Human Right Act 1998
Everyone’s right to life shall be protected by law.
Sex discrimination act 1975
This prevents the discrimination in areas of:

Race Relation Act 2000
It is unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of:
•	Race
•	Colour
•	Nationality
•	Ethnic origin
It applies to – jobs, training, housing, education, services.
Disability Discrimination Act 1995
Protects disabled people in:
•	Employment
•	Access
•	Managements, buying or renting, land or property
•	Education
Age Relation Act 2006
This is when an employee is discriminated against by an employer on the grounds of age.
This applies to an employee under 65.
COSHH – control of substances hazardous to health 2002
Using hazardous substances that can put people’s health at risk.
Hazardous substances include –
•	Oxidising agents
•	Explosion
•	Toxic
•	Flammable
•	Radioactive
•	Corrosive
•	Harmful
•	Harmful to environment
Or anything that can harm your health at work.
Electricity At Work Act 1989
 This ensures all electrical items are safe and are checked on a regular basis.
People carrying out the testing must be qualified.
Installation of equipment must be approved to be signed off.
It is the management responsibility to employ people who are qualified to install, repair and maintain all electrical equipment on site.
Lifting operations and lifting equipment regulation (LOLER) 1998
Covers:
•	Cranes
•	Lifts
•	Hoists
•	Chains, ropes, slings
•	Hooks, shackles, eyebolt, rope and pulley systems
•	Forklift trucks
Suitable risks assessment must be made.
Must be checked before used.
Suitable strength for load being lifted.
