  1. I have grown tired of all the people sticking to the idea of accusing AREA35, the makers of Tiny Metal, of embezzling over a million dollars from the Kickstarter for Project Phoenix to make an attempt at a Spiritual Successor, Tiny Metal itself. Could the accusations be true? It's possible, but the developers' general demeanor do not suggest they could be, and even if they were, even if I'd actually be being hit by the Bitch In Sheep's Clothing trope despite being Genre Savvy against that problem, for the umpteenth time at that, the accusations are thrown about without evidence, and all they show is how much the sort of evil you would see on Chucklefish, GameFAQs, and reddit, among no shortage of other gaming communities, is allowed to rampage.
  2.
  3. I may not know the truth behind the journalism's claims--and yes, that's another point against the accusations: yellow journalism at its finest. What I do know is that the people who throw about these accusations don't give a damn about any argument the other side could possibly have. If they did, they would provide more constructive counterarguments than just calling AREA35 scammers on unproven allegations.

  5. I outlined here that making a game is hard, that Tiny Metal also had to worry about Wargroove killing sales with unwelcome competition if it didn't release first, that there are too many "git gud" bullies out there, and that there should be hope for the future.
  6.
  7. That's my point about these accusations: they ignore how AREA35 still provided a game for us to enjoy. That quality control is hit-or-miss is still mitigated by AREA35 being generally backwater, and it's STILL better than the arrogance you see from the Wargroove developers thinking their ideas of complexity for its own sake, with no regard to rewarding the concept of risk, are so perfect when it's clear they're anything but, and they would gladly censor objections to that idiocy. Yet people will support Chucklefish because apparently AREA35 is the one who is corrupt. Excuse me?
  8.
  9. That sort of biased garbage is what taints gaming communities in general. Think about it: if AREA35 IS innocent, making sure people don't buy Tiny Metal just because of a scandal is what would REALLY get in the way of Project Phoenix's fruition. I'm not going to pretend I myself am interested in Project Phoenix where I stand, but enough people have proven they are. It is absolutely atrocious for the accusers to not try to listen because they are simply so adverse to change. I have dealt with that idiocy already. It's called the general mentality of the Advance Wars communities, who screeched for the blood of anybody who dared to suggest a Sniper or Mortar soldier unit. Even though Tiny Metal has the former with hope of balance even if it'd be by their standards of gameplay, and Battalion Wars has Mortar Veterans who get balanced well, by their attack power being mediocre at that. But of course, the Advance Wars communities, with the Advance Wars subreddit at the worst of it, will gladly shun creativity in the name of preserving their precious infantry walls and unit bloat that gets in the way of concepts such as flanking. Remember Chess being riddled with Pawns and general pieces in the lategame phase? I certainly do! Just let me find an example that totally wouldn't be a Deliberately Bad Example to make my point!
  10.
  11. Problems like these arbitrary accusations that want to bring down whatever games they want through shallow thought processes affect me too, because I'd want to make my own sort of Spiritual Successor to Battalion Wars, something that people like the members of the Advance Wars subreddit want to get in the way of in the interest of the short term, with absolutely no regard to the long term. The accusers are barely any better--at least they don't mock lust-induced murder victims with Christmas song renditions, but how much is that saying to begin with? They're still hellbent on sating their own egos that they don't want to admit they could be wrong.
  12.
  13. To the people who are listening, here's what I would have involved in my game:
  14. *3 controller modes, where the player would have themselves set to one at a time but can switch at any time (keeping in mind I'd be currently assuming usage of the GameCube controller, of course). One of the controller modes would be Battalion Wars-style gameplay with modifications, while the other two would have more focus on the dueling. I would naturally make sure that the player would only need mastery of one controller mode to get by well enough on a moderate difficulty level.
  15. *Adjustable difficulty levels, and not just simple easiest to hardest. The player could get to choose what to work with on lower difficulties, such as mid-level bookmarking, focused power boosts, and permadeath buffering ability. Enabling them, however, would come at a cost of at least some of the power the player otherwise wouldn't have on the hardest difficulty. For those keeping track of the math, yes, the hardest difficulty wouldn't allow these options at all, not even for a case of That One Level, though I would definitely playtest the hardest difficulty anyway to make sure the levels are well-designed while still challenging and rewarding more technical gameplay.
  16. *A Story Mode where the levels have to played in order for a given save file (like in Fire Emblem or the first 3 Advance Wars games); and a Review Mode where any available level (which would be made available by given conditions including reaching it without lost units, possibly more) could be played individually.
  17. *A ranking system on each level used to determine the player's performance, similar to Advance Wars' in basic design, but with less leniency and guaranteed different rules. All ranking areas would also be affected by difficulty, with easier difficulties causing all ranking areas to cap at lower values and have stronger penalties as well. Additionally, a player's progress through Story Mode would also require high enough average ranking at certain points, and the requirement will get higher later on. Failure to meet the requirement will meet the requirement will result in a bad ending for the file. I obviously would want to avoid being obnoxious about it, but I'd also would want good endings partially affected by ranking, with the Golden Ending keeping its absolutely stringent requirements I'd have in mind for it, not least because of the key points of the Golden Ending itself.
  18.
  19. I have more tools of the trade in mind for the game too, but I'm keeping those in reserve so that I don't have people just copy my ideas or pull some potential Accentuate The Negative idiocy like what the accusers do. Unfortunately, that's exactly what the likes of the Advance Wars subreddit's membership would do, because people like that just want to preserve the status quo even when it proves completely flawed. They have even refused to attempt to provide counterarguments to things like what I posted here:

  21. Best part? They're determined to claim I'm an amateur, because clearly Rivals AC is so easy that everybody who complains about it to the point where it's *INFAMOUS* for difficulty while being in the same series as Bissum Desert in Game Boy Wars 3 (http://gbwn.main.jp/Campaign36_GBW3.htm) is just whining. Well, what do I expect when they claim they've been trying to get rid of the troll for years but I couldn't seem to get the hint, even though they clearly celebrate the real trolls and even go as far as to claim that literally everything that comes out of my mouth is the most obnoxious thing in the AW communities, easily being more obnoxious than the brand of material you come to expect from a guy who would bash on Shattered Throne just for having sea units.
  22.
  23. People like that are intentionally obstructive to game design, and the accusers want to be no different, instead going for trying to celebrate talent at any cost even when it comes at a disregard to heart. Just because The Magical Turnabout in Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice got heavyhanded enough with its bonus evidence part (honestly, I would have presented Stage Lift #2 instead of the Gramarye Notebook if I hadn't been Functional Genre Savvy) doesn't mean it doesn't have valid points all around, about how having a heart is actually a part of real talent, not antithetical to it. People like the accusers want games to be loud, flashy, and trashy, when good talent are loud and flashy on their own, and all the likes of the accusers and the Advance Wars subreddit add is the trash. In the process of doing this nonsense, game design suffers because repetition, rather than creativity, keeps being rewarded by the consumer.
  24.
  25. In short, my message to the accusers is to stop with the false accusations, because they are nothing but deliberate obstruction interested in leaving NOBODY happy.
