  30. Relationships with other characters
  31.
  32. Grey: Maya becomes instantly attached to Grey the moment she meets him. She sees him as a replacement for her son, and to a smaller degree, her husband. Even outside of Maya's own route, Maya comes to define herself by her relationship with Grey. She is protective of him and worries about him constantly. If he were to die, she would probably kill herself too.
  33.
  34. Sara: Only in Maya's route do Maya's feelings towards Sara become anything more than a generalized, vague jealousy. Maya recognizes that Sara is a better match for Grey than "an old woman like me" is. Nonetheless, she is cold toward Sara in practically all their interactions, and doesn't particularly like her.
  35.
  36. Bro: Maya likes Bro simply by merit of him being Grey's best friend, but she is a little bit puzzled by his demeanor. The two probably have fairly minimal interaction in most storylines.
  37.
  38. Naomi: Maya is appreciative of Naomi allowing her to use Naomi's apartment. Maya expresses this gratitude by keeping the apartment in good shape. Because Maya feels somewhat indebted to Naomi, Maya's attitude toward her is almost apologetic or embarrassed in nature. She wants to make sure she remains in Naomi's good graces.
  39.
  40. Elly: On the rare few times these two characters would have a chance to interact, Maya would probably find Elly's innocence charming. One can easily imagine Maya liking Elly a lot, and feeling a little maternal toward her.
  41.
  42. Jun: Maya would interact with Jun even less than she would with Elly (I struggle to think of any plot that would bring them into more than passing contact with one another). Maya might have some choice words for Jun about how important it is to maintain a healthy complexion and take care of herself. Otherwise, Maya would probably be kind of neutral toward her.
  43.
  44.
  45. Pre Z-Day
  46.
  47. Maya was born to a realtively poor family in "Denton"/whatever the hell our city is. Her mother was distant and her father was often absent.
  48.
  49. Unable to afford college, Maya ran away to Hollywood as a teenager to seek out a career in acting. During this time she had her "wild " years, but ultimately her attempt at stardom was a bust, and she wound up back in Denton. Settling for a more quiet life, she found a job at a local cafe, where she has worked as a waitress ever since.
  50.
  51. Maya met her husband Ben while waitressing -- he worked at an office not too far from the cafe, and came in one day for lunch. Ben fell for Maya at first sight, and he took to visitng the cafe every day on his break just to see her. After a lengthy courtship, he finally won her over, and the two were married.
  52.
  53. Ben was an excellent cook with a lifelong dream of owning a restaurant. Together with Maya, he saved up to purchase the cafe where she worked. Despite her new role as co-owner, Maya continued to waitress. Meanwhile, Ben took over the kitchen as head chef.
  54.
  55. Maya gave birth to her first and only son, Alex, when she was 25. She dedicated herself to giving Alex the kind of upbringing that she herself never had. To that end, she became the archetypal middle-class "soccer mom," doting on him, cooking for him and Ben, and shuttling Alex to soccer games, piano recitals, etc.
  56.
  57. Maya had a happy marriage with Ben and lived well. She was a typical homemaker who watched shows about cooking on her days off and read arts and crafts magazines in her spare time.
  58.
  59. Every once in a while, Maya felt a longing for what could have been, regretting that she never found fame and fortune in Hollywood. She sometimes wished that her life had the spark of excitement that it did when she was younger.

  62. From Z-Day to Day 1
  63.
  64. After the player parts ways with Maya in the demo, she immediately returns home to see if her husband and son are okay. But they aren't there -- Ben is with Alex at [insert random after school activity]. Realizing this, Maya is torn between waiting at home for their return, or going out to find them. She decides to wait for them.
