112.
Kaaras Taashath Adaar

 113.
Kaaras Taashath Adaar(born 4 Haring 9:12 Dragon) is a qunari belonging to the Beres-taar Mercenary Company and the Inquisitor in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

 114.
Background

 115.
Kaaras was born in Starkhaven after his parents fled the Qun on learning his mother was pregnant with him. Fearing re-education or worse at the hands of the Ben-Hassrath, Kaaras' family moved from the Free Marches south to Ferelden. They found an abandoned farmstead and raised Kaaras there. In addition to raising Fereldan rams, Kaaras' father worked odd jobs when possible, but anti-Qunari sentiments ran high in rural Ferelden where most people had never heard of Qunari, let alone seen one.

 116.
Kaaras' magic manifested at age five, prompting his parents to move to the Southron Hills, where they again attempted to settle. Though they were always on the lookout for someone who could train Kaaras without kidnapping him to a Circle, his parents were unsuccessful until an accidental magical display in the nearby town at Market Day drew the attention of Saarebas (Inquisition). Despite having nothing to offer Saarebas other than food and lodging when the Tal-Vashoth was in the area, Saarebas trained Kaaras without reservation.

 117.

 118. At age ten, Kaaras' family adopted a Dalish child by the name of Aith. After recovering from her wounds, Aith revealed that she, at her age of seven, had been sexually assaulted by the Templars taking her to Kinloch Hold. Though the adoption was unofficial, Aith took the name Adaar and was a full member of the family.

 119.
Tragedy struck the family in 9:24 Dragon when a group of bandits attacked their home. Kaaras' father died defending his family, leaving him to assume his place as head of the family. Being that Saarebas was the only one capable of calming Kaaras down, she spent more time with the ragtag family, teaching the children magic and training them for combat to prevent any more loss. When Kaaras turned eighteen, she offered him a place in the Ash Ataash Mercenary Company. In part to seek revenge for his father's murder, Kaaras accepted, with Aith joining despite being three years younger.

 120.
 121.
When the Ash Ataash Mercenary Company outgrew the work available in Ferelden, they moved to the Free Marches with Starkhaven as their main base of operations. There, the mercenaries were approached by the Valo-Kas Mercenary Company. The two groups merged rather than compete over jobs, leading to Kaaras meeting Kaariss, a fellow qunari with whom he quickly fell in love. They had a fairytale romance, but it suffered at the hands of Valo-Kas' poor leadership. After Saarebas died as a result of bad orders, Kaaras, Aith and several members of the company split off to form the Beres-taar Mercenary Company. Kaariss stayed behind.

 145.
Involvement

 146.
By the time Divine Justinia calls for the peace talks at the Conclave, Kaaras and the Beres-taar Mercenary Company have come to prominence in the Free Marches. Along with the Valo-Kas Mercenary Company, Kaaras and the Beres-taar Mercenary Company are invited to the Conclave to act as a buffer force to diffuse tension and prevent violence between the warring groups. Kaaras meets Kaariss in the lead up, but after three years of separation, their relationship is too strained to return to romance.

 147.
 148.
After miraculously surviving the explosion at the Temple of Sacred Ashes, Kaaras stabilizes the Breach and is named Herald of Andraste. Among the first wave of reactions to Kaaras' position as Herald is the appearance of his half-brother by his father. Named Talan-ash, Kaaras' brother left the Qun in order to find his biological family and eventually works alongside him in the Inquisition.

 149.
 150.
Thanks to his experience leading the Beres-taar, Kaaras takes on his role as Herald with aplomb. He first approaches the rebel mages for help sealing the Breach. After his trials in the false future at Redcliffe, he offers the mages a full alliance in exchange for their help. He even grants some measure of clemency to Magister Gereon Alexius by taking him in as a researcher for the Inquisition.

 151.
 152.
After the fall of Haven, where Kaaras offered himself as a sacrifice to save the Inquisition forces, Kaaras sends Aith home to care after their mother. Though reluctant to leave her brother's protection in the hands the Inquisition, she agrees with the caveat that she will return periodically to ensure all is well.

 153.
 154.
During the assault on Adamant Fortress, Kaaras falls into the Fade. After a protracted fight with the Nightmare demon, Stroud is left behind as a distraction so the others can escape. Knowing the truth behind the false Calling, Kaaras recruits the remaining Grey Wardens.

 155.
 156.
Kaaras attends the peace talks at the Winter Palace in Halam'shiral in order to protect Empress Celene from an assassination attempt. After stopping Grand Duchess Florienne, Kaaras blackmails Gaspard and Celene into working with Briala to rule Orlais peacefully while also improving elven welfare in the country.

 157.
 158.
At the Temple of Mythal in the Arbor Wilds, Kaaras has his people follow the ancient rituals for earning entrance to the sacred place. When offered the opportunity to drink from the Well of Sorrows, Kaaras concedes in favor of Morrigan's greater knowledge of Elven history and magic.

 164. After Corypheus is defeated, Kaaras is comfortable enough with using Leliana's resources to finally track down the bandit who ordered the attack on his childhood home, resulting in his father's death. While tracking the man down, he has every intention of killing him. However, on arrival, he realizes that the once-bandit is now elderly and on his deathbed. Kaaras is faced with the decision of killing the man and getting his years of vengeance and justice or letting him live out the remainder of his life in peace and forgive him.

165.
 166. It’s not an easy decision, but after the man apologizes for his actions, Kaaras decides that he cannot kill a helpless and dying old man; it’s time to move on. However, when Kaaras is ready to leave and move on from his years of trauma, Aith puts a blade in the man’s heart, killing him in his bed. While angry, Kaaras leaves, at least, with closure.

 169.
 170.
Notable Interactions

 171.
Over his tenure as Inquisitor, Kaaras recruits as many people as possible, regardless of their background. He collects skilled warriors, rogues and fellow mages of all types. He uses his leadership experience to ensure they all get along and function as a cohesive unit in the field.

 172.
He becomes particularly close with Iron Bull, especially after sacrificing the Qunari dreadnought to save the Chargers. They then engage in a romantic relationship, the intimate details of which are known to a rather large part of the Inquisition.
