Volcanic Island - Akujima

My surname is written with the kanji for 'brazier' and 'twine'. My given name uses the kanji for 'kitchen knife' and 'vegetables'. I am a servant of the Akujima household."

The woman leads you to a room in the estate. Kneeling on the tatami on the other side of the bundai is a young… boy? The kataginu of his kamishimo seems too large for his narrow shoulders and small, slender frame. His delicate cheeks are flush with signs of fever, a pink that looks vibrant on an otherwise pale and anemic body.

"Ah, you must be the visitor I heard of. The envoy from another region…" The boy's voice is higher pitched than it should be. I am Akujima Ayato (操人), my given name is written with the kanji for loyalty and person. I am the daimyo of Akujima after inheriting the position from my late father. I hope this visit was not too inconvenient for you."

Beside him is a girl in the red and white robes of a miko. "I am Akujima Yuki (雪), written with the kanji for snow. Is the tea to your liking? Perhaps you would like some ochazuke instead?" Her voice is irreverent and dismissive, as if you're beneath her notice. That's all she says before turning the gaze of her crimson eyes onto Ayato, giving him her full, raptuous attention.

"That won't be necessary, Yuu-chan." He tries to smooth over his imouto's impoliteness by turning back to you, all business. "Thank you for coming to visit. The lands of Aishiji are in dire straits, and it is my duty to care for my people. The battlefields have changed with new technologies, and by fate, this normally irrelevant island has resources which are vital to war efforts. Ultimately, we simply desire continued autonomy and have no real interest in a war that we would be mere pawns in. But we realize that those with ambitions for the shogunate will seek what we have. So, whether you wish for an alliance, or are here to declare hostilities, I only hope this land can soon set conflict aside.
