- Patience: Oh, neat.
- KajaRainbow: There's also a spoilery one.
- KajaRainbow: Spoiler: cat ears are featured.
- Patience: (Link: http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll153/nweismuller/Alanta_portrait.png)http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll153/nweismuller/Alanta_portrait.png This could at least work as a face shot of Aliken.
- Patience: Because she's a kitty, of course.
- zebuloncrispi: Obviously.
- zebuloncrispi: Where's AOB.
- KajaRainbow: AFK for some reason.
- KajaRainbow: Know what, we'll just assume Bradigan's doing his rangery things.
- Patience: He's home, home on the range.
- zebuloncrispi: He does that.
- KajaRainbow: Until AOB gets in here anyway.
- KajaRainbow: So, you've been dumped back out into the grasslands. The closest major city you've heard of is apparently the Spire. You can make your way back to the road and the crossroads then take the road toward it, or attempt to cut cross-country.
- KajaRainbow: Dragon's Fall isn't as large, but it's closer.
- Patience: Is anybody here confident of not getting lost cutting cross-country?
- KajaRainbow: DRagon's Landing
- KajaRainbow: That is.
- zebuloncrispi: Well, our ranger is erstwhile
- KajaRainbow: I'll roll for him as needed.
- zebuloncrispi: Oh, OK.
- Patience: I think we should take the direct cross-country route to the Spire.
- zebuloncrispi: Then Golasa votes for the straightest possible line between point A and point B.
- Patience: The Spire sounds like our best bet for liquidating some of this stuff we've found.
- zebuloncrispi: (is Inc here?)
- KajaRainbow: Very well. Who shall take the jobs of keeping an eye of trouble, making sure you're on the right track, and managing the rations?
- *** zeaob has joined the conversation.
- KajaRainbow: Hi!
- zeaob: (Ugh, sorry about the wait. Mom needed help with her iPhone, something I know nothing about.)
- nekoincchan: (Sorry!)
- zebuloncrispi: wham, we're all here
- KajaRainbow: (So, there're two votes for making a straight bolt cross-country for a city called the Spire.)
- nekoincchan: (Rin focuses on keeping us moving in the right direction)
- nekoincchan: (She agrees with going to the Spire)
- Patience: Who here has a decent WIS?
- zebuloncrispi: Ive got +1
- zeaob: If Brad's in the party, I think he's got +1.
- zebuloncrispi: I think Brad auto-succeeds for travel checks,t hough
- zeaob: oh goodie
- KajaRainbow: Only if he's an elf.
- zeaob: Haha. Nope.
- zeaob: Gelatinous.
- Patience: Anybody else with a positive WIS bonus?
- Patience: If not, I'll do quartermastering.
- Patience: I only have a 0 for WIS, so people with positive WIS should be preferred.
- Patience: So which of you is scout and which is lookout?
- zeaob: (Ranger being scout is probably ideal.)
- zebuloncrispi: what's the third role again
- Patience: Quartermaster. Cut down on food consumption, maybe, probably the least important, since we're well-supplied.
- zebuloncrispi: Quartermaster, Scout, and
- zebuloncrispi: oh, Lookout
- zebuloncrispi: I guess Golasa can do that
- KajaRainbow: Okay, let's get straight to the rolls. :)
- Patience: /roll
- Patience: //roll
- nathanweismuller: NathanWeismuller rolled 2 6-sided dice: 3 5
- Patience: 8! Woo, that's the expected ration consumption, then.
- zebuloncrispi: ZebulonCrispi rolled 2 6-sided dice: 3 3
- zebuloncrispi: 7!
- zeaob: (What was the code for rolling again?)
- Patience: Type //roll
- zeaob: zeaob rolled 2 6-sided dice: 6 1
- zeaob: (Oh, hey)
- zebuloncrispi: Nobody gets the drop on us.
- KajaRainbow: The journey proves mostly uneventful. You run across a rather suspicious raggedy and armed lot, but they appear rather wary of a party of what looks like dungeon explorer types, not to mention the bizarre slime man and his bear. They move away from you.
- KajaRainbow: Do you wish to engage them, or allow them to get away?
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa's not having anything to do with armed strangers on the road if she can help it.
- zeaob: "Oh, get over it," grunts the slime in response.
- Patience: Let's just skirt well clear of them.
- nekoincchan: Rin agrees to just move onward and skirt clear
- KajaRainbow: So you skirt the likely brigands.
- zebuloncrispi: "They have two names for heavily-armed roving groups of people on the road: Adventurers, and bandits. I don't care to find out which ones they were."
- Patience: "You forgot soldiers, but those could have been just as bad anyhow."
- KajaRainbow: Aside from that, there's only the nearly naked elf's singing of what you're sure isn't traditional elven songs. He appears fond of songs in random obscure languages, ones that feature jokes involving arcane aspects of magic which likely only make sense to Golasa (not necessarily a good thing as many of them're real groaners), and something about a lusty lizardwoman wench.
- zeaob: "They don't want anything to do with us, so we have nothing to deal with them."
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa pointedly ignores anything Naked Elf says.
- zebuloncrispi: She was opposed to his tagging along in the first place.
- zeaob: Bradigan is working very hard not to notice the nude elf. "Is this what adventuring's come to? Honestly," he grumbles.
- KajaRainbow: True, he does wear pants, but, you know, that's all.
- Patience: Aliken cooks in the evenings, building the fires and setting camps. The elf needs to eat too, but helping him get to civilisation was the right thing to do.
- zebuloncrispi: There's something odd about the blind one keeping lookout, but she's got plenty of ways to detect an ambush.
- KajaRainbow: Eventually, a single tower rises into sight. As you travel toward it, it slowly glows in height... and then after a couple of days, you finally see the other buildings, with that tower looming impossibly tall over them.
- KajaRainbow: (Grows, not glows)
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa doesn't!
- Patience: "Well, I can't imagine THAT'S anything but the Spire. Going to be good to get in a real bed again."
- zebuloncrispi: "Oh, are we getting close?"
- KajaRainbow: Yes, by this point you're likely a little tired of the stretches of golden grass.
- Patience: "There's a very tall tower rising over this city. Makes the name pretty obvious."
- nekoincchan: "No kidding."
- zeaob: "Ahah. You lightweights. Try living a few decades outdoors. No, really. It'll do wonders for you."
- zebuloncrispi: "I don't think I'll take you up on that offer."
- KajaRainbow: It looks like there're guards stationed upon the roofs of the outlying buildings, but they only glance at arrivals in a more or less customary manner.
- zeaob: "Hm? Shame."
- KajaRainbow: The actual city walls're further inside--it looks like the city's sprawled out beyond the confides of its walls.
- Patience: "Let's see if we can't ask around and find who a good dealer to unload what we've found is."
- zebuloncrispi: (What loot did we get? I forget)
- KajaRainbow: (A bunch of unusual and pricy looking books.)
- zeaob: (Fitting for an academic dungeon.)
- zebuloncrispi: Also, how many days of rations did we just use up?
- zeaob: "Naturally, I'll be staying outside. While the rest of you are uncomfortable with a little wilderness, I'm not."
- Patience: Aliken shrugs. "Up to you."
- nekoincchan: "Personally, I like urban environments. A lot."
- zebuloncrispi: "I won't say no to the comforts of civilization."
- KajaRainbow: "My only objection to civilization is its insistence upon me wearing more than what is truly necessary!"
- zebuloncrispi: "Also, arriving here seems like a great opportunity to reduce the size of our party by one."
- Patience: "Agreed. You're safely here. I'm sure you can take care of yourself from here on out." Aliken massages her temples as she addresses the elf.
- KajaRainbow: The Naked Elf casually pulls out a shirt from his pack and tugs it on. "Parting is such sweet sorrow."
- KajaRainbow: Then he strides out to the city.
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa exhales.
- nekoincchan: "Yay," Rin mutters affter he's well clear of earshot.
- zebuloncrispi: How may days was our journey?
- Patience: "It's not worth the bother trying to collect on him, more's the pity," Aliken muses.
- KajaRainbow: Let's say seven.
- zebuloncrispi: half my resources!
- Patience: And I will cover the elf's food, unless it turns out, when I find my character sheet, that I didn't have enough food for that.
- Patience: Makes it simpler.
- zebuloncrispi: Well, let's find an inn before we plan the next leg of our journey.
- KajaRainbow: One thing that you notice upon entering the city (except for Bradigan who remains out) is that it's fairly bustling, and you don't seem to be the only adventurer in town. Or at least it's hard to see that scarred halfing with way too many pockets and pouches as anything else. She's examining a map with a goblin woman in a stereotypical wizard robe.
- Patience: "Looks like we have some healthy competition. Heh. Think they might know some of the good places in town?"
- zebuloncrispi: "Feel free to ask them."
- KajaRainbow: Bradigan, what shall you be doing while the others're messing around in civilization?
- Patience: Aliken walks up to the duo and salutes. "Looks to me as if we share a trade. I was wondering if you might have a few pointers for somebody new to this city."
- KajaRainbow: "Dungeon board's thatways, down this street until you get to the big street and then follow that down to the big square. Inns'r nearby and you can bother others there for anything else," the halfing mumbles before turning back to the map.
- nekoincchan: "Let's focus on selling the valuables first," Rin suggests. "Then resupply, then hunt dungeon rumors."
- Patience: "Agreed. 'Dungeon board', huh? Sounds like this place has a great many of them around."
- zeaob: Bradigan will be keeping lookout.
- zeaob: May as well in case trouble comes following civilization.
- zeaob: He'll also be hunting and gathering rations as sport to pass the time.
- KajaRainbow: One thing that Bradigan did notice on the way here is that animals're surprisingly scarce.
- zebuloncrispi: "I was planning to find the library, but we're not short on reading material now."
- Patience: "If there are inns around this dungeon board, I imagine an innkeeper might know some merchants who could take these valuables off our hands."
- KajaRainbow: Moreover, Bradigan doesn't find as many animal traces as he'd expect.
- zeaob: Something of an omen, then.
- Patience: Aliken presses on towards the board, looking out for an inn where they can settle down, stable the mule, and have a hot meal.
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa tags along quietly.
- zeaob: To be frank, Brad may be inclined to head on in just for some food, but damn it, he has his pride.
- zeaob: The temptations of civilization are powerful.
- KajaRainbow: The "board" seems to be a large map tacked to a board, under a roof that's been erected over it. There're others that look like adventures crowded around it.
- KajaRainbow: Around the square which the board's found a semi-central location in, several of the buildings have signs advertising them as inns.
- Patience: Aliken looks around to find an inn that looks decent and comfortable. We have enough cash to afford at least a little comfort.
- zebuloncrispi: indeed!
- zeaob: (Why not splurge?)
- zeaob: (Come on, Aliken.)
- KajaRainbow: You have your selection of the Leering Troll, Restful Nights, and Plump Dragon.
- zebuloncrispi: Let's not go with Leering Troll.
- KajaRainbow: Out of the better looking selections.
- zeaob: Restful Nights sounds awful.
- zeaob: Go with Plump Dragon.
- zebuloncrispi: Man you're not even coming.
- zebuloncrispi: Crazy ranger.
- KajaRainbow: Bradigan, eventually you begin suspecting that you're being observed.
- Patience: "I like the idea of Restful Nights. But you prefer the Plump Dragon?" Aliken shrugs. "Fair enough."
- zeaob: "... You won't get anywhere by trying to hide from a ranger," Bradigan whispers. The observer should note that the ranger is lacking one companion.
- zeaob: (Hold on, will be back in ten minutes. Gotta walk the dog.)
- nekoincchan: Rin, notably, inspects her hand... (QUESTION: Can she use a nail to Envenom someone?)
- KajaRainbow: (Aliken, Bradigan wasn't even there to make that comment.)
- zebuloncrispi: Then let's say Golasa suggested it.
- KajaRainbow: (Hmm. You'd need especially sharp nails for that, but you could probably use a hidden needle or something.)
- nekoincchan: (This being Rin, she would probably sharpen her nails, given that her posions are explicitly noted as secreted from her (this was a concept thing we discussed early on))
- Patience: (Oh, sorry, I got confused about who was speaking.)
- Patience: "Let's try the Restful Nights?"
- KajaRainbow: (Know what, I'll allow it.)
- Patience: (... Rin secretes poison? o.o)
- zebuloncrispi: (This party is full of mysteries)
- nekoincchan: (Her body's modified, yeah. Exact details are hidden.)
- nekoincchan: (By which I mean I explicitly didn't write them down so Kaja can make them up over time :P)
- nekoincchan: "Sounds like a plan," Rin said. "Oh, uh, and when we go shopping, I reserve the right to head off on my own for a bit, okay?"
- zebuloncrispi: "I might do the same."
- Patience: "I'm not your queen. Do what you want." Aliken waves a hand dismissively.
- nekoincchan: Rin smiles. "Now, let's focus on getting a room!"
- nekoincchan: "Or two. Or three."
- zebuloncrispi: "I'm fine with the Restful Nights, and I'd prefer my own room."
- nekoincchan: "Agreed, if we can afford it."
- Patience: Aliken nods and heads in, looking about the inn.
- KajaRainbow: Upon entering the Restful Nights, you see a sign saying "Few vacancies available. Extra rooms not guaranteed." Beneath it is a warty fat man wiping the bar. The tables seem stuffed with people who look like adventurers, or wannabe ones.
- zeaob: (And back!)
- Patience: "Why don't we check around and see if anyplace else has more vacancies, then?"
- zebuloncrispi: "WIth this many adventurers in town? I'm not convinced."
- Patience: "We might get lucky, and it shouldn't take long to check."
- zebuloncrispi: "We should at least try. Excuse me! We need three rooms."
- KajaRainbow: The fat man takes one look at your party. "I can give you one. You want more, you'll have to look further away from the board."
- zeaob: (Good thing the party consists of only one gender.)
- KajaRainbow: Bradigan, you hear a voice saying, "Hmph. You aren't completely insensate." It's a light, airy voice that belongs to an elf. But this elf has a more feral look to her than most, wearing animal hides and furs. You've ran into those now and then. One of the elves following the older ways, rejecting urban civilization.
- zebuloncrispi: "Tch, one room..."
- KajaRainbow: They aren't quite as common as the more 'civilized' elves.
- zeaob: "For all your kind's foppishness, your hearing's as top-notch as ever, feral or not," comments Bradigan, staying where he is. He isn't sure whether the elf is armed, but a feral elf is potentially more dangerous. "So what's with stalking me? Hopefully it's not because I'm your type. I've been happily married, I'll have you know."
- Patience: "I suppose we can bunk up in one room. We were wondering if you knew of any merchants that might be willing to buy rare and valuable books, also."
- nekoincchan: "... Let's just try someplace further out," Rin advises. Longer walks are okay if it means cheaper ways to three rooms."
- KajaRainbow: The elf's mouth twitches with what might be slight amusement or irritation. "The foppish ones you speak of are the weak city elves. And you are a curiosity."
- zebuloncrispi: "I agree."
- KajaRainbow: "Try the booksellers' distinct." The man points at a pile of parchments. "Maps're one gold. I'll mark it for you."
- nekoincchan: Rin pauses... Then pays the gold.
- zeaob: "They don't look strong, but I'll leave you with judgments on strength. What do you want? I'm all up for a bit of chit chat, but I know that's not why you've been following me."
- zeaob: *they sure don't bother trying to look strong
- KajaRainbow: The fat man takes out a quill and quickly circles two spots on the map. "Here's the square, here's the booksellers. Anything else you want?"
- nekoincchan: "No thank you," Rin says. Not when she can do a better job elsewhere, she thinks...
- Patience: "Thank you for your time."
- KajaRainbow: The feral elf crosses her arms. "You do not seek the city. Why?"
- KajaRainbow: "No, I dare say you won't find beds as restful as mine." He sighs. "But I'm nearly full with all the folks coming for the dungeons."
- zeaob: "I've got nothing to want in there. That's all."
- nekoincchan: "Yeah... Problem is, we want some time away from one another having done a few of them.
- Patience: "I could do without the hot-bunking."
- KajaRainbow: "Nevertheless, game is so sparse that I would advise you seek it elsewhere," the elf says, "Has been since the dungeons started appearing in many numbers."
- KajaRainbow: The fat man nods. "If you want a recommendation, try the Jolly Bottom." He marks another circle on the map.
- KajaRainbow: "Beds aren't nearly as good as mine, but they're closer than most."
- Patience: "Thank you! I'll tell them you sent us."
- zeaob: The slime chuckles. "Oh, come now. I'll be here but a day. Can't you show a little hospitality just for the evening?"
- nekoincchan: Rin leads the way towards the Jolly Bottom.
- KajaRainbow: You spot the Jolly Bottom by its sign featuring a halfing slumbering upon an oversized rump. Inside, it seems not nearly as busy--there're only a couple of full tables. The thin man leaning his elbow upon the counter has a certain familial resemblance to the owner of Restful Nights.
- Patience: Aliken follows along, keeping an eye out along the way for any establishments that might offer travelling supplies. Not that finding food in a city is too taxing a feat.
- Patience: Aliken nods. "The proprietor of the Restful Nights sent us along your way. We're looking for three rooms."
- KajaRainbow: "If you wish to invoke hospitality, then join me in the hunt," the elf says.
- KajaRainbow: The thinner innkeeper says, "Oh, you're in luck. And forget what he said about my beds not being as good. If anything, they're the better ones." He reaches under the counter to pull out three keys.
- Patience: Aliken chuckles. "How much a night?"
- zeaob: "Hunt? Heh..."
- zeaob: "Why didn't you say so in the first place? All you had to do was offer."
- zeaob: "But at least we solved our differences with words, not violence. Otherwise, well... Monty, back."
- zeaob: The slime bear rematerializes by Bradigan's side, growling lowly.
- zeaob: "I had a bear with me."
- KajaRainbow: "Six a night. Room prices've gotten higher lately, with all the folks in town. Morning meals included, another coin for each meal beyond that."
- nekoincchan: Rin pays for her first night quickly, deciding not to press her luck with any negotiation - the man does have a point...
- Patience: "More than reasonable."
- Patience: Aliken shells out for her own room.
- KajaRainbow: "You can stable up your mule across the street. I've an arrangement with them."
- KajaRainbow: "Your story sounds a most unusual one," the elf says with an arced eyebrow.
- zeaob: "When's this hunt supposed to be anyhow?"
- Patience: How late is it?
- KajaRainbow: Not late enough you couldn't check out the town a little.
- nekoincchan: This is good for Rin, who knows that the kind of thing she's seeking tends to only crop up around the time the Night Watches come out.
- zebuloncrispi: (oh shoot sorry got distracted)
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa will pay for her own room asw ell.
- KajaRainbow: So, there're the booksellers and apparently the dungeon board. Anything else you would like to check?
- nekoincchan: Rin goes straight for the booksellers
- KajaRainbow: "Now," the elf says.
- Patience: Aliken will be looking to resupply on travelling rations after she sells off the books that she's selling, and, depending on how flush with cash she is after all this, she MIGHT look for an armorsmith.
- nekoincchan: Rin will poke through the sellers, getting some seemingly good offers while formulating her actual plan...
- zeaob: "Then lead the way."
- nekoincchan: Then finally returning to one store in particular. She had a plan to get a better payoff for the entire party's books.
- KajaRainbow: The offers range from about 300 to about 450 for your looted books (with the rarer or more expensively decorated books making up the bulk of the price), though most of them have no offers for the Allspider tract or the burning letters book. You do get the suggestion to bring those to the Spire.
- Patience: "What exactly is the Spire? We're new in the area..."
- KajaRainbow: That being the extremely tall tower in the midst of town.
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa: "This spider tract is proving unexpectedly interesting."
- Patience: "Obviously that. But, uh, what *is* it?"
- nekoincchan: After a while, Rin goes to the offer of 450, moving to pass the books to the bookseller... And carefully stinging their hand with a nail full of Goldenroot when their hand and hers are both covered by the book.
- KajaRainbow: (Also, I'm getting a headache and so likely will have to retire soon.)
- nekoincchan: (If successful, they'll see her as a trusted ally and probably offer her a better deal)
- nekoincchan: (If not... She has a backup plan)
- Patience: (*snugs* Let's call it, then. Thanks for the fun!)
- nekoincchan: (Which check do you want?)
- nekoincchan: (Yeah, I agree, call it if you're tiring out and let's continue later ^_^)
- zeaob: (Definitely can continue later!)
- KajaRainbow: Such subtlety would likely require using your tricks. Roll +Dex.
- nekoincchan: nekoincchan rolled 2 6-sided dice: 3 3
- nekoincchan: (+2 = 8)
- KajaRainbow: (Pick two of suspicion, danger, or cost.)
- nekoincchan: (Suspicion/cost?)
- KajaRainbow: (Okay, I'll report the results next session.)
- Patience: OK!
- Patience: Thank you again, Kaja.
- KajaRainbow: (Sorry for the cliffhanger, but I need to break.)
- nekoincchan: (Rest well!)
- Patience: Absolutely understood.
- zebuloncrispi: all right
- zebuloncrispi: good night

- Patience: Hello!
- zebuloncrispi: hello
- Patience: I am saddened that we have lost our grumpiest member.
- KajaRainbow: Not quite yet.
- KajaRainbow: Close to the end of this month, from my understanding.
- Patience: Ahh.
- nekoincchan: Yeah. :<
- zebuloncrispi: eh?
- Patience: AOB will not be able to stay with us much longer.
- KajaRainbow: Oh, I didn't get a chance to talk to you, Prof. Apparently AOB's college schedule will preclude him from making it this next semester.
- KajaRainbow: But from the sounds of it, he might be able to return after the semester.
- zebuloncrispi: ah
- nekoincchan: ... Our new invitee is apparently fighting with AIM
- Patience: Eek.
- KajaRainbow: Yeah.
- * nekoincchan sighs. Is there not one medium we can all freaking use?! >_o
- Patience: We could play by telegraph? Bah. >.o
- *** chimeraman2 has joined the conversation.
- zebuloncrispi: hello
- chimeraman2: 'llo
- Patience: Hello!
- KajaRainbow: AOB's being slow to respond, but his ranger's off romping in the wilderness anyway.
- Patience: A pleasure to meet you.
- nekoincchan: o/
- zebuloncrispi: I am Prof, playing Golasa, blindfolded grumpwizard extraordinaire
- nekoincchan: I am Inc, playing Rin, Human(?) Rogue.
- nekoincchan: But then I hope you know me given we spent what 3 hours talking about stuff for Nanohagame last night? :P
- Patience: I'm Nathan, playing Aliken, a clever and learned dwarven fighter.
- chimeraman2: And we RPed together years ago on Crosswars, and I avidly followed your work for d20r, and we hang out in the same channel :-P
- chimeraman2: Well then! I suppose I should introduce myself before getting buddy buddy with Inc
- chimeraman2: I'm Nine, playing Damien, the crazy Kobold of blasty goodness.
- Patience: Are kobolds reptilian, or doglike, or what, here?
- chimeraman2: Mix of reptiles, dogs, and rats, afaik
- chimeraman2: more reptillian with dog and rat features than vice versa
- zebuloncrispi: what class?
- KajaRainbow: Spellslinger, a homebrew from the SA thread.
- zebuloncrispi: competition
- zebuloncrispi: also oh shit I loved the Spellslinger writeup
- Patience: Huh.
- zebuloncrispi: they're Clint Eastwood with wands instead of revolvers
- Patience: I'm curious to see.
- chimeraman2: I have the worst charisma ever
- zebuloncrispi: this is probably good for me, it'll force me to take a more Ritual Caster take on Golasa to avoid repeating nicches
- zebuloncrispi: ahaha both the casters are assholes
- KajaRainbow: Alright, guys, you ready to start?
- Patience: I'm ready!
- nekoincchan: ready
- zebuloncrispi: sure
- chimeraman2: Ready!
- chimeraman2: Though, I'm kind of moving around a bit and aiming to gwt some food, so I'll be slow.
- KajaRainbow: It'll take a bit to get to introduce your character anyay.
- chimeraman2: That's fine
- KajaRainbow: Rin, the gnomish shopkeeper has a sorta quizzical "What was that?" expression on her large-nosed face as you prick her. She looks at you confusedly.
- zebuloncrispi: (Remind me what we were doing.)
- Patience: (Rin is trying to cheat a shopkeeper for selling books. :<)
- KajaRainbow: (Selling books. Rin decided to dose a shopkeeper up with friendship drugs to try to get a better deal.)
- zebuloncrispi: (Ah yes, drugs.)
- zebuloncrispi: (Golasa supports.)
- nekoincchan: Rin smiles a bit, shrugging easily. "S-sorry. Slipped."
- Inwardly, her thoughts are something like this: "BLUFF BLUFF BLUFF BLUFF BLUFF"
- Patience: (If Aliken notices this, she will not be happy. >.>)
- KajaRainbow: "Geezus, you really should be more careful."
- nekoincchan: "S-sorry," Rin says, sighing. "I'll try to work on them in a bit here."
- chimeraman2: (... Is anyone male in this party?)
- nekoincchan: (AoB's character was!)
- zebuloncrispi: (Actually if Bradigans leaving, then no)
- zebuloncrispi: (Congratulations, new Token Dude)
- chimeraman2: (Okay, my character just spontaneously turned female)
- zebuloncrispi: (OR NOT)
- Patience: (... hahahaha.)
- chimeraman2: (I predict a brothel infiltration sequence)
- nekoincchan: (XD)
- zebuloncrispi: (That would be an unmitigated disaster with Golasa in the party)
- zebuloncrispi: (This does not mean we shouldn't do it)
- *** KajaRainbow has left the conversation.
- *** KajaRainbow has joined the conversation.
- KajaRainbow: ((Connection hiccup.))
- Patience: (Welcome back, Kaja.)
- Patience: (What's the last you saw? I can copy/paste.)
- KajaRainbow: ((Been having those the past few days, as well as an occasional brownout.))
- Patience: (Ewww.)
- KajaRainbow: "So, 450, was it?" She seems to be smiling a little more than before.
- nekoincchan: (Remind me what the first offer was? ^^;)
- KajaRainbow: (450. But you can probably talk her higher now.)
- nekoincchan: "I have an offer for 500... But the place seemed kinda skeezy. I don't like getting stiffed with counterfeits or the like, after all."
- KajaRainbow: "Oh, yes, there're some bad stores in this town. I can match that, and I can guarantee my money's good for it."
- nekoincchan: "That'd work excellently, then!", Rin says. Not a heavy push, if she were able to really think beyond "BLUFF BLUFF BLUFF" right now she'd probably have tried for more, but perfectly reasonable results, overall. Of course, her share of the difference might have to go to some resources now, but... Oh well.
- KajaRainbow: So, folks, you've got your 500 gold.
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa: "That was some easy haggling."
- Patience: When Rin returns with the proceeds, Aliken grins. She is immediately planning to go out and buy a new shield. Losing her old shield to the runebeast was painful.
- nekoincchan: Rin is totally <3~ and yay about managing to pull a fast one.
- Patience: Aliken is blissfully unaware of Rin pulling a fast one.
- nekoincchan: Rin: "Give a girl time, and she can get a deal. That's the beauty of economics!"
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa half-suspects something, but doesn't especially care either way.
- zebuloncrispi: are we splitting that 500 three ways or four?
- Patience: Presumably four.
- Patience: One would think.
- nekoincchan: (Let's assume, if AoB is never able to show up again, we pass him his share offscreen, and Nine starts with extra money on his char to balance?)
- zebuloncrispi: (Sounds good! So 125c each.)
- Patience: (I need to replace my shield, as noted.)
- KajaRainbow: (Noted.)
- zebuloncrispi: There is... very little Golasa needs money for, actually.
- Patience: And spending a few days to read, relax, and make sure we're in top form before we head off wouldn't be amiss. We had a great victory, Aliken has books to read, and we can see if we can figure out nearby dungeons to hit.
- zebuloncrispi: so instead she will spend 100 coins on rare spell components, to use at a later time as a Chekov's Gun for Rituals.
- nekoincchan: Rin... Well, she's going to slip aorund, getting town information and figuring out where she can go to get some poison doses of a few different poisons for her to 'store'
- nekoincchan: (I... Actually dunno what the rules are for buying poison doses so x__X;)
- nekoincchan: (Oh, there they are. NM.)
- KajaRainbow: Rin and Golasa, your inquiries both take you to a certain disreputable alchemist. Do you happen to run into each other?
- zebuloncrispi: Yes!
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa hasn't noticed yet, though.
- KajaRainbow: Aliken, there seem to be few of your people here, so you'll have to settle for a shield not of dwarven make. Still, the armorsmith claims to be just as good as the dwarves.
- nekoincchan: Rin chooses not to mention it too loudly, though frankly Golasa KNOWS Rin's a thief and is at least capable of working with poisons
- Patience: One does what one must.
- zebuloncrispi: Eventually, as she's taking a closer look at the jewel oils, she does pick up on Rin's presence by proximity.
- zebuloncrispi: "Here to replace whatever it is you used on that shopkeeper?"
- * nekoincchan glares at Golasa.
- zebuloncrispi: She doesn't see it.
- nekoincchan: (... Right. Don't /me. DOn't /me.)
- nekoincchan: "G'evening," she says, ignoring Golasa entirely for that remark. "Need to get my hands on some standard ingredients. What's your prices on Oil of Tagit and Serpent's Tears?" She's straightforward, in part because both of these are commonly used for legitimate alchemical and medicinal purposes most likely.
- KajaRainbow: A husky voice from behind the walled off counter whispers a price ever so slightly above the standard.
- KajaRainbow: (Make that hoary.)
- nekoincchan: Rin pauses, quickly estimating how much 2 doses of each would cost. (STandard total price would be 50.)
- chimeraman2: (I was like... Someone REALLY enjoys their job.)
- KajaRainbow: (In this case, they're quoting a price of 60.)
- nekoincchan: "I know that isn't the standard rate," Rin responded. "45 total is what you'll get."
- (Charisma check for negotiations?)
- KajaRainbow: (Sure.)
- nekoincchan: nekoincchan rolled 2 6-sided dice: 5 1
- nekoincchan: (8.)
- KajaRainbow: "53. Take it or leave it."
- nekoincchan: ".... Very well."
- KajaRainbow: Strange gnarled hands visible just inside the slot in the walled off counter swiftly pours and mixes the compounds, then slides the vials across.
- KajaRainbow: They're rather gray. Are those claws?
- nekoincchan: Rin inspects them using her knowledge to make sure they're proper doses. She's not gonna judge the guy off how he looks... Yet.
- KajaRainbow: They look to be of proper dosage and quality.
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa selects four minute vials - one each of Sapphire Oil, Emerald Oil, Amethyst Oil and Diamond Oil - and puts them on the alchemist's counter wordlessly.
- KajaRainbow: "Hundred," the voice replies to Golasa.
- nekoincchan: Rin steps out, for now.
- zebuloncrispi: She grits her teeth at a price higher than she was expecting, but decides to fork it over rather than get into an argument over it. Haggling isn't her strong suit.
- KajaRainbow: Aliken, what destination shall you set out for yourself? There's the Tower with its reputedly odd scholars, the Dungeon Board which's supposed to be a wellspring of information on the local dungeons, or the bars and inns surroundings the Board which seem to be major adventurer hangouts. Or anything else Aliken might be looking for.
- Patience: She'll visit the Spire, then, and see what she can learn. And see if anybody can help her with more information on the fanged book.
- KajaRainbow: What about you, Golasa and Rin?
- zebuloncrispi: Oh oh Golasa's going there, too. Didn't someone say they might be interested in the spider tract?
- nekoincchan: (I'm... Trying to think where Rin is going next, what kinds of equipment she might pursue besides saving up for a magic bag or the like)
- zebuloncrispi: you could check out the dungeons for us!
- zebuloncrispi: or join us in the spider.
- zebuloncrispi: spire.
- nekoincchan: Rin decides to go with Golasa for now
- zebuloncrispi: I need to get rid of that tract.
- KajaRainbow: At the very base of the unimaginably tall tower stands a set of gates constructed out of... are those pearls?
- Patience: Are there guards or a gatekeeper or anything?
- KajaRainbow: They stand open, and inside lounges behind a desk a unremarkable looking halfing clerk with red hair.
- KajaRainbow: The room feels claustrophobically small and cramped. It's as if the walls crowd in on you.
- Patience: Aliken nods to the clerk. "I'm here to try and meet with the scholars, if I can."
- KajaRainbow: "Report your matter of enqiury."
- Patience: Aliken hauls the fanged book out of her pack. "I'm looking to share this discovery with whoever might be interested, and see if I can learn more from a specialist."
- KajaRainbow: "Slide it in front of the eye." The clerk points at a stylized eye painted onto the desk.
- Patience: Aliken does so, regarding the eye curiously.
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa adds the Allspider Tract to the pile.
- KajaRainbow: The clerk says, "Your answer shall be forthcoming soon. Next." He nods at the Tract.
- Patience: Aliken frowns a little.
- KajaRainbow: Then he pulls open a drawer on the desk and takes out a piece of paper. "Ah. The Fourth Discipline will be seeing you."
- zebuloncrispi: would Golasa know what the Fourth Discipline is?
- KajaRainbow: That sounds like Sprout Lore to me. Roll +Int.
- zebuloncrispi: ZebulonCrispi rolled 2 6-sided dice: 4 5
- zebuloncrispi: That's like a 12 or 13, I haven't added up all my bonuses.
- zebuloncrispi: Enough that I won't use my bag of books.
- Patience: //roll
- nathanweismuller: NathanWeismuller rolled 2 6-sided dice: 3 5
- zebuloncrispi: so 13.
- Patience: 10 here, as well.
- KajaRainbow: The people of the Spire are a secretive lot, but they seem to be leading authorities on strange and outerworldly things. There's talk of a Master and a number of Disciplines, but no one knows what the Master looks like if they exist. The Disciplines're said to appreciate bittersweet offerings.
- Patience: (Disciple, I think you mean.)
- Patience: 'Bittersweet offerings'?
- zebuloncrispi: Nah, looks like Discipline to me
- KajaRainbow: (I meant Disciples, yes. Sorry.)
- zebuloncrispi: oh.
- nekoincchan: Rin's finally figured out her goal - the item she will seek to pursue. One (1) Bag of Holding. She knows she can't afford it yet, but such a thing of beauty...
- KajaRainbow: As for the 'bittersweet offerings', that appears to be whatever they judge as being such. The easiest thing'd a certain honeyed but strongcoffee that's said to be served at a couple of nearby bars.
- Patience: "Very well. When is my appointment?"
- Patience: Aliken plans to buy coffee, then.
- KajaRainbow: "Today.."
- zebuloncrispi: "Well that's convenient."
- Patience: "I will return shortly with an offering for the Disciple, then." And Aliken proceeds to go buy coffee for the scholar.
- zebuloncrispi: Yes. Coffee would be ideal, for this lot.
- zebuloncrispi: What's the cost?
- KajaRainbow: It just so happen that an alteration is taking place at the first place you try.
- chimeraman2: *altercation
- KajaRainbow: (yes, thank you. That is kinda one of my weaknesses. >.>)
- KajaRainbow: (So corrections always appreciated.)
- chimeraman2: (You're welcome. *can't tell if sarcasm*)
- Patience: (It's serious, I'm her boyfriend, I know she wants corrections. *nods*)
- Patience: What's going on, exactly?
- chimeraman2: (... Inc, save me)
- chimeraman2: As Aliken steps into the bar the first impression is Noise followed by an earthen mug shattering against the door frame beside her. The place is apparently in the midst of a brawl, though the bar tender doesn't seem to be doing much to stop it. In the center of the conflict (which is, like most tavern brawls, impossible to accurately break down into a nice list of participants) there appears to bbe a small lizard person strangling a goblin using the handiest weapon nearby: namely the four foot long beard of a dwarf that is actively trying to not allow this goblin to chew off his nose.
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa interposes Aliken between the heart of the chaos and herself.
- zebuloncrispi: Dodging mugs is not her specialty.
- Patience: Aliken sighs, then folds her arms. She is NOT getting involved in this nonsense. She looks around to see if there is any way she could get to the bar without risking getting assaulted on the way.
- zebuloncrispi: If only I had learned Sleep.
- KajaRainbow: There just might be a path if you're up for a little dodging and ducking.
- KajaRainbow: Or just muscling your way through.
- Patience: Dodging and ducking is not Aliken's specialty. She strides forward with a purpose, daring anybody to hinder her.
- KajaRainbow: Darnian, roll +Str to see how successfully you get a good choke on the goblin. Aliken, roll +Str as well.
- Patience: //roll
- nathanweismuller: NathanWeismuller rolled 2 6-sided dice: 5 2
- KajaRainbow: ((Reminder: the syntax is //roll ))
- Patience: 9.
- chimeraman2: chimeraman2 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 5 6
- chimeraman2: 11?
- Patience: ((What's your STR bonus?))
- chimeraman2: 0, cause I shoot things not punch them
- Patience: ((Then 11, yes.))
- KajaRainbow: Okay, Darnian, you've got the beard wrapped nicely, and he looks to be passing out. Aliken, you get some nasty elbowing and bruises on your way, but you manage to clear a way through if the others care to follow.
- chimeraman2: ((Minor note. That's an M not an RN)
- KajaRainbow: (Ah, thanks. I misread it.)
- chimeraman2: (No worries~)
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa's just gonna hang out by the door for now.
- Patience: "Two honeyed coffees, please. To take out."
- chimeraman2: Damian waits until the goblin actually passes out before making an attempt to slip her way from the middle of the brawl back to the edges. Noticing the individual(s) that are avoiding the conflict near the door, not recognizing them, and taking in their adventurer look, she heads over in her quest for more data!
- KajaRainbow: The bartender takes a pot out of the fireplace and pours the steaming black fluid into a canteen, into which he stirs some honey with a long-necked spoon. He pours a couple of other flasks in as well.
- Patience: "Thank you. How much?"
- KajaRainbow: "Two gold."
- Patience: Aliken pulls out the gold, and walks back out, making sure the canteen is tightly sealed.
- KajaRainbow: But what shall you do about the kobold approaching you?
- nekoincchan: Rin... Is totally staying outside during all this. Bar brawls are NOT her thing. :|
- zebuloncrispi: Which of us is she approaching?
- chimeraman2: Golasa's the one Damian noticed.
- zebuloncrispi: Well, someone crawling towards her out of a bar brawl sounds like trouble! Golasa points the end of her staff at the kobold as a warning gesture.
- zebuloncrispi: "I'm not getting involved with this brawl, and you're not bringing it to me."
- Patience: Aliken shoulders her way back out of the brawl, looking sour-faced. "You owe me two gold, Golasa, I'll have you know."
- Patience: "... this one giving you trouble?"
- zebuloncrispi: "He said it was two gold. Shouldn't I owe you one?"
- Patience: "Which of us did the work of crossing the brawl?"
- chimeraman2: "Oh, no, you guys just look like you came out of a dungeon, and I'm supposed to be researching them for my master, so I figure getting an interview would be helpful to my cause. My master's not too keen on sending his servants to die futile deaths in an effort to get data, especially since we're not traditionally dungeon delvers."
- Patience: "And I'm afraid we have an appointment we need to get to."
- zebuloncrispi: "Don't you enjoy crossing battlefields? You're the fighter."
- nekoincchan: Rin just is kinda staring at the kobold.
- Patience: Aliken just stares at Golasa coldly.
- zebuloncrispi: She gets that a lot.
- zebuloncrispi: Fine, have your two gold.
- zebuloncrispi: "What's in it for us, kobold?"
- Patience: "Thank you."
- chimeraman2: "Just looking at you three, you seem to be missing someone. You've got the tank, the sneak, and the mage, but it looks to me like you're missing someone who's good at killing things. Of course, if you'd rather I not accompany you, I could pay for the information with a bit of gold."
- nekoincchan: "A-hem."
- nekoincchan: Rin is totally glaring at hte Kobold for questioning her ability to kill things now.
- chimeraman2: "You're the sneak. How well do you kill things without having someone there to distract them?"
- Patience: "So, apparently my abilities at violence are being questioned?"
- zebuloncrispi: "We could use another warm body, you two. Especially if Bradigan doesn't come back from one of his wilderness romps."
- Patience: "He didn't even say where he'd meet us, this time, did he?"
- zebuloncrispi: "Well, he is a ranger. He's probably counting on his ability to track us by scent or something."
- chimeraman2: "Actually, I'm cold blooded."
- zebuloncrispi: "Nitpick."
- Patience: "That said, we have an appointment to get to. Maybe you can talk to this fine individual, Rin, and see if we can come to any arrangements."
- zebuloncrispi: "I second this notion. We've got tomes to sell."
- nekoincchan: Rin sighs. "Right, right."
- nekoincchan: (... And I have to AFK for food for like 15 minutes >.o)
- chimeraman2: (I propose that the party go on ahead and Neko and I have our characters work out favorable terms off screen!)
- zebuloncrispi: I second this notion. We've got tomes to sell.
- Patience: Well, at least one tome to sell.
- zebuloncrispi: So, back to the Spire we go!
- KajaRainbow: When you return, the clerk gestures you up the stairs winding out the right side of the room. There's a similar set leading out the left side.
- zebuloncrispi: I keep typoing it as Spider. I think it's an omen.
- zebuloncrispi: Well, let's do what the nice halfling says.
- Patience: Aliken mounts up the right stairs. No need to cause trouble.
- KajaRainbow: Just round the bend, as the entrance disappears out of sight, the stairs end in a door covered with painted-on outlines of hands.
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa takes the lead. This is wizard country, after all. Door open.
- KajaRainbow: Wind blows as you pull open the door and come out onto a balcony with a dizzyingly high overview of the city. It really doesn't feel like you ascended that far.
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa clutches her hood to keep it from blowing back.
- zebuloncrispi: "Hello?"
- KajaRainbow: And a troll in an expensive looking outfit turns around. He says, "You have the books."
- Patience: "I have the book about the Barbed Library. I was interested in seeing if an expert would know any more on the subject."
- KajaRainbow: "Have you an offering?
- zebuloncrispi: "We do."
- zebuloncrispi: So she says, but Aliken's the one with the coffees.
- Patience: Aliken holds out the canteen.
- KajaRainbow: The troll pours out the canteen's contents into a couple of mugs. He sips at one. "Knowledge has a price, especially knowledge of the Barbed Library. I have heard much of its treasures, but I have also heard of many whom suffered."
- KajaRainbow: "The Allspider book... ah. What do you wish to do with it?"
- Patience: "The book hinted at risks."
- zebuloncrispi: "I'd mainly like to get it off my hands."
- KajaRainbow: "Mm, yes.. If you merely wish it off your hands, bathe it in the blood of spiders. If you wish to profit from this, chain it down during this, and then bring it back to me bound and immobile.
- KajaRainbow: "The chains should be pure."
- zebuloncrispi: "I'll need to find some very large spiders."
- nekoincchan: (Oh god this is our next Dungeon isn't it)
- chimeraman2: (Spiders? I hate Spiders. Why is it always Spiders? Why can't it ever be, like, butterflies?)
- nekoincchan: (Giant butterflies would be more disturbing)
- Patience: "Is there anything of substance you can tell me about the Barbed Library?"
- Patience: (You getting tired, Kaja?)
- chimeraman2: (I'm gonna assume from the ongoing silence that there's a yes in there somewhere)
- Patience: (Indeed.)
- chimeraman2: (See y'all next week. Neko knows where to find me if he needs me)
- Patience: (OK!)

- Patience: I exist!
- zebuloncrispi: can you prove it
- zebuloncrispi: you could just be a highly advanced chatbot
- Patience: ...
- Patience: Augh! I'm just a chatbot! ;_;
- zebuloncrispi: that was easier than I was expecting it to be
- nekoincchan: (.... :V)
- KajaRainbow: Nine, it seems, might not exist. AOB does not, as he had to go deal with some transfer application thing.
- nekoincchan: Nine is not on the chatroom he and I are usually both on so he may have unexpected things taking time up
- * Patience suffers from an existential crisis.
- KajaRainbow: If Nine doesn't show soon, I might just go grab some sleep. Or work around their absence.
- zebuloncrispi: Either works
- zebuloncrispi: but Nine's character is pretty crucial now if she wants to become part of the party
- KajaRainbow: Yeah.
- nekoincchan: Especially if we want to get to the next dungeon...
- Patience: Sleep might be good if you need it, Kaja.
- KajaRainbow: I'm kinda eager to progress, but I'm not going to run without them.
- nekoincchan: Probably a wise choice, but....
- * nekoincchan sighs. >_o
- KajaRainbow: Eh. I think I'll run. Just assume Nine's kobold's on board.
- zebuloncrispi: ok
- nekoincchan: All right.
- Patience: OK, then.
- KajaRainbow: "The danger doesn't lie in the nature of the Barbed Library, but in the nature of its books. It makes no distinction between safe and unsafe books, and the unsafe books can have many peculiar effects. But it has books difficult to find or even unavailable elsewhere. Try seeking to employ a reader."
- Patience: "Is it known how people have found the Barbed Library before?"
- KajaRainbow: "Or seek safety measures."
- KajaRainbow: "Either wait for it, or find a way through the outer worlds."
- KajaRainbow: ((Also, you looking to unload that book with the burning letters?))
- Patience: (Was that one of Golasa's?)
- Patience: "Thank you for your assistance."
- KajaRainbow: (yeah.)
- zebuloncrispi: Sure, let's add it to the pile.
- KajaRainbow: "Hm." The Disciple turns the pages of the burning book. "You should know I do not deal in gold. I can offer you items of interest, however."
- zebuloncrispi: "Whose interest?"
- nekoincchan: (Rin's off-camera dealing with the Kobold still, correct?)
- KajaRainbow: "A satchel with more within it than it should hold. A wheel sympathetically linked to the last world it's been within. A map that shows unknown territory. Or a book for a book. This one with endless pages, for notetaking."
- zebuloncrispi: Hmm.
- nekoincchan: Rin would love the bag, if it were her choice. But she's off dealing with the Kobold so she doesn't really have the chance to say that
- zebuloncrispi: Indeed, and Golasa's priorities are different.
- zebuloncrispi: "I'll take the last one. A sympathetic connection to the concept of infinity could be a vaulable ritual component."
- KajaRainbow: "Ah, hoh. Yes, it might be. I use mine for the more mundane purpose of notetaking, but it's just as you say. I'll provide you my spare." The Discipline snaps his fingers and whispers something, and soon enough a young boy in a servant's uniform much like that of the clerk down below comes running up holding a book.
- zebuloncrispi: Golasa holds out a hand expectantly.
- KajaRainbow: The cover feels oddly deeply extured, and it's covered with swirling designs within swirls.
- zebuloncrispi: She gives a satisfied nod and flips through it a bit to verify that it seems the Disciple is telling the truth about its capabilities before handing over the burning book.
- zebuloncrispi: "Pleasure doing business with you."
- KajaRainbow: "Now I shall enjoy my coffee, as I believe all our business is concluded."
- zebuloncrispi: "Might as well be. We're keeping Rin waiting."
- Patience: "Indeed. My thanks."
- Patience: Aliken rises and bows, turning back for the stairs.
- KajaRainbow: (Nine's back, but my invites don't seem to be going through.)
- KajaRainbow: (Everyone okay with IRC? Prof, do you mind firing up your dicebot?)
- zebuloncrispi: sure, gimme a sec
- Patience: IRC is fine.
- nekoincchan: Gamesurge?
- KajaRainbow: Sure.
- Patience: OK, what's the server and channel?
- KajaRainbow: irc.gamesurge.net
- zebuloncrispi: freenode, #lordsofdungeons
- zebuloncrispi: oh
- zebuloncrispi: OK then
- KajaRainbow: And, yup, #lordsofdungeons
- KajaRainbow: I just went with the first one suggested.
