While Bella's father was one of the humans that spent his whole life on Earth, her mother was diran. The dira are a people known specifically for their prowess in interstellar travel. While they are able to survive anywhere that they will, they don't like to stay in one place very long and are adventurers at heart. A diran woman named Aludra made her way to Earth alone, simply to see whatever these people had to give her. This was where she met a man named Edward and fell madly in love with him. They never married, though they had a single child together- a young girl left in Edward's bed in the middle of the night. When Edward woke up, Aludra was gone.

But, it wasn't like he was going to abandon this girl to the wolves. Edward named the girl Bellatrix and raised her as his daughter. When Bella was growing up, she was told that her mother was from the stars. It wasn't wrong, per say, but that was all that she was told. It felt like there was more to the story that she wasn't hearing. Bella always looked towards the sky, wondering if there was something that she'd be able to find about herself some day.

Bella's desire to get into space was ever present. The drive pushed her into engineering while people telling her no edged her into juvenile delinquency. Bella was a troublemaker as she was growing up, which only threw roadblocks into her goal of the stars. Still, Bella had a feeling that she would need to reach her goals on her own merit rather than someone else's. She was really just in the right place at the right time. A ship was leaving her town for Daedalus, and she had to be on it. She sneaked aboard and nobody thought anything of it. Except, it turns out that a sentient ship would notice that someone who doesn't belong on the ship is suddenly on the ship. She was quickly found out, and had to quickly fight to prove her worth.
That was two years ago. Now, Bella's sort of settled into life aboard Daedalus. Now, she's close than ever to finding out the secrets of her past.
