  1. *Three days after your world collapsed in Equestria*
  2.
  3. >Your name is Fluttershy
  4. >And, yeah
  5. >This is your life
  6. >You lie under the covers in your bed, staring blankly at the ceiling amid a small sea of potato chip bags and empty pints of ice cream
  7. >No tissues, though
  8. >You haven't cried once since that day
  9. >The day you started to hope again
  10. >The day that hope was ripped from your heart like a bandage from a wound
  11. >In the back of your mind, you think you really should clean up a bit
  12. >But, you haven't really had the drive to do anything for the past few days
  13. >Once you were out of junk food, you just stopped eating
  14. >It's not like you had an appetite, anyway
  15. >You would occasionally get up to use the restroom, but you can't find the energy to get out of bed
  16. >Oh hey
  17. >Ice cream containers
  18. >Problem solved
  19. >Once you were out of ice cream containers, you just started to piss yourself
  20. >If you thought anyone would find out, you wouldn't do it
  21. >But, fuck it
  22. >It's not like anyone's going to visit anyways
  23. >Even if they did, you couldn't get up to answer the door
  24.
  25.
  26.
  27. >And so here you lie
  28. >Emotionally broken, surrounded by trash, and wallowing in your own filth
  29. >It's fitting, really
  30. >You belong with the garbage
  31. >You belong with the filth
  32. >Ever since you were a filly, other ponies have tossed you aside without a second thought
  33. >Your own father made it abundantly clear how much he resented your existence
  34. >You were an accident, a fact that he would bring up constantly
  35. >Your father was a star athlete, with high hopes of getting a full ride scholarship to an extremely exclusive Canterlot college
  36. >He got your mother, a random party hookup, pregnant before he finished high school
  37. >Her family disowned her, and his family forced him to marry her
  38. >They both had to drop out of school to support you
  39. >Growing up, you didn't know anything was wrong
  40.
  41.
  42.
  43. >You thought everyone's family functioned like yours
  44. >Mommy eating handfuls of painkillers while she was supposed to be watching you and passing out on the couch
  45. >Daddy coming home after work and yelling at mommy until she woke up about the house being a mess
  46. >You practicing being quiet up in your room
  47. >You tried so hard to be quiet, because daddy scared you
  48. >And if you were quiet enough, sometimes daddy would forget that you were there
  49. >After he got done yelling at mommy until she started crying, he would start drinking
  50. >You didn't really know what he was drinking, but you knew once he started you needed to be extra quiet
  51. >If he saw or heard you, he'd start calling you names
  52. >To this day, you're not sure if he knew your actual name
  53. >He'd usually just call you retard, wingless, or some other hurtful, degrading name
  54. >The fact that he was such a fast flier and you, well, weren't...
  55. >It made him really mad for some reason
  56. >Mommy used to defend you
  57. >She would say that it wasn't your fault, that being fast or strong wasn't that important
  58. >Well, she sometimes did
  59. >Most of the time she didn't, because she knew if she did daddy would start yelling more
  60. >And if daddy kept yelling, she was going to get hit
  61. >After getting beaten a few times, mommy stopped sticking up for you
  62. >You didn't blame her
  63. >But it did leave a mental scar
  64. >Daddy hated you to the point that he would beat mommy if she defended you
  65. >And mommy let you get abused so that she didn't have to
  66. >But, it was your life
  67. >At least, it was until you went to live with your grandma
  68.
  69.
  70.
  71. >A few days before Nightmare Night, you went out to play with some of your friends from school
  72. >There was really only one, a small blue filly with a rainbow mane
  73. >All of the ponies in your school called you names like your dad did
  74. >They called her names too, like Rainbow Crash and Rainbow Dyke
  75. >The difference between you two is that she didn't let it affect her
  76. >You wanted to be like her, so confident and apparantly bulletproof
  77. >Anyway, you two stayed late after school so that you could play in the playground before you went home
  78. >You learned that the longer you stayed away from home, the better
  79. >When you were done playing, she walked with you to your house
  80. >When you got there, there were police cars everywhere
  81. >Apparantly, while you were playing, daddy got a lot more drunk than usual
  82. >He started beating your mom in her sleep, and ended up putting her in the hospital
  83. >Your neighbors heard this and called the police
  84. >You got there just in time to see your dad get hauled off in a black-and-white
  85. >The policeman in charge told you what happened, that your dad was going away for a long, long time
  86. >That your mommy was asleep and was unlikely to ever wake up
  87. >That they had called your grandma, and you were going to live with her
  88. >You didn't know what to say
  89. M-mommy and Daddy are really gone?
  90. >The policeman took off his hat and nodded slowly
  91. >You didn't know what to do
  92. >This all happened so fast
  93. >Your face knotted up, and you started shaking
  94. >You buried your face in the policeman's coat and started sobbing
  95. >He tried to comfort you as best he could, but to no avail
  96. >You cried for a solid ten minutes
  97. >Well, HE thought you were crying
  98. >You wanted him to think you were crying
  99. >That's how you should have responded
  100. >But, you weren't
  101. >You weren't even sad
  102. >You were laughing
  103. >It was over
  104.
  105.
  106.
  107. >The fact that you were glad you'd never see your parents again has bothered you to this day
  108. >I mean, they were horrible ponies, but they were still your parents
  109. >Sweet pony Jesus, you're hungry
  110. >That can wait, though
  111. >For the first time in several days, you're self-aware enough to realize you've been laying in your own piss
  112. >You grimace, and slide off the bed to stand up
  113. >As your foot hits the ground, you accidentally crush one of the ice cream containers
  114. >It wasn't hard, the acidity of the urine contained inside weakened the paper
  115. >But now you're left with a puddle of cold urine spreading into your carpet
  116. Oh my God. Fluttershy, you're disgusting.
  117. >You speak, your voice cracking from disuse, but you can still hear your own contempt
  118. >Whatever
  119. >You deserve it
  120. >Maybe if you were worthwhile, you wouldn't constantly get rejected
  121. >Maybe if you were worthwhile, someone would finally love you
  122. >But the fact is you do, and no one does
  123. >The other Elements have it easy
  124. >Twilight, that whore, has her books and Magical theory
  125. >And you've seen firsthand that being Honest, Generous, Loyal, or spreading Laughter will inspire Honesty, Generosity, Loyalty, and Laughter
  126. >But Kindness?
  127. >You've shown so much Kindness, only to have it thrown back in your face
  128. >You stumble over to the shower, cranking the temperature up as high as it goes
  129. >As you lay underneath the cascade of water, allowing the heat and motion of the water to cleanse you, your mind wanders
  130. >Back to the last time you were rejected
  131. >Before all of this with Anon, back when you were in high school
  132. >Back to Sunburst
  133.
  134.
  135.
  136. >Your grandma lived on the other side of Cloudsdale
  137. >Sadly, that meant switching schools, but due to the layout of the school system maps you were actually living closer to Rainbow than before
  138. >However, that didn't concern you as much anymore
  139. >Your grandma's neighbors had a son about your age
  140. >His name was Sunburst, and you developed a crush on him almost instantly
  141. >He didn't know anything about your past
  142. >He never made fun of you
  143. >He was nice to you for no reason, which is something you didn't have much of before
  144. >Soon enough you two were inseperable
  145. >But even though you did everything together, you never told him how you felt about him
  146. >You were scared he would leave, and you'd be alone again
  147. >But still, it was the happiest time of your life
  148. >Then came high school
  149. >At the beginning of your first year, you two were still best friends
  150. >But as time went on, you began to drift apart
  151. >He was handsome, athletic, and just cool in general
  152. >Whereas you weren't athletic, and were always socially awkward
  153. >Even though the castes of high school were pulling you apart, you tried to stay friends with him
  154. >And to his credit, he tried too
  155. >For a while
  156. >But, sports and parties became more important, and you were left by the wayside
  157. >Even though it broke your heart, you were still happy for him
  158. >He seemed happy
  159. >And even though you were sad, seeing him happy made you feel better
  160. >Because you loved him
  161.
  162.
  163.
  164. >By senior year, he was just another face in the hallway
  165. >So it came as a complete surprise when at the end of senior year he asked you to go to the prom with him
  166. >You thought he had a marefriend, and that should have crossed your mind
  167. >But you were too excited to think about things like that
  168. >You said yes without hesitation
  169. >On the day of the prom, you spent all day dolling yourself up for him
  170. >You weren't too sure about hooficures and makeup and all that
  171. >But you wanted to look beautiful
  172. >By the time you were done, you were
  173. >Even if you weren't the prettiest mare in school, you finally had some confidence
  174. >You acknowledged that even though you weren't perfect, you had some worth
  175. >And the fact that Sunburst acknowleged that too...
  176. >You couldn't wait; it was going to be the best night ever
  177. >At 8pm, you walked over to his house and knocked on his door
  178. >A rail-thin Alicorn answers
  179. >'What do YOU want?'
  180. >The emphasis she put on 'you' was as if she was trying to spit it out of her mouth
  181. Uhm.... Sunburst... asked me to prom.... and I'm here now...
  182. >She laughs, a sound that rings in your ears like breaking glass
  183. >'YOU? Baby, did you ask a weird little yellow pegasus to prom?'
  184. >From deeper inside the house you hear:
  185.
  186.
  187.
  188. >'Oh, wow! She actually came? I thought for sure she knew I was kidding!'
  189. >What
  190. >No
  191. >Oh, no
  192. >This has to be some sick nightmare
  193. >This can't be real
  194. >'What are you waiting for? You can go ahead and go home now.'
  195. >The alicorn slams the door in your face
  196. >You stand there for a second, then slowly turn around and walk away
  197. >You look down, at your perfectly manicured hooves
  198. >Your beautifly simple dress
  199. >Your wings, perfectly groomed
  200. >This was supposed to be your night
  201. >You trudge back to your house
  202. >Up the stairs
  203. >Into your room
  204. >Faceplant on the bed
  205. >And slowly
  206. >Softly
  207. >You begin to cry
  208.
  209.
  210.
  211. >Back in the present day, you're crying
  212. >Your shock out of catatonia has dredged back every sad memory of your past
  213. >The water, once almost scalding, has mellowed to near freezing
  214. >I guess you're done in the shower
  215. >You get out, and dry yourself off
  216. >You exit the bathroom into your bedroom
  217. >The scene disgusts you
  218. >There's garbage, piss, and garbage full of piss everywhere
  219. >This is abhorrent
  220. >No wonder everyone rejects you
  221. >Even Anon....
  222. >Your throat closes up at the thought of him
  223. >After not trusting anyp0ny for so long, you were desperate for love
  224. >And just when things seemed at their worst, the clouds broke and an angel descended
  225. >You found an animal wandering in the Everfree Forest
  226. >An animal with the intelligence of a pony
  227. >A scared, lonely animal, a long way from home
  228. >You took him in, gave him a home
  229. >And it seemed he was truly grateful
  230. >All was going well
  231. >You were still lonely, but at least you found a kindred soul in your lonliness
  232. >And then he kissed you
  233. >And your world shook
  234. >You felt a surge of emotion rush through you at that moment
  235. >Hot, starting at your heart, and rushing out to every corner of your body, filling it with a sensitive, tingling feeling
  236. >This had to be love
  237. >You couldn't get enough of it
  238. >After he fell asleep, you layed with your head on his chest for the rest of the night, listening to his heart beat
  239. >Even though you only slept a few hours that night, you woke up early, and feeling fully rested
  240. >You were so grateful to finally have somebody to care about
  241.
  242.
  243.
  244. >And then your world convulsed
  245. >'It was a mistake'
  246. >You couldn't believe it
  247. >You thought you'd finally found it
  248. >A real love you could count on
  249. >But, no
  250. >A mistake
  251. >But, just as despair was about to overwhelm you, he threw you a line of hope
  252. >He didn't dislike you, he just didn't know how he felt
  253. >It wasn't much, but it was something
  254. >And you took it
  255. >If he didn't know how he felt, you were going to convince him to love you
  256. >You had to get that feeling back
  257. >No matter what
  258. But it wasn't good enough, you fucking moron
  259. >You begin stumbling through your house, careful to not touch anything in your bedroom
  260. >You shamble down the stairs, lacking direction and talking to yourself
  261. If he wanted you, he would have said so by now.
  262. And besides, he's with that purple whore now
  263. >You really thought Twilight was your friend
  264. >Her betrayal stings, but not as much as the void you feel in your heart
  265.
  266.
  267.
  268. >Oh, God
  269. >That void
  270. >It's back
  271. >You didn't notice it's absence in the past few days, but then again you didn't feel much of anything
  272. >You forgot how much it hurt
  273. >Being the embodiment of Kindness in a harsh, uncaring world is rough
  274. But it's rougher when you've been unloved your entire life
  275. >You say it aloud, and the words echo in your ears
  276. I've been unloved my entire life
  277. >And that's the saddest thing you've ever heard
  278. >You think about the mess upstairs
  279. >That was horrible
  280. >You never want to feel like that again
  281. >You can't
  282. >Ever
  283. >You won't
  284. >You refuse
  285. I REFUSE!
  286. >You're shocked by how loud you are
  287. >But you don't care
  288. NO!
  289. NEVER AGAIN!
  290. I'M DONE!
  291. NO MORE SITTING AROUND WAITING FOR REAL LOVE!
  292. NO MORE CRYING MYSELF TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT, TELLING MYSELF IT'S ALL GOING TO BE OKAY!
  293. NO MORE NIGHTS SPENT AWAKE WISHING SOMEONE WOULD HOLD ME!
  294. >You spot the flowers that beautiful demon gave you what seems like a lifetime ago
  295. AND THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY....
  296. >You pick up the vase
  297. I CAN MAKE SURE....
  298. >You cock it back
  299. THERE AREN'T!
  300. ANY!
  301. MORE!
  302. >You throw it, as hard as you can, through the window and outside
  303.
  304.
  305.
  306. >Angel pokes his head in the doggy door, terrified
  307. >He has no idea what's going on
  308. Angel
  309. >He looks at you
  310. I need you to go find Rainbow Dash. You're going to be staying with her for a while.
  311. >He goes wide-eyed, and then takes off
  312. Such a good bunny....
  313. >You walk back upstairs, through your room, carefully avoiding the garbage
  314. >You open the medicine cabinet and pull out a bottle
  315. >Yeah, that's probably enough
  316. >You get in the tub and turn on the tap, letting the basin fill with cold water
  317. >You relax
  318. >And think about a happier place
  319. >Where you're loved and cared for each and every day
  320. >As the bottle of sleeping pills take effect, and you drift into unconciousness, your last thought is that you hope, wherever you go, you'll be loved
  321. >It's all you've ever wanted
