- >Lisa sat alone in the club, stirring the ice in her virgin martini aimlessly.
- >It was invite-only, not that anyone would come unless you were invited to this god-forsaken end of Southern California.
- >But it was a place to get away from the endless fawning of her students and the mindless bickering of collegiate politics.
- >The band tonight was decent enough, if not particularly gifted.
- >The piece shifted to something unrecognizable, though.
- >"May I sit here?" a familiar voice asked.
- >"Only if you aren't here to bug me."
- >"Come on, Lisa, you know I left behind those 'bugging my sister' days long ago.
- >Lisa looked up at Lincoln, whose shaggy white hair and scruffy face still took her breath away.
- >Lincoln smiled softly at her.
- >"You like the song? I requested it myself."
- >"Just tell me what you're here for, fraternal unit."
- >"I wanna go on a date with you. That's not too hard, right?"
- >Lincoln's forwardness gave pause to Lisa.
- >This one had ulterior motives, but not a single one of them made sense to her.
- >So she decided to humor him.
- >"Go ahead and call this a date, if you want."
- >"Good. I'll pay for the drinks then."
- >Lisa thought that might have been what he wanted.
- >A waiter dropped off a single glass of chianti for Lincoln and the two sat in silence.
- >"How's UCLA treating you?"
- >"Same as MIT and Yale and Penn State and U of C. So many students, so little time."
- >Lisa stirred her virgin martini silently.
- >"How was San Diego?"
- >Some dude threw a cup of vomit on me, so no real changes."
- >Lincoln chugged the glass of wine.
- >"Bossman Estevez's been on me about this latest run of Ultra Lord. 'His Ultra Thrusters are two and a half millimeters too long! Go tell Chang to fix it!'"
- >"Sounds like you when Leni gave you that jacket."
- >"Hey, that was different! Ace Savvy's logo didn't look like that!"
- >The two laughed, and reminisced together about days long past.
- >In time, the two found themselves outside the club together.
- >"I gotta call a Slider. I'm too drunk to drive."
- >"Lincoln, you don't own a car."
- >"All the more reason to."
- >Lisa looked up at her big brother, and realized she was clinging onto his arm.
- >"Why don't you stay the night, Lincoln? I don't have anything happening until next wednesday..."
- >"Sorry, can't. Got a meeting out in Palos Verdes tomorrow morning and then a two-day conference down in Orange County."
- >Lisa looked dejected.
- >"But I'm free on monday. Maybe I'll give you a visit. Just a short one, though."
- >"I'll be waiting for you, then."
- >"Don't hold your breath."
- >The two locked lips for a moment, before the Slider pulled up to the curb and chirped for Lincoln to get in.
- >"Alright, Lisa, I gotta go. See you next week, I promise!"
- >And Lisa was alone again, wishing that he could have stirred her virgin martini.
- >"Goodbye... big brother."
