  1. Me: I didn't like it
  2.
  3. Friend: Rick and Morty?
  4. Are you crazy
  5. That episode was hilarious
  6.
  7. Me: Okay I guess I'm crazy
  8.
  9. Friend: "there's no such thing as gaslighting. You made it up it was fucking crazy"
  10. Also the end credits scene xP
  11. The part where the holograms were protesting
  12. The part where they were eating the principal
  13.
  14. Me:
  15. > "there's no such thing as gaslighting. You made it up it was fucking stupid"
  16. I hated this line. Because that's we need, more dialogue that reduces real and dangerous concepts into buzzwords that get taken down
  17. > The part where they were eating the principal
  18. This was gross
  19.
  20. Friend:
  21. > I hated this line. Because that's we need, more dialogue that reduces real and dangerous concepts into buzzwords that get taken down
  22. Umm it was making fun of people who umm it was making fun of toxic men who don't like when people use the word gas lighting
  23.
  24. Me: No it wasn't
  25. That's your interpretation
  26.
  27. Friend: Umm it was pretty obvious
  28.
  29. [CONTEXT: a male and female anchor were reporting on Morty killing a bunch of people (yes typical gross violence); the male anchor said "up next: this story"; the female anchor added "but first: this story"; the male anchor accused her of always "doing this" i.e. undermining him; the female anchor denied it and accused him of gaslighting her; the male anchor said gasligthing doesn't exist and she's fucking crazy; end of scene].
  30.
  31. Me: No. It wasn't
  32.
  33. Friend: The joke is he gas lit her
  34.
  35. Me: You don't understand gaslighting
  36. He probably did but we had no context of their history
  37. So, no evidence to support it
  38. And he got the final line
  39. And said gaslighting is a made up term
  40.
  41. Friend: He said you don't know what it is you're crazy
  42. Meaning he was gaslighting her
  43. yes
  44. that's gaslighting
  45.
  46. Me: Ehhhh kinda? But not exactly
  47. Like, technically, yes, he was denying reality to her. But that's not really the best example of gaslighting. And he still got the last word
  48. So people can just as easily come away with this episode feeling validated because their favorite cartoon just bashed liberals
  49.
  50. Friend: no it was bashing liberal bashers
  51.
  52. Me: No that's just your interpretation. That the male anchor was the bad one
  53.
  54. Friend: no i think i twas pretty obvious
  55.
  56. Me: Okay if you're gonna be annoying
  57. Goodbye
  58.
  59. ~LATER~
  60. Friend: so what was your interpretation?
  61. they were just having a woman be bullied cuz it's funny?
  62.
  63. Me: I think it was meant to be ironic
  64. But it could be interpreted either way and that's what I don't like
  65. They've been guilty of this for years
  66.
  67. Friend: i get what you mean and we've had this debate but i always prefered satire over blatant commentary
  68. and it kinda sucks you arne't allowde to be subtle with your shade now
  69.
  70. Me: *yawn*
  71.
  72. Friend: ?
  73.
  74. Me: I don't empathize with that sentiment
  75. You have a platform it comes with responsibility. That's life
  76.
  77. Friend: so there's no room for satire?
  78.
  79. Me: That's not what I said and I'm tired of this conversation
