  1. If you dislike chat leaders, what would raise your opinion of them? If you like them, what would maintain your opinion of them?96 responses
  2. I do not have any problems with chat leaders.
  3. Chat leaders are fine, people are free to input whatever they want on the stream, including following others if it is optimal.
  4. they are cool, keep doing the same thing.
  5. i dont like chat leaders, chat should be allowed to input freely without one person planning things for us and losing sleep to make demo chains and research about a run we just want to have fun in. chat leaders like faith causes us to have too much progress and finish the run too fast.
  6. Chat leaders are fine as they tend to listen to ideas from other viewers and have great knowledge on the games.
  7. Carry on modding the chat like they have been
  8. I don't mind chat leaders. I wish people would stop being toxic about chat leaders existing. Not everybody is just going to do their own thing, and people should be allowed to agree with other people without others freaking out about it and labelling them 'sheep' just because they trust somebody.
  9. CHat leaders are necessary, there isn't enough people to go against them but I think they give a good balance of letting people play the run and helping balance out the team towards the end.
  10. I don't dislike chat leaders but them allowing more input from the rest of the chat would hopefully make them be viewed in a more positive light, a perfect example of a chat leader done poorly was hele- I mean uh Jayare... during LUL tra sidegame, in which it felt like a dictatorship rather than a game.
  11. I'm fine with chat leaders as long as it doesn't get to the point where they are forcing a certain pokemon into the team and as long as they're still open to do things on the side of the plot.
  12. Neutral, if people like to follow them, you can't blame the leaders for that.
  13. I like knowing some people know what they are doing and we try to follow them, but we shouldnt be angry over someone else trying to do what they want.
  14. The well-known ones I like as people - and chat leaders can help people get out of tight spots - but once a chat leader has decided on a course of action you're branded as a troll for trying to do your own thing.
  15. They plan how will the run be as soon as its announced. Theres no improvisation possible, runs are scripted by them, and we all have to follow "the plan". They say they ask chat what do they want to do as if they aproval was needed to do any step. When they are executing their plan they justify it saying its what chat wants, but its just what someone in chat proposed and chat leaders felt like aproving it, if theres a part of the chat that wants to do something else and they dont want it, its not the plan. They use their influence to convince people to want to do a certain thing, instead of users thinking by themselves and doing what they feel, with the right of being wrong. Right now if you are not as optimal as possible, you are trolling, theres no room for crazy and unexpected events.
  16. Chat leaders not to stop dictating what we do and just offer suggestions. Often they decide the team which is unfair and they make us spend ages on grinding whilst they sleep.
  17. Chat leaders would be fine with less democracy and more viewers. Right now they are free to do what ever they want, i.e. quad squad.
  18. Continue to act in what they feel is in the best interest of the chat.
  19. I don't really pay much attention to chat leaders.
  20. open discussions more often that do not exclude outsiders
  21. I dislike them if they push their own agenda. I'd have a better opinion of them if they were impartial to things.
  22. I generally don't mind them. Sometimes they may lead the wrong way, but isn't that part of the adventure?
  23. BloodTrail People should be free to do participate however they want and that includes trying to lead the chat, people are free to ignore then anyway.
  24. My opinion of chat leaders would be raised if they took their time machine and stepped back from Emerald onwards. Now it's definitely too late and pointless. They should have given less orders, shouldn't have forced their way on the stream, shouldn't have used emotes next to their name. But then they wouldn't be chat leaders, right ? I respect their time/energy investment in the stream but they really should get a job now.
  25. Nothing. Having a Chat Leader who's ultra-focused on playing optimally is actually why I've stopped doing runs. Runs these days are fairly predictable and leave little room for chaos or failure, which should be the entire point. Kappa
  26. chat leaders are fine
  27. Chat leaders are fine; they’re just overall helpful to everyone playing the runs.
  28. Remove their influence during democracy by placing the chat in emote-only mode and input using whispers only
  29. They're fine. As long as they don't accuse people of trolling if they don't like them.
  30. I really like FaithfulForce and don't have much experience with the other leaders. I think Faith is a great chat leader because he takes everyone's opinion into consideration and is always willing to discuss a suggested action. He is levelheaded, respectful, and knows how to get things done.
  31. Chat leaders don't hold as much power as they used to. It seems that users that have been involved since the very beginning are the most respected.
  32. I think the biggest problem with them right now is that not enough people want to lead us as much as possible - it would look much better if one person told us what to do for 2-4 hours and then switch with someone esle than seeing Faith lead us from morning to midnight UTC+2, especially that he seems to don't sleep (which he sometimes admits in chat), which worries me a little on the health level, with z33k33 dropping in for his own many hours shifts too (which are made worse because IIRC faith doesn't stop when zeek comes in and vice versa). And the best thing would possible be to give us some free hand in doing things instead saying us things like don't catch Pokemon until this or that moment because we need X type to do Y (unless it happens everytime I don't sleep Kappa )
  33. I like them i don't think i'd dislike them unless they demo 1/3rd of the day next run.
  34. I like FaithfulForce.
  35. i like them as they help get chat back up to speed on events and strategy options in case we have a difficult team combination to work with
  36. I like some of them but what would raise my opinion of them is to stop shoving stuff down out throats. It's TPP and should always be chats overall choice, not always about whats optimal. Also some tend to be way too keen on progression a lot of the time.
  37. Chat leaders are like democracy. Let people try to figure something out on their own before relying on something more consistent.
  38. They good
  39. Chat leaders are fine. They're typically cool people.
  40. "Chat leaders" currently rise and command under the influence of attention of using a specific chosen emote, which if done enough times, people will start to trust every command they give so they can have others play in "their" style rather than expressing freedom to let everyone think out other ways to deal with the current situation.
  41.
  42. This can especially lead to frustrating consequenses where the "chat leader" actually was wrong with his strategy, having wasted the whole streams time by manipulating their followers (think, horde of sheeps/cult /faction maybe?).
  43.
  44. But to get right on point; There should be no such thing as "chat leaders" trying to accomplish things in their own kind of vision by using attention grabbing emotes so people can instantly identify their leader over anybody else trying to suggest ideas regarding where everyone should head forwards to.
  45. I like them but feel it would be better if leadership took a less prominent role in general except when requested/needed to do so and remained responsive to the current aims of chat generally rather than assuming progress in a particular direction. The best chat leaders are those that spend some time playing alongside other users communicating with them prior to "taking the reins"
  46. I think the chat leaders are nice people! I like them, they help in tough situations during the run
  47. As long as they continue to produce positive results, then I don't mind them at all.
  48. They're fine, as they're informative. People can listen to them if they want.
  49. chat leaders are cool, we can't really change that anyways?
  50. Stop controlling every part of the game, only when chat really needs/wants them. People like M4 need to let players play the game, not follow every single command.
  51. Things like not giving too much of the game away. Even if it's a game like Original Red, too much dictation can be annoying.
  52. Official on screen names of them...voting for current leaders?
  53. z33k and faith tend to try to make as many people happy as possible and go with the majority wish, which i think is nice. m4 can be a little strong about what they think is right, but i think they usually try to be fair to everyone. idk, as an inputter i like chat leaders because they make my job easier. they're generally pretty likable and fair people and i appreciate all the work they do to help us. i think faith should rest more though.
  54. They should guide us when we don't know what to do.
  55. They shouldn't feel the need to be online for unhealthy amounts of hours in a row and trust chat more.
  56. Chat leaders are usually helpful and cool. A few can be rude sometimes, though.
  57. A lot of people give chat leaders flack, but I really give props to them. They're some really awesome guys when you get to know them, and you see for yourself that leading the majority can be stressful, and pressuring. I only had to face this during Anni.Red, Touhoumon X Moemon, and in some cases, small portions of runs such as Anni.Crystal, and XD Gale Of Darkness. It's pretty crazy and to help out the chat to such an extent is an amazing thing to see. Are they really the pin saying they're "killers of TPP"? No. I believe the majority did that for themselves for giving them the trust and influence they have today. Same can be said in the community with certain lore creators, and amazing artist. We just do what we can to help out and enjoy ourselves, and there's gonna be people against it along the way. Nothing we can really do. Whether you love or despise them, you HAVE to give them the props they deserve at least.
  58. I dislike chat leaders. I'm OK if they signal the direction to input to reach the next town and stuff like that and feel as though they should limit themselves to doing just that such as when FaithfulForce led the chat through the dark cave in Crystal. I am against the fact that they pick and choose which plans to push to chat to execute such as changing party members or move sets based off of their own judgment for what is good for the stream. Even though sometimes their argument stands as "simply promoting what the majority wanted", this is a weak argument as most people inputting commands into TPP are not vocal about their intentions. Therefore, the chat leaders are often listening to a vocal minority believing that they are the majority. I feel as though they should leave the hivemind be to make and execute their own decisions in the chaotic spirit of TPP.
  59. I'm fine with them as is, it's just a natural result of the game.
  60. The issue of chat leaders has been debated and ended 3 years ago (https://redd.it/23e0uu). As such, I'm happy with the way it is, and I like the chat leaders.
  61. Eh, they're friendly enough! We can always disobey if we don't like them.
  62. I used to dislike myself when i was depressed, but my therapy has been helping a lot with that.
  63. Chat leaders should not use their power to make negative opinions of others
  64. who cares about chat leaders
  65. I dislike the idea that chat leaders exist, and that people who input something they want to input are sometimes shunned by the community or insulted. The entire idea is that we are all playing one game. It is ridiculous, and a terrible idea. That is fun.
  66. Don't like forced chat leaders, would want it to happen naturally
  67. who ?
  68. I don't dislike them, I dislike chat being unable to do anything without them. But that's human nature and nothing can be changed so n/c.
  69. I like chat leaders overall. I like chat leaders when they are humble yet knowledgeable, and when they take the chat's opinions into account whenever possible. However there are times when they are over-dominating, usually when the inputter count is low or when viewers have no idea what is going on.
  70. They tend to lead with a single emote that works as their signature to show people who they are. i want this reduced somewhat.
  71. They need to ask chat more frequently, not just decide for themselves what to do. Sometimes chat listens too much to well-known chat leaders opinions.
  72. Just continue leading to the next/current objective
  73. i dislike them because they tell chat exactly what to do and how to do it. they are essentially holding chat's hand and guiding them through. this shortens runs significantly and prevents us from enjoying the chaos and confusion of earlier runs. in addition, chat leaders work with devs behind-the-scenes so they may be biased toward some secret information that their actions will lead us to. i do not enjoy this at all.
  74. I know that they are more necessary now with our numbers but the old random user chaos will be always missed
  75. Chat leaders are only as strong as the people who follow them. That's all I'll say. It's interesting how we have times when there are "leaders" that naturally are made but I don't think anyone should be obligated to blindly follow them.
  76. Chat leaders are inevitable whether I like them or not.
  77. I don't know if anything can really be done about them. They will exist no matter what because you can't enforce it--people will always try to direct chat to do something specific whether it's FaithfulForce or randomdudeman12. And people will follow them because they want to complete the game. The problem is that people idolize them too much and rely on them too much--if a chat leader isn't present then the stream will often get chaotic, though that might not be accurate nowadays.
  78. Chat leaders overall aren't bad, but "chat leaders" that dictate orders and go on long rants on why their way is the best and only way when anyone DARES disagree with them suck.
  79. They have a little bit too much control right now. It's nice to know what's going on, but it can occasionally remove some of the fun unpredictability. Also the fact that, as far as I know, Faith has absolute control over where democracy is is a bit strange to me.
  80. Eh, they're alright, but things used to be better in '14.
  81. I don't dislike chat leaders. However at the current moment I feel as though the actions of individual players that do not align with the goals of chat leaders are too often received negatively by other players
  82. they're really nice people, i personally support them
  83. Chat leaders are not really "official" leaders, just people that are good at the game. U don't have to follow him/her.
  84. It's nice to have familiar names that are trustworthy. Sometimes when I have a quick check at the stream and have no idea what's going on but want to help, the chat leaders are usually posting directions which is a great help.
  85. They're cool and all. Most of them are pretty OG fans who know what they're doing, so I suppose the best thing is to be more transparent.
  86. Shouldn't be any chat leaders who dictate what happens, should be total chaos, more fun.
  87. Less railroading. Jfc
  88. Chat leaders are good but seem to have big egos because of being called chat leaders
  89. I have never had a problem with chat leaders. I admire their dedication.
  90. Chat leaders should lead towards fun, and not optamize unless necessary.
  91. I find chat leaders useful. My opinion would be maintained as long as they remain generally helpful, and don't get involved in drama much.
  92. (Leader Name) kills the run SwiftRage Kappa
  93. Chat 'leading' is inevitable with such few people on stream, that you can read people's messages in chat, as opposed to the original run where you could barely get a message to stay on screen for a second. The 'issue', if one exists, is not that chat leaders exist (that is inevitable), it is that people are so willing to follow them and sometimes unwilling to go ahead and do whatever without the guidance of a chat leader, that sometimes potential progress stalled, or people going against the personal opinion of chat leaders are derided in chat. Also, notable chat leaders' opinions often carry extra weight, especially regarding the nature of the stream, the role of democracy, which optimisations should be made, if any, amongst other things. These aren't the 'fault' of people who become known as chat leaders, but there is little that can be done to curb people's willingness to follow.
  94. Just keep doing what you're doing
  95. I believe that the idea of there being a "Chat Leader" is a bit inaccurate. There will always be someone who has a better understanding of the game and game systems than others and if some people just want to progress in the game they will naturally look for the person with the most knowledge. No one picked them to lead they were just the best person for the job at the time. Overall, I think that influential player do not harm the community, in fact I think they create a sense of consistency between runs and it's nice being able to see the develpoment of skills everyone has gained
  96. I don't mind them. I prefer when they are unnecessary for battling, but in some games, difficulty makes it necessary. I miss some of the more involved fights chat used to have over whether to follow them or not, and having those fights sometimes end with the people pushing in the opposite direction winning, but I think that took the larger chat size to make happen.
  97. Problem with chat leaders is i can't be one cuz i'm a laggy scrub who only uses the stream half the time
  98. I like them? But wish they were more actuve during pbr
  99. I was once a chat leader. They are good guys, helping the community to use their power in the right direction. I have no problems with them
  100. I like the idea of using chat leaders to point us where our current goal (as a stream) is, but I don't think they should abuse that power for their own purposes
  101. they controll too much of the stream
