  1. ResilientGM IT IS THE 41ST MILLENNIUM...
  2. ResilientGM Sonder: "Open the transports! Check the bodies for Rillegh's remains!"
  3. ResilientGM Gilliam approaches Ferrus, "Sergeant, we'll need one of these cleared to transport the wounded... and what remains of Pvt. Volgin."
  4. Mathias_Ferrus "Be careful when checking. Might be trapped or something." The Sergeant advises as he watches what remains of his squad.
  5. Mathias_Ferrus then turns towards Gilliam. "Of course. Let's see which one has the most space."
  6. ResilientGM The autocannon-armed variant is opened up, revealing the carnage inside. Blood and gore drip from the ceiling, and down the walls.
  7. Willus drops down from his position to rejoin with his squad. "That was some damn fine shooting, eh herr sergeant?"
  8. ResilientGM Sonder: "Praise the Emperor... the son of a bitch brought his command vehicle. Quite a catch, sergeant!"
  9. Mathias_Ferrus tries to get inside the vehicle. Being wary of the gore as he looks around. "That was some precision work back there, Willus."
  10. ResilientGM Inside, there are complex vox arrays, and even sensors with displays. All the advanced technology of a proper command vehicle line the inside.
  11. Mathias_Ferrus grins. "Vorgen! I have a job for you! See if this gear works."
  12. ResilientGM One of the loyalists drags out one of the bodies... something looking more like a butcher's meat-filled canvas bag.
  13. ResilientGM "Sir, I think this is it!" he calls
  14. Willus grins and grips his long las tightly in his group, keeping his eyes peeled as his comrades investigate and loot the transports.
  15. ResilientGM Sonder kicks one of the sleeves to better reveal the markings on it.
  16. ResilientGM Sonder: "...quite a catch indeed..." he repeats to himself.
  17. Mathias_Ferrus approaches the remains. "Well... guess we need a closer look." He then kneels next to it in order to look for any identifying marks.
  18. ResilientGM Sonder: "Sergeant, this here," he kicks the remains with an ugly wet pop, "is your prey. Not many identifying marks to go by, but I guarantee this is him."
  19. Willus "Herr sergeant, it would be bad to linger here for too long. We are exposed, and a son of a gamewarden should never suffer the indignation of being overextended. Once you are finished kicking zat corpse, we should probably consider an exit plan..."
  20. ResilientGM Vorgen climbs into the vehicle, reluctantly, avoiding the more unnerving bits of gore still inside, while examining the equipment.
  21. ResilientGM He even removes his vox pack and leaves it outside before climbing back in.
  22. Mathias_Ferrus kicks the nearby Chimera. "These are our exit plan. The ones still working, anyway."
  23. ResilientGM "Sergeant Sonder! Munitions and medical supplies! By the Emperor's Grace, it'll keep us afloat through the month!"
  24. Mathias_Ferrus "But yes, let's get everything and everyone on board and then head out. And Sonder, what makes you so sure?"
  25. Willus "With all due respect, herr sergeant, galavanting around in giant smoking metal rectangles would advertise our position to every arcshloch heretic several miles 'round. I don't like it..."
  26. ResilientGM Sonder fixes his bayonet and sticks it into the remains, and lifts it up to your eye-level with a piece of skin attached. "The snake, Sergeant. He had the mark on his neck... there, you see?" he moves it closer to you.
  27. Mathias_Ferrus blinks and tries to keep his distance from the piece of meat. "Ah... I'll take that as evidence."
  28. Mathias_Ferrus "Not literally, of course."
  29. ResilientGM Sonder: "You're welcome to keep it, we won't mind."
  30. Mathias_Ferrus "And Willus, how do you sugest we carry all this, then?"
  31. Willus clicks his tongue. "We don't. Travelling light is ze way of the Jaeger, but I forget my place here. My apologies, herr sergeant."
  32. ResilientGM Sonder turns to his men. "Any food?"
  33. ResilientGM "I'm afraid not, sir," a reply informs.
  34. ResilientGM Sonder: "I expected not... still, this will put them back. The Snake was personally in charge of their logistics in this sector."
  35. ResilientGM Vorgin: "If only this cog-boy were alive he'd be able to help me with this..."
  36. ResilientGM Gilliam: "He is... just not in working condition. Can't do much for him."
  37. ResilientGM Vorgin: "No, no... I mean this one."
  38. ResilientGM Sonder: "Hmm?"
  39. ResilientGM Sonder climbs inside with Vorgin.
  40. ResilientGM Sonder: "I suppose that shouldn't be a surprise... they've been operating all manner of advanced machinery."
  41. ResilientGM Sure enough, the remains of a tech priest lie inside.
  42. Mathias_Ferrus thinks for a moment. "Sonder, how many supplies do you need?"
  43. Mathias_Ferrus then follows him inside the Chimera, taking a closer look at the techpriest.
  44. ResilientGM Sonder: "At first, it was just fanatics... we still stood a chance out here. Then, with the arrival of Lucius, they purged the local Adepts of the Mechanicus... and brought out the heavy equipment. We had nothing..."
  45. Willus "You have your faith in the God-Emperor. Ze greatest weapon of all."
  46. ResilientGM Gilliam checks on the status of the two wounded. As he approaches Gru he asks, "Cousins of yours?" and chuckles.
  47. Gru_Persay struggles to speak.
  48. Mathias_Ferrus starts moving supplies towards the working Chimeras.
  49. Gru_Persay "010100.... Sar.. Sergeant...."
  50. Willus quickly moves in to aid his commanding officer in his work, humming a folk tune whilst doing so.
  51. ResilientGM Gilliam: "Shit... Sergeant! Cog-boy's regaining consciousness!"'
  52. ResilientGM He takes a knee next to Gru, trying, almost in vain, to examine his condition.
  53. ResilientGM Gilliam: "Don't move... just take it easy."
  54. Gru_Persay speaks in bursts in random binary and words.
  55. Mathias_Ferrus rushes towards Gru once he had finished moving the crate he had in his hands. "Hey there, Cogboy. I know you guys like machines but boy, hugging a moving Chimera is a bit much."
  56. Gru_Persay "...01, My Axe... Message...0001010 Omnissiah."
  57. ResilientGM Gilliam leans over to his NCO, and whispers, "Listen, I don't know that I can do much more for him... I'm surprised he isn't dead yet."
  58. ResilientGM Gilliam: "Don't push yourself, techpriest. You need to save your strength."
  59. Gru_Persay says in distorted speech "The Omnissian Axe. Hand me it."
  60. ResilientGM Gilliam prepares a solution on a syringe, "Are you in pain?"
  61. Gru_Persay screams in binary.
  62. Mathias_Ferrus looks around, grabbing the discarded axe on the floor and offering it. "What do you need this for?"
  63. ResilientGM Gilliam: "Sergeant, I should induce a coma. He shouldn't be straining himself."
  64. Gru_Persay "Not... yet..."
  65. Gru_Persay touches the Skull on the axe and activates a hidden compartment. A devices in hidden within it.
  66. Willus stops moving cargo and looks on, sullen. "I will never understand you cogmen."
  67. Gru_Persay plugs the device into his data-stale. He activates it and the screen is filled binary then the device emits a streams of sounds.
  68. ResilientGM Gilliam stands back a bit.
  69. ResilientGM Gilliam: "Right... officially outside my area of expertise."
  70. Mathias_Ferrus "Hey, Gru, speak to me. What are you doing?" Mathias was clearly confused about the whole situation. "This better not be some silly wife letter or something."
  71. Willus "Wife? I thought that cogmen didn't get marrie because...eh...you know."
  72. Gru_Persay attempts to laugh, but coughs up blood and oil in the process.
  73. ResilientGM Jowalis: "What was that Fox-screech?"
  74. ResilientGM Jowalis: "Metal-man needs a mercy..." he says, reaching for his Jaeger blade.
  75. Mathias_Ferrus "Hold up a moment."
  76. Willus "The unholy report of a dying man-machine, Jowalis." His hand shoots torwards his comrade, his flattened hand commanding his to halt. "Listen to ze sergeant."
  77. Gru_Persay "Ferrus."
  78. ResilientGM Jowalis: "Like a wounded hound, Willus, one has the duty to make it clean."
  79. Mathias_Ferrus "I'm here. What do you need, Gru?" He looks down at the techpriest, concerned.
  80. Gru_Persay hands Ferrus the device and data-slate.
  81. ResilientGM Gilliam: "You Northerners are barbarians..."
  82. Mathias_Ferrus takes it, looking for any important messages.
  83. ResilientGM A low hum suddenly emits from Gru's chest. It's pitch is steady and loud.
  84. ResilientGM Slowly, however, the pitch becomes lower and lower.
  85. Willus "A barbarian is ze the one who lets another man suffer needlessly."
  86. Mathias_Ferrus looks at Gilliam. "Is he...?"
  87. ResilientGM A soft glow of light shines from his chest cavity, and his palms.
  88. Mathias_Ferrus then steps back. "Everyone back up!"
  89. ResilientGM Then, all at once, it all dies down... along with the Enginseer.
  90. ResilientGM Sonder: "Sergeant, I'm sorry to interrupt, but we've got both transports running, and we've loaded everything up. We have to return to base soon."
  91. Willus takes off his helmet, clutching it to his chest. "May you take your place beside ze Emperor, martyr."
  92. ResilientGM Jowalis takes a knee and bows his head.
  93. Mathias_Ferrus kneels down and searches for the tech-priest's tags before loading up to the transport.
  94. Willus does not mourn for long, quickly joining up with his sergeant.
  95. ResilientGM Fireteam Altmann and Sonder's men climb into and atop the transports.
  96. ResilientGM The transports take your men back to the building in which you first encountered the loyalists, passing by the wreckage of the downed Valkyrie, where Animus made his concerning discovery.
  97. Mathias_Ferrus goes to inspect the Valkyrie as soon as they arrive.
  98. ResilientGM Once you arrive, the remaining garrison comes out to greet you, instantly rushing to unload the provisions secured, and to help bring Victrus into their humble infirmary.
  99. Willus dismounts helping the garrison secure supplies.
  100. =-= YOU are now known as DEAD
  101. -->| Animus (chatzilla@sux-4BBCA42F.lightspeed.lnngmi.sbcglobal.net) has joined #resilient
  102. ResilientGM The Valkyrie is as you left it. No apparent signs of any tampering.
  103. ResilientGM Sonder calls, "Sergeant Ferrus!"
  104. Mathias_Ferrus tries to get a closer look of the cockpit but is interrupted by his fellow Sargeant. "I'll be there in a moment!" He then frowns as he climbs down the fusilage and starts to walk towards Sonder.
  105. ResilientGM Sonder and the men who participated in the ambush are gathered around for what appears to be a debrief. "Gather your men around, if you would."
  106. Mathias_Ferrus moves to get his men, even grabbing the psyker who may or may not be tied up ontop of the Chimera.
  107. Animus is silently mourning Gru
  108. Willus saunters over, muttering a prayer to himself and planting the butt of his rifle on the ground, leaning on it like a walking stick.
  109. ResilientGM Sonder: "Sergeant, we just wanted to thank you for joining us on that ambush. It may not seem like much, but the Snake was a monster... ceaselessly hunting down any loyalists."
  110. ResilientGM Sonder: "The son of a bitch was ahead of schedule... if it hadn't been for your scout, we wouldn't have made it on time to set the charges."
  111. Willus does a deep, mock bow, swirling his arm around in the air like some kind of demented showman. "My pleasure, herr sergeant!"
  112. ResilientGM "As you can well see, we need all the supplies we can get our hands on, but we have a gift for your squad, if you can use it. I'm afraid my men aren't trained for this..."
  113. Mathias_Ferrus nods. "Glad to have been of assistance."
  114. ResilientGM At that, one of his men walks forward with a captured melta.
  115. Mathias_Ferrus looks at his men. "Any of you know how to use one of those?"
  116. ResilientGM Sonder: "The resistance is weak, sergeant, but it does still exist. Pockets of us struggle to survive, and your arrival has brought us much needed hope. The Imperium will prevail, sergeant. For the Emperor!"
  117. ResilientGM "For the Emperor!" his men echo
  118. Animus "For the Emperor!"
  119. Willus "For the Emperor!"
  120. Mathias_Ferrus "For the Emperor!"
  121. ResilientGM Sonder: "If you still intend on operating in this sector, we can provide care to your wounded comrade. You are always welcome here, sergeant."
  122. ResilientGM Dawn arrives, and the loyalists light fires and prepare for the night, rotating watches and preparing evening meals.
  123. Mathias_Ferrus goes back to working on the Valkyrie situation.
  124. ResilientGM (Animus): A vague remnant of the Pyromancer's presence still seems to echo along the city ruins, but you are unable to locate him.
  125. ResilientGM (Ferrus): There is nothing suspect about the downed Valkyrie.
  126. Animus speaks to the choas gods, as usual
  127. Animus chaos*
  128. Mathias_Ferrus sleeps super good.
  129. Animus {Redacted}
  130. Animus sleeps
  131. ResilientGM Minutes before the break of dawn, the device left behind by Gru shines bright, and begins to emit a high-pitched alarm.
  132. ResilientGM Jowalis: "Gottesverdammt... was zum Teuffel?!!"
  133. ResilientGM Gilliam: "What a charming parting gift..."
  134. Animus "Are we under assault?" Animus says, rubbing the sleep from his eyes
  135. ResilientGM Gilliam: "No, witch. The Cogboy's toy seems to be an early riser... and now we are, too" he says with a grunt, as he rises to his feet.
  136. Willus stumbles in, rubbing his eyes. His uniform is a mess, and he desperately tries to straighten it out as he seeks out that infernal noise.
  137. Animus "I prefer the term 'Psyker' thanks,"
  138. Willus "Thrones teeth, what does a man have to do to get some sleep around here? Somebody shut that shit off!"
  139. Mathias_Ferrus rolls around a bit before opening his eyes and looking at the noisy dataslate. "Ugh... seems he had a sense of humor."
  140. =-= YOU are now known as Kogin_Hull
  141. Kogin_Hull flies in with his jump pack with his Axe ready.
  142. Animus "Oh swell."
  143. Kogin_Hull screams "01010011 01110101 01110010 01110010 01100101 01101110 01100100 01100101 01110010. "
  144. Mathias_Ferrus quickly goes for his lasgun at seeing the weird figure in front of their camp. "WE HAVE VISITORS!"
  145. Willus draws his jaeger blade, slurring out a growl as he suddenly becomes alert.
  146. Kogin_Hull in broken low Gothic and binary "Master GRU...010101... Master Gru... 010100."
  147. ResilientGM "He's armed!" a sentry calls
  148. Animus takes a deep breath and unleashes a torrent of flames that erupts from his mouth
  149. Mathias_Ferrus "Guy with the axe and jump pack! Stand down!"
  150. ResilientGM Sonder: "Who can see him?! Fire at will!"
  151. Mathias_Ferrus "HOLD FIRE!"
  152. ResilientGM Sonder's sentries open fire.
  153. Animus "Lets call that a warning shot."
  154. ResilientGM One sentry hits the mark, the lasbolt striking him in the chest.
  155. ResilientGM Sonder: "I hope you know what you're doing, Ferrus... HOLD FIRE!! HOLD FIRE!!"
  156. Kogin_Hull readies his Lathe-lasrifle.
  157. Mathias_Ferrus "You! The one with the Axe! What did you just say?!"
  158. Kogin_Hull "01010111 01101000 01100101 01110010 01100101 is Master Gru?"
  159. ResilientGM Jowalis: "Just give the order Herr Sergeant... I've got him in my sights."
  160. Mathias_Ferrus "Gru? As in a tech priest?"
  161. Kogin_Hull "Correct."
  162. ResilientGM Sonder: "Someone you're expecting, Sergeant?"
  163. Animus "Maybe we could play Charades."
  164. Mathias_Ferrus "Well... sorry to be the bearer of bad news but he passed away yesterday. Encounter with a Chimera, I'm afraid."
  165. Kogin_Hull "Show me."
  166. Mathias_Ferrus steps forwards, offering the tech-priest's tags. "Here are his tags. His body should be around here somewhere."
  167. ResilientGM Gilliam: "Yes... let's show him in without asking the customary, 'who the hell are you?' and 'who sent you?'... true brilliance in command..."
  168. Willus "Never question a flying man with an axe. You'll live longer."
  169. Mathias_Ferrus "A moment, please." He then turns around. "Hey, the enemy doesn't know who Gru is."
  170. Kogin_Hull "Take me [Unintelligible binary]."
  171. Animus "I think Gilliam's flask needs to be confiscated. For his health and ours."
  172. Willus cocks his head. "Low gothic is the tongue we speak, stranger. I suggest you start using it."
  173. ResilientGM Gru's device emits a high-pitched beep once again.
  174. Mathias_Ferrus then turns to the visitor. "Hey, it'd be easier if you spoke Low Gothic as the rest of us. And we won't be letting you in until your fill us in on who you are, what unit you are with, who sent you and why are you here."
  175. Kogin_Hull "The beacon. Take me."
  176. Mathias_Ferrus "Fine but you better fill us in soon."
  177. Animus "Yes Master."
  178. Mathias_Ferrus then leads the way, lasgun still in his hands.
  179. Animus "Way to stick to your guns."
  180. ResilientGM Jowalis taps Willus on the shoulder, and tries to sneak around, following the sergeant, with his Jaeger's blade in hand.
  181. Mathias_Ferrus "You want to argue with the pile of armor with an axe and lasgun, psyker?"
  182. ResilientGM Jowalis: +I don't trust it+
  183. Animus "Go with crazy man, stay where I am safe. Seems like a hard choice." Animus says and follows along
  184. Willus swats away his comrade. "Play along for now. He moves one inch out of line, stick him. verstanden?"
  185. Animus "Understood!"
  186. ResilientGM Jowalis: "Jawohl."
  187. Kogin_Hull approaches Gru's body.
  188. Kogin_Hull "Master..."
  189. Kogin_Hull makes the sign of the Omnissiah.
  190. Kogin_Hull "A man may die yet still endure if his work enters the greater work. [Techna-Lingua prayer]."
  191. Mathias_Ferrus "So... mind telling us a bit more now?"
  192. Willus "You have given us the run around long enough, metal man. Answer ze sergeant."
  193. Kogin_Hull "Gru is my Master. We were sent here on a mission."
  194. Animus "He was a swell guy."
  195. Mathias_Ferrus "Mission, huh? Who sent you?"
  196. Kogin_Hull "The Council of Magos."
  197. Animus "Oh good, I was afraid he was going to say something vague."
  198. Mathias_Ferrus "Who?"
  199. Kogin_Hull approaches the beacon and turns off the alarm. He connects the beacon to his data-slate.
  200. Willus looks at the psyker, perplexed, before snorting with laughter.
  201. Animus "Somebody appreciates my humor."
  202. Mathias_Ferrus walks up behind the metal man and lightly puts a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, we've helped you enough. Throw us a bone here, cogboy."
  203. Kogin_Hull "[Binary chatter] It doesn't matter, the mission isn't complete. 'Our enemies may rest but rust never sleeps.'"
  204. Mathias_Ferrus "It matters to me and my men here. We just lost a squadmate, your 'Master'. Then a big guy in armor and heavily armed shows up, that means you, and starts asking for things and giving orders. The only orders I'm forced to follow are those from the chain of command. Please give me some good explanations or I won't be able to guarantee your safety."
  205. Animus "I'd say something threatening, but I have nothing."
  206. Kogin_Hull "I am assuming you have seen the heretical machinery roaming about."
  207. Animus "Yeah, they turned your master into roadkill."
  208. Mathias_Ferrus "Uh... unless you mean the vehicles and weaponry being used by the enemy, nope."
  209. Kogin_Hull "I suggest the witch keep his vox-hole shut."
  210. Animus "Feeling chilly? Oh that was a good one."
  211. Animus smiles to himself
  212. Mathias_Ferrus "And I suggest you cooperate." The sergeant steps in front of the agent of the machine god, his shorter stature in relative terms noticeable like this.
  213. Kogin_Hull "There is a techno-heretic behind this war. The Adeptus Mechanicus went this dishonorable waste of metal dead."
  214. Animus "Go get him then."
  215. Mathias_Ferrus "See? Was that so hard? Though Gru never told us anything about that. As far as we knew, he was just our assigned cogboy."
  216. Kogin_Hull "Gru had his orders."
  217. Mathias_Ferrus "As we all. I take it you'll be on your way or...?"
  218. Kogin_Hull Gru's orders are now my orders. I'll be staying."
  219. Mathias_Ferrus shrugs and then smiles softly. "Welcome aboard!" He then offers a handshake.
  220. Kogin_Hull looks at Ferrus' hand and slowly reaches for it.
  221. Mathias_Ferrus slowly closes the distance and lightly starts the handshake. "This is called a handshake, it's a greeting. Also a way to close deals, among other things."
  222. Animus "How cute."
  223. ResilientGM Gilliam: "Great... it has the mind of a child and the weaponry necessary to take out an armored column..."
  224. Animus "That was a good one."
  225. ResilientGM Gilliam: "I'm here all week..." he says, punctuating his sentence with a gulp from his choice drink.
  226. Kogin_Hull approaches Gru's body and starts praying.
  227. ResilientGM Gilliam: "Now if you don't mind, I'll be checking on the boy who didn't look both ways."
  228. Animus "Dun dun tss."
  229. Kogin_Hull "Time is carried upon a current incepted by forgotten deeds. Events of great moment are but the culmination of a single carefully placed thought. As all men must thank progenitors obscured by the past so we must endure the present that those who come after may continue the greater work."
  230. Mathias_Ferrus then goes back to his corner. "Hey, I'm going back to sleep. If anything happens, tell Willus and if it's serious enough, tell me."
  231. Animus "Can I be in charge?"
  232. ResilientGM Gilliam: "Oh, sure... leave us with your new friend."
  233. ResilientGM Gilliam: "Don't make me sedate you, /Psyker/"
  234. Animus "Would you like to be medium rare or well done?"
  235. Mathias_Ferrus "You are in charge of not killing us all. Also, preparing my recaf. Have fun."
  236. |<-- Mathias_Ferrus has left thisisnotatrueending.com (Quit: )
  237. Animus "Cube of sweetener or two?"
  238. Kogin_Hull binary chants 'The Rite of Maintenance.'
  239. |<-- Willus has left thisisnotatrueending.com (Quit: )
  240. =-= ResilientGM has changed the topic to “fag”
  241. =-= ResilientGM has changed the topic to “BATTLE ROYALE ETA: 3 min”
  242. =-= Animus has changed the topic to “*bundle of sticks made for burning”
  243. =-= ResilientGM has changed the topic to “BATTLE ROYALE ETA: 3 min”
  244. Kogin_Hull tears off a piece of his robe with the Omnissiah sign and places it on Gru's chest.
  245. Kogin_Hull "Gru's servitors? [Binary jargon] Where are they?"
  246. Animus "Check the treads of the chimera."
  247. Kogin_Hull goes outside to investigate the chimera.
  248. Animus chuckles
  249. ResilientGM Tech-heresy most vile... and yet... clean. The maintenance you see here, the sophistication and care with which the machines have been treated is a very telling sign. Gru's report appears to be accurate.
  250. Kogin_Hull looks around for a guard and approaches one. Hull asks "Have you seen any of Master Gru's servitors?"
  251. ResilientGM "Inside the transport..."
  252. Kogin_Hull "Omnissiah's blessing". Hull investigates the transport chimera.
  253. ResilientGM Inside are the remains of servitors, and one -immobile- "living" servitor, unresponsive.
  254. Kogin_Hull "By the Omnissiah..."
  255. Kogin_Hull approaches the functioning servitor and asks in binary about its identification and registration.
  256. ResilientGM The servitor gives basic identification information in a short burst of techna lingua.
  257. Kogin_Hull responds with reassignment protocols and the 'Ceremony of Commission'.
  258. Kogin_Hull [Techna Linqua] "This machine is discharged into your care."
  259. Kogin_Hull [Techna Linqua] "Fight with this machine, and guard it from the shame of defeat."
  260. Kogin_Hull [Techna Linqua] "Serve this machine, as you would have fight it for you."
  261. Kogin_Hull [Techna Linqua] "I shall"
  262. ResilientGM [Techna Lingua] "I shall."
  263. =-= ResilientGM has changed the topic to “BATTLE ROYALE ETA: SOON, MOTHERFUCKER”
  264. Kogin_Hull removes the symbol of the Omnissiah from the decreases servitors.
  265. Kogin_Hull "You shall serve the Omnissiah."
  266. Kogin_Hull exits the chimera with his gun servitor.
  267.
  268. Hull PoV:
  269. ResilientGM ++A beacon has been activated++
  270. ResilientGM The night wind around you is fresh, as you fly from rooftop to rooftop, navigating the city scape.
  271. ResilientGM ++Master Enginseer Gru Persay. Coordinates being uplinked. Critical information must be secured.++
  272. ResilientGM Projected in front of your left eye, numbers project into your field of vision with information of coordinates, and identities.
  273. ResilientGM ++Omnissiah's blessings, Kogin.++
  274. ResilientGM Your sensors tell you you're nearing your destination, just minutes before the break of Dawn.
  275. ResilientGM Two armored vehicles are registered, with multiple sentries standing guard around a position.
  276. ResilientGM The beacon, then, begins to transmit it's exact location to you.
  277. ResilientGM +\\++BEACON ACQUIRED++\\+
  278. ResilientGM Your visor lights up with information
  279. ResilientGM +\\++ENGINSEER PRIME: PERSAY, GRU++\\+
  280. ResilientGM The device's readings light up in your visor. It is being held by the man speaking to you.
  281.
  282.
  283. ResilientGM
  284. Sudden flashes of light slowly form into shapes...
  285.
  286. ResilientGM
  287. it's vague, but you slowly make out the figure of your old instructor, Sergeant
  288. Hegel.
  289.
  290. ResilientGM
  291. You find yourself in the old Heavy Weapons Range of the Prithian academy where
  292. you once trained.
  293.
  294. Victrus_Macharius
  295. looks around and wonders how he ended up here.
  296.
  297. Victrus_Macharius
  298. looks over to Hegel, "Sir, is that you, whats going on here?"
  299.
  300. ResilientGM
  301. "Like I said, Macharius, you must always take care to anticipate your enemies'
  302. movements. Aim ahead."
  303.
  304. Victrus_Macharius
  305. "Sir, but what if their direction changes?"
  306.
  307. ResilientGM
  308. "You must always be alert. Read his movements, become aware of his body
  309. language. Use your superior firepower to your advantage."
  310.
  311. ResilientGM
  312. "Deny him cover. Destroy it AND those hiding behind it."
  313.
  314. Victrus_Macharius
  315. "And obliterate them with every shot."
  316.
  317. ResilientGM
  318. Hegel lets out a roaring laugh, "That's right my boy, that's right!"
  319.
  320. ResilientGM
  321. "You punch right through their formations!" he says, making a fist.
  322.
  323. Victrus_Macharius
  324. "And they will fall to their death by the hand of the emperor," Victrus says
  325. with a smile.
  326.
  327. Victrus_Macharius
  328. "So what is that you wish of me today Sergeant?"
  329.
  330. ResilientGM
  331. Hegel: "Patience, private."
  332.
  333. Victrus_Macharius
  334. "Yes Sir."
  335.
  336. ResilientGM
  337. Around you, your memories become clearer... you are with a squad of specialists.
  338. You are lined up along with your comrades, Hegel has in front of him an
  339. autocannon, a heavy bolter, and a dual-linked autogun.
  340.
  341. ResilientGM
  342. "These are the tools of the trade, gentlemen."
  343.
  344. ResilientGM
  345. "With these, you will become the Hammer of the Emperor. You will bring PAIN
  346. and DESTRUCTION to His enemies."
  347.
  348. ResilientGM
  349. "With these..." he pauses for a moment.
  350.
  351. ResilientGM
  352. "With these..." his tone becomes more serious, "I have broken the hoards of
  353. greenskins assaulting otherwise defenseless Imperial worlds."
  354.
  355. ResilientGM
  356. It's true... all of it. Hegel is a hero of war. You all know it. You all knew it, and
  357. were all equally thrilled to know it when you were told /he/ would be the new head
  358. instructor for Heavy Weapons.
  359.
  360. ResilientGM
  361. You were all hand selected to be his very first students.
  362.
  363. ResilientGM
  364. Graduates, in a sense, of the new "School of Hegel" -not an official designation,
  365. but one which gave you select few great prestige among your peers at the
  366. Academy.
  367.
  368. ResilientGM
  369. "And now... Private Macharius. Step forward."
  370.
  371. Victrus_Macharius
  372. "Yes sir," Victrus says as he steps forward.
  373.
  374. ResilientGM
  375. "Man the autogun emplacement, Private."
  376.
  377. ResilientGM
  378. "Private Volgin. Aid Mr. Macharius."
  379.
  380. Victrus_Macharius
  381. "Yes sir," Both Victrus and and Volgin man the autogun.
  382.
  383. ResilientGM
  384. In front of you, across that field, targets will slowly begin to appear. Take as many
  385. of them out as you can within the allotted time, or... until they overrun your
  386. position.
  387.
  388. ResilientGM
  389. Volgin: "I'd rather we not be overrun," he says with a smirk.
  390.
  391. Victrus_Macharius
  392. "You and me both. You ready for this?" he replies with a smirk as well.
  393.
  394. ResilientGM
  395. In the few months you had known Arthur, you had become very efficient training
  396. partners. Not quite friends, however. He was cold, and very mild-mannered. He
  397. had incredible self-discipline and was as by-the-book as they came. Nonetheless,
  398. you two had deep respect for one another, and always worked well. Hegel knew
  399. this, and he often paired you to demonstrate to your peers "how it's done."
  400.
  401. ResilientGM
  402. Volgin: "I'll keep feeding her, and you keep her spitting."
  403.
  404. ResilientGM
  405. Hegel: "Brace yourselves into Overwatch positions."
  406.
  407. ResilientGM
  408. Volgin instantly ducks, using his legs as springs to support himself, at maximum
  409. attention, while lining himself up with the feeding line. He quickly prepares the
  410. ammunition belt, and loads the weapon, tapping you on the shoulder once it's
  411. ready. Seeing that, Hegel instructs:
  412.
  413. ResilientGM
  414. "Loaders. Always make your gunners aware that the weapon is hot and ready to
  415. go. In war, you will be firing often. And chances are you will be deaf for extended
  416. periods of time. Verbal communication will not be useful to you. A simple pat of
  417. the head, shoulder, or back of your gunner will do."
  418.
  419. Victrus_Macharius
  420. gets into position and readies his finger on the trigger to open fire "Well
  421. then, let show them what we can do."
  422.
  423. ResilientGM
  424. The first approaching "enemies" are a squad of 4 dummies. They slowly approach,
  425. and begin to loosen their formation as they close in on your position.
  426.
  427. Victrus_Macharius
  428. takes aim with the autogun
  429.
  430. ResilientGM
  431. "The enemy will spread. Why? Because they'd rather not be meat for your meat-
  432. grinder. Do NOT give them the opportunity to do so. LET HER RIP!"
  433.
  434. Victrus_Macharius
  435. pulls the trigger and opens fire on the approaching enemy
  436.
  437. ResilientGM
  438. The dual-linked guns spit their hateful arguments out at the approaching
  439. formation, "killing" three of the four in the first 3 seconds of burst.
  440.
  441. ResilientGM
  442. Hegel laughs again, in that deep roar of a laughter everyone knew him for.
  443.
  444. Victrus_Macharius
  445. aims over at the final target and opens fire again
  446.
  447. Victrus_Macharius
  448. the final enemy falls as the shots from the autogun rips through the dummy.
  449.
  450. ResilientGM
  451. "Your bursts should be controlled -very well done, Macharius- in order to have full
  452. dominion of your weapons. You will be deadly, unleashing storms of firepower to
  453. destroy the enemy hoards, and small bursts to destroy the remaining, fleeing,
  454. terrified and broken elements of the enemy!"
  455.
  456. ResilientGM
  457. "Weapon's team, man the heavy bolter. You will assume overwatch positions, and
  458. you will fire at the enemy on sight. GO, DOUBLE TIME!"
  459.
  460. Victrus_Macharius
  461. moves over to the heavy bolter and assumes overwatch along with Arthur
  462.
  463. ResilientGM
  464. Arthur quickly sprints over to the second weapon system and begins the loading
  465. procedures as quickly as he is able.
  466.
  467. ResilientGM
  468. Once the cartridge is locked in place, you feel the pat on your shoulder.
  469.
  470. Victrus_Macharius
  471. feels the pat on his shoulder as the bolter is now live a ready to fire
  472.
  473. ResilientGM
  474. Suddenly, Hegel roars fiercely. You and your fellow students are a bit confused.
  475.
  476. ResilientGM
  477. You soon realize he's mimicking the roar of charging orks, as in front of you, a
  478. mass of green-colored dummies is pushed in your directions.
  479.
  480. Victrus_Macharius
  481. realizing this, Victrus turns his attention and aims and opens fire on the
  482. approaching dummies.
  483.
  484. Victrus_Macharius
  485. takes out a chunk of them enemy but the rest still continue to approaches so
  486. he pulls the trigger again.
  487.
  488. Victrus_Macharius
  489. though he opens fire, his rounds miss this time, but determined as always
  490. he opens fire once more.
  491.
  492. Victrus_Macharius
  493. again the shots fall short of hitting their targets.
  494.
  495. ResilientGM
  496. Three bursts in, Arthur has to discard the spent cartridges, and commence the
  497. loading sequence once more. He does so with a stern look on his face, efficiently
  498. packing on the new rounds.
  499.
  500. ResilientGM
  501. All the while, the advancing mob closes its distance.
  502.
  503. ResilientGM
  504. Once locked in, he once again gives you the tap on your back.
  505.
  506. Victrus_Macharius
  507. takes aim again and opens fire.
  508.
  509. Victrus_Macharius
  510. This time three of the approaching enemies are taken out, as Victrus then
  511. continues to fire on the remaining enemy.
  512.
  513. ResilientGM
  514. Hegel: "Don't let out! Keep firing! Grind them to the ground!"
  515.
  516. Victrus_Macharius
  517. The bolter suddenly jams as Victrus tries to open fire again on the
  518. approaching dummies.
  519.
  520. ResilientGM
  521. Arthur: "Shit... okay, let's get this thing cleared out!"
  522.
  523. ResilientGM
  524. You both struggle to open the breach and clear the jammed cartridge, it is burning
  525. hot.
  526.
  527. ResilientGM
  528. Meanwhile, the enemy greenskins close in even more.
  529.
  530. ResilientGM
  531. Hegel: "Don't let those damned orks overrun your position, now!"
  532.
  533. ResilientGM
  534. You finally unjam, with the enemy not 20 meters away from your position.
  535.
  536. ResilientGM
  537. Arthur lodges the ammo in, and pats you hard on the shoulder, "GO, FIRE!"
  538.
  539. Victrus_Macharius
  540. opens fire.
  541.
  542. Victrus_Macharius
  543. Three more of the dummies fall as Victrus continues to fire on the
  544. remaining enemy.
  545.
  546. ResilientGM
  547. The enemy now is at 10 meters...
  548.
  549. Victrus_Macharius
  550. With the dummies now within 10 meters, each of the shot hits there target,
  551. taking out another twelve targets.
  552.
  553. ResilientGM
  554. "WHEN THE ENEMY CLOSES IN, YOU MUST DEFEND WITH WHAT YOU
  555. CAN. CHARGE!!!!"
  556.
  557. Victrus_Macharius
  558. jumps up off of the bolter and charges at the enemy with his combat knife.
  559.
  560. ResilientGM
  561. Arthur unwields his combat knife, and shrugs.
  562.
  563. ResilientGM
  564. He charges in behind you, stabbing at the dummies.
  565.
  566. Victrus_Macharius
  567. With his combat knife, Victrus successfully takes out two of the dummies.
  568.
  569. ResilientGM
  570. Sergeant Hegel waves his hand in front of his face, in a quick pattern, signaling the
  571. end of the exercise. The dummies fall on the floor.
  572.
  573. Victrus_Macharius
  574. stops in place as he sees that the exercise is now complete.
  575.
  576. ResilientGM
  577. Hegel: "HAhahahaha.... very good. Well done indeed."
  578.
  579. Victrus_Macharius
  580. smiles and walks over to Arthur, "good job on getting the bolter
  581. unjammed"
  582.
  583. ResilientGM
  584. The training exercise ends, and you're dismissed into the Mess Hall to have your
  585. meal.
  586.
  587. Victrus_Macharius
  588. enters the mess hall, once there he gathers his food and finds a place to sit
  589. down.
  590.
  591. ResilientGM
  592. Arthur: "You know..." he says, taking a gulp from his cup, "... you and I make a
  593. good team."
  594.
  595. Victrus_Macharius
  596. look up at Arthur, "Yea, we really do." Victrus sits there for a moment
  597. before saying anything more. "What do you say to us working together, as
  598. we work towards becoming the best heavy weapons duo in the imperial
  599. guard."
  600.
  601. ResilientGM
  602. "We could talk to Sergeant Hegel... I'm sure his recommendation will be enough
  603. to set us as a heavy weapons team.
  604.
  605. Victrus_Macharius
  606. "Yep, we have been working together a lot lately too."
  607.
  608. ResilientGM
  609. "We should visit him after tomorrow's training session. He usually sits in the
  610. officer's quarters."
  611.
  612. Victrus_Macharius
  613. "Yea, lets do that, tomorrow we shall talk to him about it." Victrus smiles,
  614. and returns to finishing eating his meal.
