  6. ---
  7. Integrated Writing: The first writing task (before independeng writing, which is the last thing on the test)
  8. DELTA 7 test 1 - Read about “super foods”. What are the three main points?
  9. ---
  10. - 3 minutes to read a text
  11. - listen to a lecture
  12. - 20 minutes to write about the points from the lecture and how they relate to points from the reading
  13. ---
  14. R0 (main idea from the reading) = some foods are “super foods” with a lot of nutrients and other helpful properties
  15. R1 = blueberries: good for the brain, protect from Alzheimer’s and (due to antioxidants) cancer
  16. R2 = tomatoes: red pigment lowers cholesterol and reduces cancer risk
  17. R3 = garlic: reduces blood cholesterol and prevents cancer
  18. ---
  19. Listen to a lecture on the same topic and take notes. (You’ll see the text again while you write, but you only hear the listening once.)
  20. L0 = the evidence for superpowered foods is incomplete and not as strong as the text says
  21. L1 = blueberry studies have only been on animals; we can’t say they have super powers without human data
  22. L2 = they might have these effects but we need direct evidence, not speculation
  23. L3 = garlic helped cholesterol for three months, but not six months; cancer studies were only done on animals, not humans
  24. ---
  25. How should you organize your response to this prompt?
  26. 1 Introduction: state the topic, summarize the main ideas from the reading and listening and explain how they relate (support or contradict?)
  27. 2 First point: summarize this point from the reading and from the lecture, and explain how the point from the lecture relates to the one from the reading
  28. 3 Second point: summarize this point from the reading and from the lecture, and explain how the point from the lecture relates to the one from the reading
  29. 4 Third point: summarize this point from the reading and from the lecture, and explain how the point from the lecture relates to the one from the reading
  30. ---
  31. If the lecture casts doubt on the reading, some of the relationships between points could be:
  32. - This casts doubt on the point from the reading that…
  33. - This should make us doubt the point from the reading…
  34. - This should make us question the point from the reading…
  35. - We should therefore be skeptical of the point from the reading…
  36. ---
  37. Read and listen to DELTA 7 test 2 and identify the main points
  38. ---
  39. BREAK
  40. ---
  41. Writing Practice - ETS 1 tests 1 and 2 (integrated)
  42. Email me with your responses when you're finished.
