Walking home with her 12-year-old daughter after midnight on the Fourth of July, Teena crosses paths with some local losers to be brutally gang raped with her daughter Bethie watching. Bethie is able to identify the rapists, but when the rapists hire a hot shot attorney who attacks Teena's character, Dromoor, a local police officer who was first on the scene when police were called, starts to take matters into his own hands.
A gulf war veteran seeks vengeance against those who assaulted a single mother.
This is literally the first time I've ever felt the need to write a review WHILE the movie is still playing on my tv. The courtroom scene alone did it in for me. A woman brutally raped by 4 men. Her daughter a witness (almost a victim herself) identifies the rapists. And at NO point during the trial did it even remotely look like anyone was on her side. From a jack@$$ judge to a lawyer making up ridiculous stories that are simply...believed without question. And to top it off...the entire courtroom applauds?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Then, instead of laying low, the rapists continue to antagonize and reek havoc like they're untouchable. Even loudly admitting to their crime. I've always liked Nicolas Cage, but he lost a ton of credibility for even touching this bs fest.
Unfortunately the title of this review has been heard way too much over the last few years. I gave this film a chance because Nicholas cage used to be a big star but I think those days are truly behind us. The premise of the film sees a cop go after a group of individuals who assault a woman. As mentioned before Nicholas cage plays the lead in this film and when he is in full vigilante mode he is really cool and kind of like an older punisher dealing out justice. However, when he actually has to act his character is so bland and boring and you won't care and will just be waiting for the slightly cool part. The little girl is excellent in this film and she is easily the best character in this film, I hope we see her in more films in the future. But the rest of the cast is cliché and exactly what you expect and it makes this film very boring to watch and extremely predictable. The story as mentioned before is very predictable and with the majority of mediocre performances not enough to sell this film. The script is completely mediocre as well as the drama doesn't hit as much as it should for a film like this and there is no humour in this film even though Nicholas cage is in the film. The style of the film has some pretty cool action scenes towards the end of the film, also the style of the film does a decent job of emphasising the serious subject matter. The pacing of this film though is so slow and after the 20 minute mark I would be surprised if anybody cared enough to wait for the slightly cooler parts. Overall this is a bad film that shouldn't be seen and I hope nic cage does better sometime soon.
