The two best hired guns in the West must save President Grant from the clutches of a nineteenth-century inventor-villain.
Jim West is a guns-a-blazing former Civil War hero. Artemus Gordon is an inventive U.S. Marshal who excels in disguise. When the United States is threatened by psychotic Confederate Arliss Loveless, President Ulysses Grant teams the duo up to bring him to justice. On a hazard-packed train journey from Washington D.C. to Utah, West and Gordon must combine their skills to best Loveless and his diabolical machines.
While the use of computer graphics was fairly impressive in Wild Wild West, the movie failed horribly in plot development and scripting. Wild Wild West was just unable to meet the expectations set by The Matrix and Starwars. It was unoriginal, the action scenes were not at all impressive, and about 90% of the better scenes were shown in the previews. I think I would have enjoyed the movie more if it came out a couple years ago, or at least before The Matrix, which in my opinion puts almost all other sci/fi-action movies to shame.
Let me say this: I loved the original show, but had no expectations that this movie would resemble the show.  Which was a fine expectation, as far as it went.  However, I do expect some creativity when an old concept is revamped - there was none here.  Beyond the gimmick of the mechanical monster, nothing was terribly interesting to me - Will Smith was not sufficiently contained, and there was no chemistry between Kline and Smith (and Kline&#39;s excellent acting was simply out of place).  Branagh - ugh! He was just a loon, and a super villain should be wily, too.  He just ranted and raved.  I was hoping for a movie where something ambitious was attempted, even if it failed spectacularly... but they tried for nothing, and succeeded.
