- Rhythm has a meter
- Often with some rhyme
- But Langston Hughes didn’t always do this all the time,
- So I don’t really know
- Just what I should do
- But if I want a grade I guess I’ll have to muscle through.
- You see, Miz DeMare
- (note the Miz, Miz DeMare)
- I need a point of reference,
- I need something to compare
- But I’ve only seen two poems by this man, though I’m aware
- That the Internet is bounteous; I can’t bring myself to care.
- To tell the truth
- (I say, forsooth)
- I’ve written something good already—
- A pretentious load of blather
- but it’s stable and it’s steady.
- The only issue that I have is that it’s in free verse
- Because, well, to be frank, to that form I am averse.
- If you would like,
- I will hand it in with this,
- But really, I think with it there’s something quite amiss.
- Don’t ask me what it is, though,
- I’m sure I couldn’t find
- Whatever phantom’s wreaking havoc about it in my mind.
- I’m not quite sure
- (is it obscure?)
- If this poem has a point.
- It may have started with something, but now may disappoint.
- The truth is that I’m tired
- Slightly wired and can’t concentrate,
- So right now poetry is not something that I can contemplate.
- This is my poem
- (just don’t show'em)
- For English III.
- Be it good or be it bad, it’s part of you and part of me.
- (And for that, I am quite sorry.)
