18:54] * Malachi leans to the front of the van.
[18:54] <Malachi> "Is he getting Liz's room?"
[18:55] <HLeviathan> "Don't fucking worry about a fucking thing fucker. I'm Forty-fucking-two but that doesn't mean I'm a fucking prude," Karla laughs as she keeps her eyes on the road.
08[18:55] <Neil_MacManus> "I'm stealin a ladies' room? And I haven't even bought her dinner yet?"
08[18:55] <Neil_MacManus> "Missus, you have my upmost fucking respect."
[18:56] <Malachi> "No she went crazy and tried to kill me and then ran away in an Eva."

[18:57] <HLeviathan> She laughs again, "Actually, that's an important question," she speaks a little more soberly, "We can get you your own place Neil, or you can stay with us. It's up to you," she eyes him through the rear view mirror.
08[18:58] <Neil_MacManus> "Well, this Liz sounds like a charmer. I'll remember to keep my head low when around her. As for where I live, anywhere is fine missus."
[19:00] <HLeviathan> "Tell you what," Karla says, "You've got a few routine tests to do Neil. Dr. Baxter is running your EVA through its paces. Mal can show you around NERV, you can get all the bullshit done and out of the way and afterward we can go have dinner. You can decide then."
08[19:01] <Neil_MacManus> "Didn't realize It was such a big deal. Someone just flip a coin and we'll call it decided, aye?"
[19:01] <Malachi> "No it'll be ok."
[19:03] <LawfulNice> As you approach the base, Neil gets his first good look at it.
[19:03] <LawfulNice> There's a massive retaining wall protecting an internal bay.
[19:04] <LawfulNice> The wall has obviously been patched in one spot, the metal only having a basecoat of weatherproofing paint on it.
[19:05] <LawfulNice> The tower inside has obviously been recently rebuilt. It is, in fact, still undergoing construction in spots. The upper few floors are still just open girders and much of it is entirely unpainted. There's a clear line between older and newer sections.
08[19:06] <Neil_MacManus> "Well, these things don't seem to fuck around do they?"
[19:06] <LawfulNice> Several ships are moored in the internal bay. There are people milling around, most of them from one of the island's main construction company, Portside.
[19:06] <HLeviathan> "The last one used the Volcano as a weapon according to the reports," Karla mentions.
06[19:06] * Malachi is looking out of a completely different window.
[19:07] <Malachi> "You know, I was there."
[19:07] <Malachi> "I am a more direct source than reports, I can't believe you read reports instead of just asking me."
08[19:08] <Neil_MacManus> "Well, points for ingenuity whoever came up with that brilliant plan."
08[19:08] * Neil_MacManus snickers a bit, then mutters: "Mum's in trouble."
[19:09] <HLeviathan> Karla laughs again.
[19:09] <Malachi> "...Hur."
[19:10] <Malachi> "Ok so what do I need to show him?"
06[19:10] * Malachi looks over to Karla again.
[19:10] <Malachi> "The synch stuff and, what?"
[19:11] <HLeviathan> "Really, I just need you to keep him distracted until Baxter is ready," she smiles, looking at Neil more than Mal, "You can show him B00 of course."
[19:12] <Malachi> "Oh, right."
08[19:12] <Neil_MacManus> "Giant robots make good distractions."
[19:12] <Malachi> "Yeah."
06[19:12] * Malachi sits back.
[19:13] <Malachi> "When's your one here?"
[19:13] <HLeviathan> "Its already here," Karla says.
[19:13] <Malachi> "Oh what really?" Cool.
[19:14] <HLeviathan> "They moved it in in the middle of the night,"
[19:15] <Malachi> "Oh well that's fun then."
[19:15] <Malachi> "Does he need to do the tests and stuff now?"
08[19:15] <Neil_MacManus> "Figured they'd just forward the tests from before, but hopping into Irish for a few isn't something I'm against."
[19:16] <HLeviathan> "He'll need to do them within the next day or so, so I figured you could get it over with now," She looks at Neil in the rearview mirror again, "Busy, I know."
08[19:17] * Neil_MacManus leans back in his seat: "Whatever works."
[19:17] <Malachi> "I want to pretend that they gave up after that last one because they saw us killing eachother and thought it wasn't worth the effort."
[19:17] <HLeviathan> She nods and parks.
[19:18] <Malachi> "I don't think that happens though."
06[19:19] * Malachi gets out, and holds the door for Neil.
08[19:19] * Neil_MacManus gets out, and as he passes Malachi asks:
08[19:19] <Neil_MacManus> "So does everyone here try to kill eachother or something?"
08[19:19] <Neil_MacManus> "I feel as though this could put a serious dent into our wonderful friendship we have here."
[19:20] <HLeviathan> Karla stays in the van. "Mal, I'm going to go pick up Chris, see you in a bit, alright?"
06[19:20] * Malachi takes a moment and then laughs at Neil, and then looks to Karla.
[19:20] <Malachi> "Okay, see you."
06[19:20] * Malachi looks back to Neil.
06[19:21] * Chris-Northop is awake, walking around her room still in her pajamas looking at her brothers lighter. She looks out the window.
[19:21] <Malachi> "I don't but Liz started being crazy and hating me after some weird stuff happened that I don't really get."
08[19:21] * Neil_MacManus pats Malachi on the back.
08[19:22] <Neil_MacManus> "Women are a strange sort, and it is in our best interest that we give up on understanding them and just nod our heads."
[19:22] <Malachi> "I dunno, most people are like that I think."
08[19:24] <Neil_MacManus> "For the record, I will not begin stabbing you in the face for eating my snacks. Show the way big guy."

08[19:26] <Neil_MacManus> "Well, I've got Irish but I don't know what the rest of the Evas look like. The rest of the base doesn't matter much...I doubt we'll ever find ourselves giving orders from the headquarters or doing paperwork somewhere."
[19:27] <Malachi> "No we never get paperwork."

[19:27] <Malachi> "Do you have a card?"

[19:30] <Malachi> "I have one. Everyone who works here does."
[19:30] <Malachi> "We can get one though while we're here, yeah?"

06[19:31] * Malachi looks around as if picking a direction as they wander into the base.
[19:32] <Malachi> "Let's go look at the Evas. Then we can get you an identity card and stuff, and then we can do whatever, go to the synch test place thing."

08[19:47] <Neil_MacManus> "Aye, that I did. Apparently they were out of date though, so I'll be expecting you to take the lead when it comes down to combat, aye big guy?"

[19:48] <Malachi> "I usually run at them and hit them, so yeah I guess."

[19:50] <Malachi> "Okay the Evas are in here."
06[19:50] * Malachi swipes the card again. It waits a moment and then the door opens upward.

08[19:53] * Neil_MacManus steps inside, sees B-00, and whistles.
08[19:53] <Neil_MacManus> "Who's king caesar? I didn't realize the Romans were reinforcing us."

[20:17] <Malachi> "Er. He's the new pilot. He needs an ID."
[20:17] <LawfulNice> The Commander turns around. His eyebrows have mostly grown back. He smiles at Mal.

08[20:18] <Neil_MacManus> "Fresh off the plane and already touring the place thanks to Mal here."
[20:18] <LawfulNice> Baxter: "Oh, hello! You must be Neil!" He shuffles the paperwork around to free his right hand and holds it out to Neil.

08[20:19] * Neil_MacManus shakes it firmly. "That'd be me all right. Here to help and kick some ass."
[20:20] <Malachi> "Right, yeah. Can you get him an ID? I dunno what to ask for."
[20:23] <LawfulNice> Commander Buccellati: "I'm surprised he didn't get one already but, well, we have a lot of interns still settling in. I'll go and ask around a bit and see what the holdup is." He smiles and holds his hand out to Neil. "Commander Buccellati. I'm afraid I didn't have a chance to read over your file, Mister...?"

[20:26] <LawfulNice> Commander Buccellati's handshake is firm. "Well, it's been quiet around here, so with any luck you're just on vacation for a while."

[20:30] <LawfulNice> The Commander laughs. "Well. I'll leave you in Doctor Baxter's hands. Good day, gentlemen." He walks out.

[20:32] <LawfulNice> Baxter shrugs. "I'm fine. Almost caught up with paperwork. Oh, um, if you see your mom before I do, tell her I'll get that last box out of your house tomorrow. I just can't get there today to pick up the last of the stuff I left when I was staying there to take care of you all."

[20:33] <LawfulNice> Baxter: "Sure. Do you guys need anything?"

[20:38] <LawfulNice> Baxter: "Unfortunately, that's true. We barely have the mess hall running."

[20:43] <LawfulNice> Baxter: "Sure. I'll make sure it's waiting after the initial tests are done."

06[20:44] * Malachi looks at a sign on the wall, and points in what looks like the right direction.

[20:44] <Karla_Ortega> Karla and Chris arive at NERV and after a reasurance in the parking lot head to the EVA cages where they expect Neil and Mal to be, or will be shortly.

[20:48] <LawfulNice> You get there just in time to see Neil in his plugsuit, just about to get into Irish and start synch tests.

06[20:50] * Malachi looks over, and then goes over to them.
[20:50] <Malachi> "Hi Chris."
[20:50] <Chris-Northop> "Hey, Mal. Hi Neil." She smiles weakly.
08[20:51] <Neil_MacManus> "Ah, you're the one in a slump. Feelin' chipper now that you're out and about?"
[20:52] <Chris-Northop> "Not really." She says rather bluntly.
06[20:53] * Malachi puts his hand on his face and pulls it down.
06[20:53] * Malachi then laughs at Chris's respose.
08[20:53] <Neil_MacManus> "Well hopefully that'll sort itself out."
08[20:54] <Neil_MacManus> "Let's do these tests then do something that doesn't seem like work, aye? Food is always good."
[20:54] <Chris-Northop> "I doubt it..."
06[20:55] * Malachi goes over to the other side with Chris and Karla.
06[20:55] * Karla_Ortega smiles blandly at Chris' answer, and decides to back Neil up, "Yes, dinner would be good. You've done most of these tests before Neil. Its a formality, but its an important one, so just bare with it."
08[20:56] * Neil_MacManus shrugs: "I figured as much."
[20:56] <Chris-Northop> Chris nods and takes Mal's hand. "Tests suck."
[20:57] <Malachi> "Yeah but at least we don't all have to do them?"
06[20:57] * Malachi looks to Chris and smiles badly.
06[20:57] * Malachi looks back at Neil.
[20:57] <Malachi> "I like your plugsuit."
06[20:58] * Chris-Northop just looks at Mal, smiles very slightly and then looks back to Neil.
08[20:58] * Neil_MacManus gives it a tug: "Bit tight around the neck."
08[20:58] * Neil_MacManus then sees Chris and Mal's hands, and lets out a whistle and a grin.
[20:58] <Malachi> "You don't need to press the button until you're in the Eva really."
06[20:58] * Malachi doesn't follow him at all.
08[21:00] <Neil_MacManus> "Ah well." [turning to any techniticans nearby:] "We ready to go?"
06[21:00] * Chris-Northop rolls her eyes at the whistle
[21:00] <LawfulNice> Techs: "Ready whenever you are."
08[21:02] * Neil_MacManus hops into the entry plug and lets the tests begin. Once in, he hums a bit to himself and is otherwise still, occasionally rocking his head back and forth and looking around, obviously a little restless. Despite this, his Synch Ratio is surprisingly high and stable.
06[21:02] * Malachi kind of hangs back in the meanwhile.
[21:03] <Malachi> "Er. Did you sleep well?"
[21:03] <Chris-Northop> "Sort of..."
[21:04] <Malachi> "How is stuff?"
[21:05] <Chris-Northop> "Terrible. How about you?"
[21:05] <Malachi> "Better than yesterday."
[21:06] <Malachi> "Karla isn't dead any more."
[21:06] <Chris-Northop> "Yeah, that's pretty nice..." She watches the synch test despite there being nothing to watch.
[21:06] <Chris-Northop> "So is he like, staying with us?"
[21:07] <Malachi> "He was talking about not wanting to tale Liz's room or something but I think he was kidding or whatever. So probably."
[21:07] <Malachi> "It'd be weird though."
[21:09] <Chris-Northop> "Yeah..." She shifts somewhat. "I guess it'll even out the numbers...>"
[21:10] <Malachi> "Yeah and if we have to fight something we're a third less likely to get eaten."
06[21:10] * Chris-Northop blurts out laughter.
06[21:11] * Malachi smirks.
[21:11] <Malachi> "Hurr."
[21:12] <Malachi> "So we're going to dinner with him later."
[21:12] <Malachi> "Can you think of anywhere to go?"
[21:12] <Malachi> "I never remember."
[21:14] <Chris-Northop> "I guess... Everyone kind of hates us..."
06[21:16] * Malachi pauses.
[21:16] <Malachi> "...Well that's their problem, I don't care. It doesn't matter."
06[21:16] * Chris-Northop sighs. "Sure, we can go out."
[21:17] <Malachi> "We could wear masks."
08[21:18] * Neil_MacManus steps out of the entry plug, once all the tests are done and a clear is given.
[21:18] <LawfulNice> The displays are showing very good results after the testing.
[21:18] <Chris-Northop> "..." She doesn't say anything.
08[21:18] <Neil_MacManus> "Well? Am I up to snuff?"
06[21:19] * Malachi shrugs.
[21:19] <Malachi> "I think you were pretty good."
08[21:20] * Neil_MacManus throws his hands up
08[21:20] <Neil_MacManus> "And I make the team!"
[21:20] <Malachi> "I don't really know. Also I need to ask, what sort of stuff do you hear about things that happen here abroad?"
08[21:21] <Neil_MacManus> "Dangerous, sometimes explosive work that no one wants to dirty their hands with, but we can't live without it."
08[21:21] <Neil_MacManus> "Doesn't really matter what we think though, does it? We're sort of stuck here."
[21:22] <Malachi> "No I mean like what sort of spin is put on it on how we do."
08[21:23] * Neil_MacManus scratches his head and nonchalantly answers:
08[21:23] <Neil_MacManus> "We're fucking monsters."
[21:23] <Malachi> "Ok thought so."
06[21:24] * Malachi turns to Chris and shrugs.
06[21:24] * Chris-Northop sighs.
08[21:24] <Neil_MacManus> "Sometimes you have to be a monster to save the world, aye?"
08[21:25] <Neil_MacManus> "I'm gonna change out of this goofy suit and be back here in a few. Try not to get more down, Chris."
08[21:25] * Neil_MacManus gives her a wink as he walks out.
06[21:25] * Malachi waves him away as he leaves.
06[21:25] * Chris-Northop just stares back. "...not sure about him."
[21:26] <Malachi> "He says too many words."
[21:26] <Malachi> "I think he's ok though, I dunno."
[21:26] <Malachi> "Liz was better, mostly."
06[21:28] * Chris-Northop sighs. "He bugs me."
[21:28] <Malachi> "You didn't have to show him around the base."
06[21:29] * Malachi smirks again.
08[21:30] * Neil_MacManus comes up behind Malachi and puts his arms over his and Chris' shoulders.
06[21:30] * Chris-Northop jumps, grabbing her arm by the rist. "Fucking christ!"
06[21:30] * Malachi doesn't even look round.
08[21:30] <Neil_MacManus> "Show who now, fucker? Come on, I kept hearing about food and I haven't eaten since Ireland."
[21:30] <Malachi> "Also he touches people a lot."
06[21:31] * Malachi looks over to Chris and rolls his eyes.
