  1. Chapter One: Part Two
  2. When Barret came outside and asked Kayla if she was okay, she didn't respond directly, but instead said "I'm sorry.. I've just never seen so much blood. And just from your sister?" To this, Barret replied "Actually, it wasn't her blood, it was.. Nevermind." For a long time, Barret and his mother would be the only ones to really know how Eve died. Normally, Kayla would have asked about what Barret was hiding, but this circumstance was far from normal, so she withheld any questioning, at least for now.
  3. It was then that Barret's mother came outside and spoke. "John..", she started, using his real name that only she and Kayla used. "..We need to bury her. Tonight." Barret looked toward the sun, at it's past midday point. "Okay," he said, "First I'm going to get rid of these bodies." With that, he turned, went inside, and dragged the Mohawk outside in front of the house. Then he yelled at Parker who was standing guard with Bear at the south gate. "Hey, Parker, get over here!" At Barrets request, Parker, a tall, lean 15 year old, came running.
  4. When he got to Barret, he asked what was needed of him, and Barret told him that he would be helping dispose of the Mohawks. Parker just nodded and said "Yeah, okay." Barret went to the back of his home, grabbed the wheelbarrow and wheeled it up front. "Help me load him in," Barret said.
  5. "Ain't we gonna btake anything?", Parker asked. Barret glanced at the lifeless body and answered, "Not this one. The others, just take guns and ammo, nothing else." Parker replied with an okay, and the two tossed the first body into the wheelbarrow, then went to the other three. Parker walked ahead to get the loot while Barret brought the wheelbarrow. "Got us a sawed off, and a couple pistols. I think ones a 9mm, and the others a .38," Parker said, pocketing the .38 and putting the other two in his pack. Then he helped Barret load the bodies in the wheelbarrow, and the two started toward the north gate.
  6. "Where we taking 'em?" Parker asked.
  7. "Just gonna dump 'em in the field outside the north gate. Gonna let the ants and such deal with the bastards." After that, Parker didn't say too much. The two went, dumped the bodies, and Barret told Parker to go back to town with the wheelbarrow. He had something else to do first. "Alright. Hey, be careful man," Parker said as he turned and walked back to town. Barret, however, went north to where he left the bucket of water.
  8. After a long quiet walk, Barret arrived at the bucket. It sat right where he and Kayla left it, undisturbed. He looked into the bucket to make sure all the water was still there. It was, along with his reflection. When he saw that, he thought 'There's the man responsible.' His face had a tiny bit of blood splattered on it, either from the raider he shot in the back or the one he beat down. "Doesn't matter," he muttered to himself, picking up the bucket and walking back.
  9. It was getting late, the sun continuing it's descent to the west. After another long, quiet walk filled with thinking, and sometimes talking to himself, this time going in the other direction back toward town. On his way back, he saw a giant ant and a giant mole fighting over the bodies that he and Parker had dumped earlier. It appeared the mole was winning. Finally, the Ant gave up and just dragged an arm away in retreat. He'd probably bring friends back later. "Good riddance," Barret thought.
