Native American mythology is rich with legends and stories about foxes. For example, there is “The Hungry Fox and the Boastful Suitor,” an Iroquois story about a fox tricking a boastful man. Another legend is “The Wolf, the Fox, the Bobcat, and the Cougar,” which tells the story of a fox spirit aiding the Shoshone-Bannocks in defeating the warlike Little People. Other stories include “Iyash and Old Lady Fox,” a Severn Ojibwe legend about a hero earning the advice of a wise Fox-Woman, and “A Fox Tale,” a Menominee legend about a fox outsmarting a wolf.
