  1. Pokémon Crystal - Entei% Glitchless FAQ
  2.
  3. *** What are you trying to do ? ***
  4. I'm trying to finish Pokémon Crystal as fast as possible with Entei, without using glitches.
  5.
  6. *** Why do you start with Totodile ? ***
  7. Just like in Any% Glitchless, Totodile/Croconow has the fastest start thanks to its type, its bulky stats and its moveset (Rage & Fury Cutter really help).
  8.
  9. *** How do you get Entei then ? ***
  10. After defeating the Rival in Burned Tower (Ecruteak City), you unleash the Legendary Dogs. Afterwards, Entei and Raikou can be found in the wild if you're lucky enough. This run attempts to manipulate 2 different Enteis with sensibly similar stats and Hidden Power.
  11.
  12. *** Why do you manipulate 2 Enteis instead of one ? ***
  13. The setup to find a Legendary Dog in Crystal requires to follow a specific setup among which you need to deathwarp from Burned Tower B1F, then hard reset before you exit Ecruteak City. This is because as soon as the Legendary Dogs are unleashed, they each go to a starting Route, and they change their location each time you change yours. (That's why we also call them Roamers).
  14. By Hard Resetting at a very specific second of the current RTC minute, you open the way to manipulating where the Dogs go and, with a specific Gen IV-like movement, what the stats of the Roamers will be.
  15. That's also why i manipulate 2 Enteis because of 1 : the manipulation being semi-consistent in Gen II, it's expected to Hard Reset multiple times before finding the Roamer i want. The Enteis i manipulate are noted as RTC 0 & RTC 30, since i don't want to wait a full minute between each Entei manipulation.
  16.
  17. *** RTC ? What's this ? I'm lost ... ***
  18. RTC (Real Time Clock) is a cartridge timer that is supposed to track for how long you've been playing your current savefile overall. It's different from IGT (In Game Time), because RTC starts running as soon as you turn on the GameBoy/Emulator, while IGT starts when you Continue your savefile, or when you can move after hitting New Game.
  19. The bad thing about RTC is that it changes the RNG in game.
  20. I described my 2 Enteis as being RTC 0 or RTC 30. RTC 0 is the target Entei from when i Hard Reset when the RTC reaches 0 seconds (any minute, any hour), while RTC 30 is the one when i Hard Reset when RTC reaches 30 seconds (still any minute, any hour). This is to double the number of available tries to get a good Entei.
  21.
  22. *** How do you catch Entei ? ***
  23. This runs also manipulates the Lottery and the TrainerID in order for them to match entirely. This allows us to get a free Master Ball in Goldenrod City Radio Tower.
  24. The Lottery manipulation is slightly different than Gen IV : in Gen II, you need to clear a savefile to erase the current value of the LotteryID. Then you manipulate a 1st specific TrainerID from the New Game screen, linked to a single specific LotteryID. (Both TrainerID and Lottery ID are generated by pair).
  25. If i hit the correct TrainerID when resetting, then i know what the LotteryID will be. I can now just reset the game over to manipulate a TrainerID that is identical to the LotteryID i manipulated. (the LotteryID stays in the memory the second reset, because i didn't clear a save : once the LotteryID is set, it doesn't change before you wipe a savefile again, or the game changes Day)
  26.
  27. *** What are the stats you manipulate ? ***
  28. The DVs of the Enteis are as follows :
  29. * RTC 0 => 10 Attack, 10 Defense, 6 Speed, 11 Special / Hidden Power Grass 65
  30. * RTC 30 => 14 Attack, 6 Defense, 12 Speed, 10 Special / Hidden Power Grass 60
  31.
  32. *** What are DVs ? What is Hidden Power ? ***
  33. DVs are hidden stats that orientate the growth of a Pokemon. There's a single value for each stat (Attack, Defense, Speed, Special as both Special Attack & Special Defense DVs are gathered in a single value) that goes from 0 to 15. 0 being bad, and 15 being amazing.
  34. For a specific Pokémon, having 15 DV Attack means that at level 100, it will have 30 more Attack points than the same species with 0 DV Attack.
  35. Hidden Power is a TM given in Lake of Rage that Type and Base Power vary according to your DVs. The 2 Enteis have DVs in such a pattern that both Hidden Powers are Grass type with decent Base Power.
