  2. Joker Smoker - Today at 11:40 AM
  3. I have a rhetorical question
  4. ironsniper1 - Today at 11:40 AM
  5. whats that?
  6. Joker Smoker - Today at 11:40 AM
  7. As I know we are not able to use swearing on DJO
  8. but
  9. what about fictitious swearing like in Battlestar Galactica?
  10. IGF_Marsuveesblack - Today at 11:44 AM
  11. Lmao
  12. Joker Smoker - Today at 11:44 AM
  13. just asking:41859763019369678822:
  14. ThunderMax - Today at 11:45 AM
  15. lol, in a day or two I'll modify the SoP for D-Sec and we'll allow swear words... I got you comrad.
  16. I know the urge to say the f word is strong..
  17. Joker Smoker - Today at 11:46 AM
  18. And no Thunder, your answer will be not considered coz you're a fra... a toaster, period!
  19. ironsniper1 - Today at 11:46 AM
  20. allow swear words for what?
  21. Joker Smoker - Today at 11:47 AM
  22. but technically words from BSG is not a swearing words in real life, it can't be used as a swearing in real life even if it sound similar. Isn't? :41859763019369678822:
  23. This capitalist writing a god damn novel. I just asking! Stop! PLS STAHP!
  24. ThunderMax - Today at 11:52 AM
  25. DJO HC and Security have agreed that we want to modify D-Sec's policies. While D-Sec wil continue to patrol all forums for things like racism, sexual harrassment, etc. (things that no one in this community wants), we will allow swearing rules to be dictated by the club, rather than DJO. If a club wants to disallow the F word, a deputy will be assigned to your club and help you enforce that. I'd also like to see D-Sec offer their services to patrol club Discords aswell.
  26.
  27. The swear filter toggles have been fixed by engineering, and are currently working. In the coming days I'll make a post making this official.
  28. ironsniper1 - Today at 11:53 AM
  29. i dont think thats a good idea
  30. Joker Smoker - Today at 11:53 AM
  31. I want to kill you
  32. ThunderMax - Today at 11:54 AM
  33. What's your reasoning for feeling that way, iron?(edited)
  34. Joker Smoker - Today at 11:54 AM
  35. I asked a simple question, you've gave me a freakin' novel and I still haven't get answer!
  36. ironsniper1 - Today at 11:55 AM
  37. the whole site needs to be swear free as it always has been, djo is supposed to be family friendly and we do sometimes get younger members in the clubs and making this rule change will in my mind make djo not so family friendly
  38. this is more something you should bring up with others in DJO HC and club commanders
  39. instead of going about it alone
  40. also a rule like that can and will be abused
  41. Joker Smoker - Today at 11:57 AM
  42. Iron gonna say that some mad people like me gonna abuse this rule very hard and use F word after every word instead of a comma, a space, a period, a colon etc. It will be a madness :)
  43. ironsniper1 - Today at 11:58 AM
  44. exactly
  45. the rules need to stay as they are now
  46. ThunderMax - Today at 11:59 AM
  47. But the site isn't swear free...we've allowed "shit", "ass", and "damn", already. If a club wants to continue the tradition of enforcing a modified PG-13 filter, then D-Sec will assist them with that. We are simply giving the clubs a little bit more freedom to decide for themselves. My understaning is DJO will still use the swear filter on it's own comlinks.
  48.
  49. There's also going to be clear guidelines in place for excessive use. Spamming the F word, is spamming.(edited)
  50. ironsniper1 - Today at 11:59 AM
  51. well i dont think any swearing in djo is a good idea
  52. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:00 PM
  53. thats how i remember it being and in my opinion thats how it needs to be and needs to stay
  54. Joker Smoker - Today at 12:00 PM
  55. "Freedom". I need to resist.
  56. I feel like I wanted to light a cigarette but accidentally burn out the TNT fuse
  57. ThunderMax - Today at 12:03 PM
  58. Also iron, this is not a "lone" decision. We've mentioned the new swearing rules in the newly formed council channel, and everyone so far seems to be in favor of giving the clubs more power. HC deliberated for quite a while on this decision.
  59. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:03 PM
  60. i wasnt there
  61. im sorry i am the minority
  62. but i dont agree with it at all
  63. Joker Smoker - Today at 12:04 PM
  64. well if you guys will have some kind of mortal kombat there coz of that then remember its not my fault :41859763019369678822:
  65. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:05 PM
  66. i dont want to click on a post and see a bunch of swear words or something if i want that i will talk in discord voice
  67. ThunderMax - Today at 12:05 PM
  68. Iron, part of the new system is YOU, a member, can simply activate your swear filter.
  69. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:05 PM
  70. discord is one thing to have that type of stuff but i dont think it should be on the site that people can read
  71. thats stupid
  72. ThunderMax - Today at 12:05 PM
  73. It's both a user or club togglable option.
  74. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:06 PM
  75. it should be enabled site wide like it used to be
  76. i am going to stop here
  77. everyone is going to shit on the site and its going to go bad
  78. imo djo is going down hill with rule changes like that and its only going to get worse
  79. i am done
  80. Joker Smoker - Today at 12:08 PM
  81. Well, as a guy that using swearing words even more than any others I should agree with Iron. Swearing is kinda... intimate thing that you better keep for TS room or private chats :)
  82. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:10 PM
  83. exactly its not a place to be on the comlinks where EVERYONE including younger members can see
  84. Joker Smoker - Today at 12:10 PM
  85. btw younglings know even more swearing than we do, but still
  86. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:11 PM
  87. true
  88. but
  89. i have been a member of djo for 15 years and its always been no swearing of any kind on the comlinks because of younger members and because djo is supposed to be family friendly
  90. if you start letting people use swear words on the comlinks it will get abused and djo is no longer for younger members
  91. ThunderMax - Today at 12:14 PM
  92. Again, if a club wants to continue the way it currently is, then D-Sec will support the club and even offer more services then it did previously. The swear filters were deliberatley broken by a previous administration. DJO moving forward intends to rebrand itself with a fresh new look, new services, new departments, and more autonomy for clubs.
  93. We want to make ourselves more appealing to new clubs, and this has been indicated to be one of the many reason why some clubs won't join us.
  94. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:15 PM
  95. cause of swearing
  96. ThunderMax - Today at 12:15 PM
  97. I feel in some ways the same as you do iron, but I'm not going to push my belief of everyone else.(edited)
  98. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:15 PM
  99. thats the most retarded thing i have ever heard
  100. oh
  101. we dont want to make a new club cause we cant swear
  102. if thats a reason keeping new clubs from being made
  103. then we dont need them
  104. sorry to say it
  105. but its true
  106. Joker Smoker - Today at 12:16 PM
  107. well, it seems like I've really set fire on a wick. Time to get out if here!
  108. ThunderMax - Today at 12:17 PM
  109. Well, there's nothing wrong with giving clubs more autonomy, and I can assure you if DJO HC and the soon to be formed council sees a problem, we'll work together to address it.(edited)
  110. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:18 PM
  111. theres giving clubs more autonomy and djo going downhill in a bad way and i dont know if i will be around to see it
  112. ThunderMax - Today at 12:19 PM
  113. well, that will be a shame, since there are many good things in store for DJO in the comnig months. Hopefully you'll stick around to see it. Gotta go for now, lunch time!
  114. papaBeaR - Today at 12:20 PM
  115. I agree with the old family friendly system, I swear like a sailor in real world but the old rules hold some sense of decorum
  116. Joker Smoker - Today at 12:20 PM
  117. enjoy yar hardees dude
  118. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:20 PM
  119. i agree with you papa but its been overruled and i just know this rule will end badly
  120. papaBeaR - Today at 12:21 PM
  121. it will end with some parents of younger menbers seeing some posts and going off on one
  122. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:21 PM
  123. yup
  124. ThunderMax - Today at 12:25 PM
  125. I encourage other people to engage in this discussion. Again, the new administration in DJO wants what the majority of the community wants at the end of the day.
  126. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:26 PM
  127. well that would mean the majority has overruled the minority cause there will be more people who want to be able to swear than those who think the site should stay family friendly
  128. EpyonComet - Today at 12:27 PM
  129. I think the filter is fine as long as posting something that gets filtered isn’t held against anyone.
  130. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:27 PM
  131. well thats the point of the filter
  132. it has been that way since i joined
  133. if you sweared you got a warning
  134. Joker Smoker - Today at 12:28 PM
  135. I dont want to be a douchebag but when I see "majority" I already dont like it. Minority I dont like too.
  136. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:28 PM
  137. well
  138. he said the swearing thing is why no one wants to make new clubs
  139. if thats the case
  140. then the majority has won
  141. EpyonComet - Today at 12:29 PM
  142. I don’t believe that for a second, quite frankly.
  143. That that’s gonna keep someone from making a club.
  144. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:29 PM
  145. scroll up
  146. EpyonComet - Today at 12:30 PM
  147. I believe it has been said, that doesn’t make it true.
  148. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:30 PM
  149. ThunderMax - Today at 12:14 PM
  151. We want to make ourselves more appealing to new clubs, and this has been indicated to be one of the many reason why some clubs won't join us.
  152. We want to make ourselves more appealing to new clubs, and this has been indicated to be one of the many reason why some clubs won't join us.
  153. i stick by my statement
  154. if thats the reason we dont need them
  155. sorry not sorry
  156. papaBeaR - Today at 12:30 PM
  157. Well Iron looks like we are old farts, time to curl up and shut :stuck_out_tongue:
  158. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:31 PM
  159. pretty much
  160. Joker Smoker - Today at 12:32 PM
  161. nah, I agree with papa, I swear like a sailor too, but dont really like the idea of let the shit go out. Just coz this YOUNGER people that Iron talking about will use it even more than sailors
  162. EpyonComet - Today at 12:33 PM
  163. I don’t care about it for the reason of younger users, but I agree with the point that was raised about decorum.
  164. ThunderMax - Today at 12:33 PM
  165. It's not a primary reason, but it's been brought up as a reason once or twice. I said it was one of a collective amount of reasons. We're simply going down the list trying to find solutions to each problems to make DJO more appealing and help the community grow.
  166. EpyonComet - Today at 12:33 PM
  167. It helps the group feel more mature than just some internet forum.
  168. ironsniper1 - Today at 12:36 PM
  169. i am also going to end it here, i have been a member of djo for 15 years (i know annoying) and i have seen many bad ideas but imo this is the worst and its only going to end badly and with that i am done with this convo
  170. Pokebub - Today at 1:05 PM
  171. I honestly don't see a problem with this. Most clubs/communities use cursing as part of their everyday language. If you were to take that ability away, they'll certainly try to take action and deny the change. I think this is perfect for those clubs. I mean why bother censoring words the entire internet uses on a daily basis?
  172.
  173. If it really offends users too much or if they're just restricted by gaurdians/parents, then why not just implement a censor feature that can be turned on when registering?
  174. Joker Smoker - Today at 1:06 PM
  175. All Of This Has Happened Before And Will Happen Again (c)
  176. IGF_Marsuveesblack - Today at 1:19 PM
  177. If the club wants to swear, let them. If they don't, let them.
  178. Allow them to make the choice of what market they want to appeal.
  179. ThunderMax - Today at 1:20 PM
  180. @Pokebub The swear filter will be turned on by default for each user I believe is the way we're going about it.(edited)
  181. If a user doesn't want to see swear words, they won't by default. The filter is able to be enforced by the club, or by the individual user.
  182. It's been this way for years. D-Sec does not change swear words that are caught by the filter. We are simply fixing the "toggles" that were intentionally broken years ago, and giving the clubs the ability to have "custom" security preferences. Essentially.
  183. The toggles worked years ago, but SolidSam ordered engineering to make them non functional.(edited)
  184. papaBeaR - Today at 1:25 PM
  185. As long as it dosnt give people the impression the org will accept abuse and a free for all sling contest. That would be my concern
  186. ThunderMax - Today at 1:25 PM
  187. No, as I said previously, we still have spamming rules.
  188. There is nothing constructive about saying the F word countless times, and we'll hide the post as we always have.
  189. If someone were to say shit shit shit 50 times, we would hide that post.
  190. and we have allowed the word shit for years now.
  191. papaBeaR - Today at 1:27 PM
  192. THe comms/forums are a differnt beast to what they were when I first joined anyway. Things ahve to evolve
  193. ThunderMax - Today at 1:27 PM
  194. Well, also keep in mind that DJO intends to keep the same rules it always has on it's own comms.(edited)
  195. We just want the potential new clubs to have a say in what THEY want. If they want to allow the F word in their comms, then that's their decision in my opinion.(edited)
  196. Joker Smoker - Today at 1:29 PM
  197. removing all "shit" from the article just in case
  198. ThunderMax - Today at 1:29 PM
  199. lol...
  200. I know we all don't see eye to eye, but let's all keep in mind that things don't have to be permanent, we are going through changes right now, and while we listen to everyone's opnion (thank you iron), we also have to pay attention to the overall opinion.
  201. The best thing to do right now, is talk in this channel, about things like the swear filter. Use the Discord to create discussion.
  202. 👍1
  203. [IGF]DOOM - Today at 1:31 PM
  204. Security exists for the sole purpose of making sure this works. If people want to swear fine. We'll monitor for the difference between cursing or direct derogatory statements that actually are meant to harm someone.(edited)
  205. ironsniper1 - Today at 1:33 PM
  206. again i dont agree with this rule change and will always say it will end badly
  207. papaBeaR - Today at 1:34 PM
  208. The main thing will be to make sure the community watches out for and reports potential trolls and abuse. Somthing I think we have a good record of I just fears this change may encourage a bad habit in some
  209. ironsniper1 - Today at 1:34 PM
  210. well
  211. my biggest thing is clubs dont want to join us cause they cant swear on the coms well if thats the only reason then find some place else
  212. that will only bring in much worse things
  213. papaBeaR - Today at 1:35 PM
  214. and it's always the few who ruin it for evryone else
  215. ironsniper1 - Today at 1:35 PM
  216. and djo will suffer for it
  217. IGF_Marsuveesblack - Today at 2:31 PM
  218. Allowing clubs to decide for themselves what is best in policing their own club makes sense. And if a potential club didnt form because they werent allowed to do that, that is a perfectly logical reason to not make one. If djo response is "We are better off without you because you will cause problems" DJO will literally never grow.(edited)
