Episode 69
The God of Death and the Bat


(Scene starts on a map screen of some islands with deep forests. Slaine is on the map in his Sky Carrier.)

スレイン
(あの艦がこうも早く出港するとは…。
おそらく、アセイラム姫は他の民間人と共に
あれに乗っておられるはず)
Slaine: (I didn’t expect that ship to leave port so soon... It’s likely that Princess Asseylum is onboard with the other civilians.)

スレイン
(追跡して、今度こそ艦内へ潜入しなければ…)
Slaine: (I need to track it down and sneak inside...)

(Slaine flies forward a few spaces, then several Vegan Empire mechs appear.)

スレイン
「[ベガ星連合軍]…!
アクティブセンサーを切っていたのが
仇になったか」
Slaine: The [Vegan Empire]...! Looks like turning off the active sensor came back to bite me.

スレイン
(ここで戦えば、伯爵達に気付かれる。
上手く逃げ切らなければ…!)
Slaine: (The Count and his men will notice if I fight here. I need to get away carefully...!)

(One of the Mini-FOs is suddenly destroyed.)

スレイン
「!」
Slaine: !

(Duo appears in his Gundam.)

デュオ
「その蝙蝠は俺の獲物だぜ!」
Duo: Sorry, but that bat’s all mine!

(Duo destroys another Mini-FO, the remaining to begin to flee.)

デュオ
「わだつみを追うには、そいつが必要なんでな!」
Duo: I’m gonna be needing him to track down the Wadatsumi!

(Duo destroys another Mini-FO.)

スレイン
「隙が出来た…今なら!」
Slaine: They’re wide open... Now’s my chance!

(Slaine destroys the last Mini-FO.)

デュオ
「ほう、やるじゃねえか」
Duo: Hey, not bad there.

スレイン
(あの機体…白い翼の人型と顔が似てる。
彼らの仲間なのか…?)
Slaine: (That machine... Its shape and head are similar to the white winged machine. Then is he a friend of theirs...?)

(Duo flies over to Slaine.)

スレイン
「うっ!」
Slaine: Ugh!

デュオ
「変な動きを見せるんじゃねえぞ。
コックピットを切り裂かれたくなきゃな」
Duo: No sudden movements. You know, unless you want your cockpit ripped to shreds.

スレイン
「なら…何故、そうしないんです?」
Slaine: Wait... Why aren’t you doing just that?

デュオ
(こいつ、俺と同い年ぐらいか…?
それに、なかなか度胸が据わってやがるぜ)
Duo: (Isn’t this guy about the same age as me...? Well, he’s got some guts, I’ll give ‘em that.)

スレイン
「もしかして、
このスカイキャリアが必要なんですか?」
Slaine: Is there some reason you need my Sky Carrier?

デュオ
(しかも、頭の回転が早い。やり方を変えるか)
Duo: (He’s sharp too. Maybe I can change my approach here...)

デュオ
「お前こそ、たった一人で
こんな所に機体を隠して、何をやってたんだ?」
Duo: Wanna explain what you’re doing trying to lay low on your own out here?

スレイン
「………」
Slaine: ...

デュオ
「もしかして、ヴァース帝国の脱走兵か?」
Duo: Could it be you’re a Vers Empire deserter?

スレイン
「…あなたこそ、何者なんです?」
Slaine: ...Just who are you?

デュオ
(質問に質問で返した…
脱走兵ってのは、図星らしいな。
なら、やり方を変えるか)
Duo: (Mr. Deserter here responded my question with another question. Gonna assume that means I was on the mark. So, guess I really will change my approach.)

デュオ
「白い翼を持ったモビルスーツ…
ウイングガンダムゼロを知ってるだろ。
色んな所でお前らと戦ってたみたいだからな」
Duo: There’s this Mobile Suit with white wings... You might know it as Wing Gundam Zero. Seems like it’s been fighting your guys all over the place, hasn’t it?

スレイン
「ええ」
Slaine: That’s right.

デュオ
「あいつのパイロット…ヒイロは俺の仲間だ」
Duo: And the pilot--a guy named Heero--is a good buddy of mine.

スレイン
(やはり…)
Slaine: (I was right...)

デュオ
「だけど、俺がここへ来る前に
どこかへ消えちまったみたいでよ」
Duo: But looks like he up and vanished before I got here.

デュオ
「港で仕入れた情報じゃ、ヒイロ達は
わだつみに合流するつもりだったらしい」
Duo: From the information I got at the docks, it sounded like Heero and his group was supposed to meet up with the Wadatsumi.

デュオ
「で、あの艦を追っていれば、いずれは
あいつらと会えるんじゃないかと思ってな」
Duo: So I figured if I chase after that ship, I’ll run into him sooner or later.

スレイン
「…それで、その機体を運ぶ輸送機が
必要だったというわけですか」
Slaine: ...And to do that, you’re in need of a transport aircraft to take you there.

デュオ
「ああ。
さすがにこいつを運べるような船を
俺一人で動かすのは無理だからな」
Duo: Bingo. It should be pretty obvious that I wouldn’t have any idea how to steer a boat big enough to carry this guy.

スレイン
「なら、わだつみに乗れば良かったでしょう?」
Slaine: But why didn’t you just board the Wadatsumi to begin with?

デュオ
「そうすると、ヴァース帝国との戦いに
巻き込まれちまう。そいつは御免だ。
俺は、元いた所に戻りたいだけだからな」
Duo: ‘Cuz I don’t want nothing to do with their war against the Vers Empire, no siree. I just wanna get back to where I came from.

スレイン
(元いた所…)
Slaine: (Where he came from...?)

デュオ
「さて、こっちの質問に答えてもらおうか」
Duo: Now then, how about I get an answer to my question?

スレイン
「ヴァース帝国を抜け出して来たのは事実です。
その理由は教えられませんが…」
Slaine: It’s true that I did run away from the Vers Empire. I’m not able to tell you why, but...

スレイン
「あなたがわだつみを追うつもりなら、
協力しても構いません」
Slaine: If your objective is to pursue the Wadatsumi, then I am willing to cooperate.

デュオ
「それであの艦を沈めるような真似をしやがったら、
ただじゃ済まさねえぜ?」
Duo: I hope you aren’t thinkin’ I’ll just sit around if you try and sink that ship.

スレイン
「そんなことはしません。
わだつみには、とても大切なものが積まれている
可能性があり…それを取り戻したいと思っているので」
Slaine: I have no intention of doing anything of the sort. There may be something very important within the Wadatsumi... Something I would wish to take back.

デュオ
「何なんだ、そいつは?」
Duo: And this something is?

スレイン
「教えられません。
それがあなたに協力する条件です」
Slaine: I can’t answer that. That is my requirement for our cooperation.

デュオ
「ふん…
お前がわだつみを沈めねえっていう確証は?」
Duo: Hm... And how do I know for sure you aren’t just gonna sink the ship?

スレイン
「もし、あの艦の撃沈が目的なのだとしたら、
とっくにやっていますよ」
Slaine: If destroying the ship was my intent, then I would have done so well before now.

デュオ
「そりゃ、そうか。
なら、これで商談成立だな」
Duo: Yeah, fair. Alright, guess we got ourselves a deal here.

スレイン
「ええ」
Slaine: Yes.

デュオ
(肝心な問題は、ヒイロ達がこの世界へ
戻って来るかどうかだが…時間が掛かるようなら、
わだつみに乗り込むしかねえ)
Duo: (The real question is when Heero is even going to come back to this world... If it looks like it’ll take a while, then I’ll probably have to end up joining up with the Wadatsumi.)

デュオ
(その時、こいつをどうするかだが…)
Duo: (And then I’ll have to figure out what to do with this guy when that happens...)

スレイン
(単独でわだつみに接触するより、
この男を利用した方がいい)
Slaine: (I believe it’ll be more beneficial to make contact with the Wadatsumi making use of this man rather than on my own.)

スレイン
(それで捕虜扱いになったとしても、
あの艦の中へ入りさえすれば…)
Slaine: (So long as I can get inside that ship, even being a prisoner of war is fine...)

デュオ
「…俺の名前はデュオ。
デュオ・マックスウェルだ」
Duo: ...My name’s Duo. Duo Maxwell, that is.

スレイン
「スレイン・トロイヤードです」
Slaine: I am Slaine Troyard.

デュオ
「じゃ、早速、わだつみを追おうぜ」
Duo: Cool. Aight, let’s hurry after the Wadatsumi.

スレイン
「わかりました」
Slaine: Understood.


(Scene changes to a beach.)


デュオ
「…あれから何日経った?
いい加減、魚を食うのは飽きたぜ」
Duo: ...How long has it been since then? I’m gettin’ real tired of eating fish.

スレイン
「なら、わだつみに合流すればいいでしょう」
Slaine: Then, should we try to meet with the Wadatsumi?

デュオ
「だから、ヴァース帝国や宇宙人と
ガチでやり合う気はないんだってば」
Duo: Like I said before, I don’t wanna get involved in any battles against the Vers Empire or space aliens.

スレイン
「ヴァース帝国に身を寄せるという
手段もありますよ」
Slaine: We could also try approaching the Vers Empire.

デュオ
「それで地球侵攻に加担しろってか。御免だね」
Duo: And help them invade the Earth? Yeah, how ‘bout no.

スレイン
「でも、あなたは厳密に言えば、
地球の人間じゃないんでしょう?」
Slaine: But you aren’t even from this Earth, are you? Technically speaking.

デュオ
「そうだが、事情が違うぜ。
ま、火星人のお前にゃわからねえと思うが」
Duo: Yeah, but that’s not all there is to it. Well, I guess a Martian wouldn’t really get it.

スレイン
「………」
Slaine: ...

デュオ
「それにしても、わだつみの艦長は
大胆なんだか慎重なんだかわからねえな。
いったい何日掛けて呉まで行くつもりだ?」
Duo: Anyways, I can’t tell if the Wadatsumi’s captain is being cautious or daring. Just how long is that person planning to drag out the journey to Kure?

スレイン
「そのおかげで、僕達はこうやって
小島の海岸で休めるわけですが…」
Slaine: Although, it’s because of that that we have the chance to rest here on the coast of Kojima.

デュオ
「おっと、喋ってたら俺の睡眠時間が短くなっちまう。
じゃ、見張り番、頼むぜ」
Duo: Oh crap, if we keep talking then my nap time’s gonna get cut even shorter. You handle the look out, alright?

スレイン
「デュオ、わだつみが動き出したようです」
Slaine: Duo, it looks like the Wadatsumi is starting to head out.

デュオ
「やれやれ…」
Duo: Yeah, that figures...

スレイン
「移動中、コックピットの中で
寝ていてもらって結構ですよ」
Slaine: You’re welcome to sleep in the cockpit along the way.

デュオ
「わりぃな、そうさせてもらうぜ」
Duo: Nah, I better not.


(Scene changes to a map screen of some islands. Duo and Slaine are on the map.)


デュオ
「それじゃ、頼むぜ」
Duo: Right then, countin’ on you.

スレイン
「わかりました」
Slaine: Understood.

(Slaine detects something.)

スレイン
「デュオ、こちらへベガ星連合軍の
円盤群が接近中です」
Slaine: Duo, it looks like Vegan Empire saucers are coming this way.

デュオ
「やり過ごしたら、わだつみと接触しそうか?」
Duo: And if we let ‘em go, they’re gonna end up running into the Wadatsumi?

スレイン
「そうですね」
Slaine: That’s correct.

デュオ
「しゃあねえな、寝るのは後回しだ」
Duo: Guess it’s gonna be a while before I get to sleep then.

(Vegan Empire mechs appear.)

デュオ
「さあ、さっさと片付けちまおうぜ!」
Duo: Come on, let’s hurry up and take out the trash!

スレイン
「了解です」
Slaine: Roger.

(Battle 1 begins.)

(Battle 1 ends when all enemies are defeated.)

デュオ
「へっ、円盤なんぞで死神を止められると思うなよ」
Duo: Heh, like a couple of saucers are enough to stop the God of Death.

(Slaine detects something.)

スレイン
「デュオ、後続が来ます」
Slaine: Another wave incoming, Duo.

デュオ
「はあ、しつこい奴らだぜ」
Duo: Sheesh, persistent little buggers, aren’t they?


(Scene ends.)

(Next scene picks up where it left off.)


デュオ
「今のところ、補給の当てはねえんだからな。
無駄弾を撃つなよ」
Duo: We can’t exactly go for a supply run anytime soon. Don’t waste your bullets now.

スレイン
「わかっています」
Slaine: Understood.

(Vegan Empire saucers appear and battle 2 begins.)

(Battle 2 ends when all enemies are defeated.)

スレイン
「敵機を全て撃墜…後続はないようです」
Slaine: All enemy units have been shot down. ...There doesn’t appear to be another wave either.

デュオ
「しかし、あいつら…何でこの辺りを彷徨いてんだ?
こっちはハイパージャマーを掛けてんのに」
Duo: But I wonder... The heck were those guys prowling around here for? I’ve even got my Hyper Jammer on.

スレイン
「受けずだに済んででていますが…確かに妙ですね」
Slaine: I don’t believe they’ve noticed us so... Yes, it’s certainly odd.

デュオ
「何かを探しているのか?」
Duo: Think they were looking for something?

スレイン
「さあ…」
Slaine: I’ve no idea...

デュオ
「ま、いいか。
じゃあ、相棒の運搬を頼むぜ。
俺は一眠りさせてもらう」
Duo: Eh, oh well. You’re in charge of carrying my partner from here on. Time for me to get some shut eye.

スレイン
「わかりました」
Slaine: Understood.

「後方海域での戦闘光は収まったようです」
Tsumugi: The battle taking place in the waters behind us appears to have ended, ma’am.

マグバレッジ
「どうやら、巻き込まれずに済みましたね」
Magbaredge: Seems we didn’t have to get involved then.

不見咲
「この辺りで戦闘を行うとなると、
ヴァース帝国とベガ星連合軍でしょう」
Mizusaki: If there’s a battle near here, I’d imagine it must involve the Vers Empire and the Vegan Empire.

不見咲
「前者が勝利したのであれば、
本艦が追撃を受ける可能性が高いです」
Mizusaki: If the former was victorious, then it’s very likely they’ll be pursuing us.

不見咲
「迂回と島嶼への退避を繰り返すより、
早急に呉へ直行した方がいいと思います。
そもそも、最初からそうしていれば、今頃は…」
Mizusaki: I believe it would be more prudent to proceed directly to Kure immediately rather than repeatedly taking refuge within the islands along the way as we have been. If we had done so in the first place, then by now, we would have already been--

マグバレッジ
「不見咲君、
君がもてない理由を教えましょうか?」
Magbaredge: Mizusaki, should I tell you why you aren’t very popular with men?

不見咲
「女性の愚痴は、男性の保護欲を
高めると聞きましたが?」
Mizusaki: But I had heard that men have the urge to take care of a woman if she’s complaining.

マグバレッジ
「程度によります。
同じ愚痴を何度も聞かされるのは、
男女を問わず嫌気が差します」
Magbaredge: It depends how much. If you complain about the same thing over and over again, anyone would get sick of it, man or woman.

不見咲
「は、はあ」
Mizusaki: I-I see.

祭陽
「何なんスか、あれ?
真面目な話してると思いきや…」
Matsuribi: The heck was that about? I thought they were having a serious conversation there...

「いつものことさ。直に慣れる」
Kakei: That happens all the time. You get used to it.

マグバレッジ
(…ここまでは運が良かっただけ。
この先はどうなるかわかりませんね…)
Magbaredge: (...When it gets down to it, we’ve just been lucky so far. There’s no telling what may happen in the future...)
