during high school, ren didn't have many friends -- mostly due to her brothers overprotective nature. despite being a year younger than her, koushi always tried his best to shield her from the pain he was sure other people would cause her. most people were too afraid to even come within a ten foot radius of ren because of the immediate death glare they would be pinned with by koushi. for all of middle school and half of high school, the two were practically inseparable. ren was never too bothered by her brother's obvious overprotective nature because she never felt the desire to have more than a small group of friends, and she usually ended up completely disregarding it because she believed she was tough and smart enough not to let herself get hurt.
when her brother was sixteen and she was seventeen, he audition for and made it into pledis entertainment as a trainee. after that, all his time was consumed by schoolwork and his training, and there was no time left to worry about ren; he wasn't too worried, because he didn't believe that after seventeen years of living, the one year she was left alone would be the year she would fuck up (whoOps he was wrong.) it was during this time period that she first saw seokjin, and fell -- oh lord, she fell hard for him. some complications occurred, and she was left completely and utterly heartbroken, swearing off men and relationships for the rest of her life (lmao lets see how long that'll last.)

ren was visiting koushi one day at the pledis building, and they were bonding and catching up how siblings do, when he gets really excited and decides he wants to introduce her to his closest trainee friend. at first, when she met seokmin, she thought he was too happy all the time, and wanted to avoid him. but slowly, she started getting closer to him as she started visiting her brother there more and more, and they even started hanging out when they were both free on the weekends.
