My momma always did say I should use good manners when I meet someone new. I assume someone will be reading this, so allow me to introduce myself. I've never written in a journal or diary before like this, so I must ask you kindly for some patience with this, if you please.

The name's Caleb. It's a distinct pleasure to meet you. Guess you want to know more about me, then? Well, lucky for you, I'm in the mood to divulge. I'm a married man, a father, and a simple country boy from Georgia (though I sure don't look like one, do I?).

I'm married to a great woman, Helene. Now, to be fair, when I met her, I wasn't looking for nothing that substantial--I did just want a wife to give me a lineage and cover, after all. Miss Helene's proven to be of much, much more value than that the longer I know her. She's definitely strong enough to whip this old dog of a man into shape, after all. She knows too well how much of a dog this boy here is, too, and she still wants to keep me around. Maybe some things are just meant to be, ain't they?

We're in this therapy thing for now. I'm going along with this for her sake, though I'll admit I ain't too convinced we really need it. But if it's what Miss Helene wants, well, of course I'll see to it that she'll get it. So we'll have us our daily session in this journal, now, won't we?
