  2. /////12 Basic Guidelines for Improving Viewership on Your Twitch Channel (Speedrun based channel)/////
  3. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
  4.
  5. These things are very simple ways that can improve the viewing experience for those in your chat (and therefore retain your viewers while gaining more).
  6.
  7. 1. Be nice to your viewers.
  8.
  9. 2. Stream frequently, preferably on a scheduled basis. Keep consistent viewers with streaming the same game and showing improvement over time. You can post the schedule in your info as well as in your offline pic.
  10.
  11. 3. Interact with your viewers, preferably with a mic. If you're eating, mute your mic if it's too loud.
  12.
  13. 4. Have good video quality and good balance of audio (between mic and game or other audio). Test this as often as you need to beforehand. Some people do this testing on alternate accounts.
  14.
  15. 5. Involve viewers in the stream experience. (I.e. polls for choosing game, short music quizzes, etc. Be creative!)
  16.
  17. 6. Make the stream title and game title slots relevant to what you're doing. For example, if you're improving in a game and are close to world record, put that in the title. People generally feel cheated going into a stream that claims world record attempts when (1) streamer is not anywhere close to WR, and (2) when the game is not competitive at all.
  18.
  19. 7. Have fun! It's entertaining to watch someone that's having fun and enjoying what they are doing (even if the streamer is bad at the game they are playing).
  20.
  21. 8. Be unique in your stream. When SM64 speedrunner #423 comes along and is wondering why they aren't getting viewers, it's probably because someone else is better at SM64 and more entertaining to watch.
  22.
  23. 9. Don't be dumb. Stick with the rules and be respectful of others when streaming.
  24.
  25. 10. Don't do it for $$$ or partner or whatever. It often looks desperate and it looks silly.
  26.
  27. 11. Don't complain and whine about viewer counts and other stuff.
  28.
  29. 12. Get involved in speedrunning communities like SpeedDemosArchive and SpeedRunsLive. Although this isn't directly stream related, it does however connect you with more speedgamers that you can watch and learn from and also watch and learn from you. They also become your best viewers to have around.

  32. Quotes from other streamers about improving viewership:
  33. *** "Make it so that if somebody random comes into your stream and knows nothing, that they can quickly understand what you're trying to do." - Cosmo
  34.
  35. *** "If you're gonna be mad on stream, be entertainingly mad, don't be a child, and don't go overboard with cusses." - CVagts
  36.
  37. *** "Being an engaging streamer. Provide good content, but at the same time make the viewer feel welcomed." - iateyourpie
  38.
  39. *** "[Stream with] an active, relevant stream layout, in decent quality." - Duckfist
  40.
  41. *** "Somebody said that if you're the WR holder for a game that has considerable competition, and you're just trying to improve that time, you should be able to say it as well." - Somebody
  42.
  43. *** "Stream more, make a connection with your chat. It really depends on what type of person you are too. ...Trihex is a good example of someone who doesn't read their chat but is a really good entertainer >_>" - Mitorequiem
  44.
  45. *** "Sit through one of your streams after you stream to see what you can improve. If you're not willing to watch your own stream, others might not want to either." - ewaller
  46.
  47. *** "Just speedrun your game and try to have some fun with it. Relax. If you're having fun, your viewers will probably have fun too." - bjw
