  1. The Unseen Sons of Ythlo
  2. Our father Ythlo; The Second God, God of Air, of the invisible and ethereal, of magic, monsters, knowledge, and Lord of the Obsidian Throne. His actions covered in an air of mystery for who can see what the wind holds, and for that matter where or whence it goes? But for us the beginning was the War. His hidden children. To be hidden is to be protected.
  3. Why our father viewed the world as tiresome has been a theological and ethical debate for many years. However, it is the predominant thought that by some means he had predicted the turmoil to come.
  4. To know the turmoil of war was coming and he could do naught to stop it seems an appropriate cause for his seemingly idle stance. For Yama surely knew as well as God of Time but did nothing for it mattered not to him whether they were dead or living. Ythlo held himself back from imparting his power into the world wantonly. His creation of slimes and monsters an efficient method of occupying and denying certain territory to the creatures of Uranus.
  5. Ythlo ventured to the place of our birth, our mighty Vesuvius, and behind the veil of black smoke let out a mighty breathe of life. Beings of fire, fed by his breath, for there is no fire without air. A weapon to consume the sky father’s creations. Our fire sorcerers were powerful, our obsidian blades sharper than any mortal crafted weapon, and huge armors of obsidian that we might be hidden in the night. Our task was to find the sources of these creatures and destroy them. Our actions were swift and precise. Our father’s more pliable creations could be easily introduced into any environment where they could provide the perfect distraction and cleanup.
  6. In those days when the Gods walked among us magic was strong. We could travel from island to island and continent to continent as we willed. Battle, purge and cleanse by fire in the name of the Obsidian Throne without rest. The Breathe of Ythlo was in us and we used his strength to purge the unclean creatures of Uranus. To fight and die for the Father that his burden might be lessened is the highest honor.
  7. When the war was over, and the seas rose higher with the final tears of the Gods under the blood stars of their dead father, wise Ythlo left us with a final gift; knowledge. With the Gods departed the greater part of the world’s magic left with them. The Breathe of Ythlo that once flowed through the air was gone and our fires dimmed. Knowing that we could be more be more than this declined state of festering embers helped us recover from the departure of the Gods. We could make our own purpose, we were not lost but free.
  8. So it is that Vesuvius continues to be home to the Unseen. We seek knowledge to kindle our hearths and strengthen our people. We seek the fabled Obsidian Thone and the hidden libraries of father said to contain the knowledge that he considered too burdensome to keep in his head. Our bodies have cooled to the appearance of black rock lined with an ember glow, but our inner fire remains strong. Though the other races have found ways to sharpen and harden iron the sharpness of our obsidian blades are still sharper.
