  1. > "What the hell do you mean i'm out of the band?" Lina screamed at Nathan.
  2. > "Look dont take personally."
  3. > "Personally!? Its my band, we wouldn't even be a band or have a damn name if I didn't start it!" Nathan just shook his head, the other bandmates just let it ride out.
  4. > "This, this is why, you always want to be the face of the band or do your solos. Were practically back up dancers."
  5. > "What are you talking about? I went to you guys because I want you in my band."
  6. > "And we joined because we wanted to make a band, not make you look good."
  7. > "Because we need a face. Every band needs a face. Fergie, Vincent Furnier, Mick Jagger!"
  8. > "Your not Mick Jagger."
  9. > "Oh and you are? Yeah nothing screams original like a bright lighting bolt on a black leather jacket. The band is called Blue Streak. You know, like my fucking hair!"
  10. > "Look can we just talk about this later. We only got this room for another 2 hours and we need to practice our set."
  11. > Nathan wasn't scared of Lina. And Lina knew this, everytime they fought over a set list, naming a song, venue. It was only time before he tried to take over.
  12. > The others weren't even trying to stop him. Just sat there tuning their shit.
  13. > "Okay. Just let me get my stuff."
  14. > Nathan finally broke his stance and went over to his guitar. But found Lina holding it.
  15. > "Lina..."
  16. > "Y'know Nate, I bought this for you. Figure you and me were gonna hit stardom together." With one swing she sent the guitar crashing into boombox shattering both. Before she picked up her own Bass and headed for the door before any of them could react. "Hope you kept the receipt."
  17. > She mumbled slamming the music room door behind her.
  18. >Lina threw her bag on the couch, she almost tempted throw her guitar.
  19. > She needed to distract herself. Get her mind off the music and anything related to it to calm herself down. She didn't need to put another hole in her wall.
  20. > She turned on the tv and of course, it was paused and set on a special interview with Luna loud.
  21. > Lina she stopped herself from throwing the remote at the tv. Damn to expensive to break, though it was tempting.
  22. > 'Lina? Is that you?" Her mother walked into the living room. "Your home early, I thought you had practice?"
  23. > "Nah, we- someone got sick."
  24. > "Bummer. You wanna watch this with me?" She picked up the remote.
  25. > "I'm good I-" She noticed her mom struggle to hold the remote, she kept a straight face looking at Lina, but her hand jittered and trying to reach for the play button.
  26. > Its not usually this bad.
  27. > "Sure mom." She helped her mom press the play.
  28. > "Thanks." The interview started and already Lina was trying to tune it out.
  29. > "So Luna, you have a bit of history with your old bandmates. Went through a few apparently? Why is that."
  30. > "Aw, it happens. Some have responsibilities, some have creative differences. I try to keep it all copasetic."
  31. > "Haha Bullshit." Lina perked up hearing her mom laugh. "I remember one time she worked on this one song for about three weeks, it was nice little melody. She showed to our old drummer and he called it "Melodramatic Trash", I had to stop her from throwing him off the balcony."
  32. > "Cool." Lina wondered if she could get Nathan on a balcony.
  33. >"Yeah, not really. There are much better ways of handling criticism then chucking dudes out of hotel rooms." Lina always took her mother's little pieces of advice to heart. Though it was more fun to break stuff. Made her feel better at least.
  34. > "Do you miss any of old band mates?"
  35. > "Not many, we all go our paths so I cant say I regret them leaving or pissing off." Luna was quiet for a moment. "I do miss Sam."
  36. > Her mom's eyes were glued to the screen now. Lina wanted to be anywhere else right now.
  37. > "She was one of the guitar players we had in the band, there since the beginning. I probably wouldn't even be here right now if she wasn't around to get me going."
  38. > "I believe the reason why she left was due to medical complications? There are rumors about-"
  39. > "S'cuse me mate. I thought you were asking me about the new album, but you seem more interested in my past. But I'll keep my temper and just make a lil' recommendation to you" Luna leaned in close and the camera zoomed out to show her getting right up in the face of the interviewer. "You dont wanna play gravedigger dude, because I will bury you." She sat back down in her seat. And Sam paused the interview.
  40. > "God, she could never handle the personal questions. Ask her about music, or food, the places she's been. She'd go on for hours." Sam sat there for a moment. She noticed Lina's bass. "Did something happen with your band?"
  41. > The little rocker didn't say a word. Her mom always read people like that, never could keep a secret from her. She'd smell it out eventually.
  42. > "Not my band anymore."
  43. > "Oh sweetie."
  44. > "Fuck them! I made that band! I taught Nathan how to play the damn guitar, I bought it for him! Five months of allowance went into that stupid thing so I had every right to smash it."
  45. > "You broke his Guitar!" She practically screamed at her daughter. She jumped a little never hearing her mom like this. "Lina Sharp! You can get mad all you want, you can scream and get angry, but you never, NEVER! Break another musicians instrument."
  46. > "He kicked me out of my own band."
  47. > "And he's an asshole for it, but it doesn't give you any right to cripple someone for it." Sam's hands shook, Lina wanted to get angry. But she couldn't.
  48. > "I know." Lina said quietly. "I'm sorry mom."
  49. > "Apologizing to me isn't going to mean anything. You're going to pay to get it fixed."
  50. > "What! I-" Sam stopped her. Sam looked her right in the eye and put her hands on her daughter's shoulders.
  51. > "Trust me, Lina, you don't want to leave bad blood. It's only going to leave you bitter." Part of her wanted to ignore the advice, stay mad, be bitter. But it just wouldn't stick.
  52. > Lina slumped into the couch, her mother brought her in for a hug. Taking off Lina's hat and petting her head.
  53. > "I'm sorry mom."
  54. > "Its gonna be okay Bluebird. Just do me a favor and makes things right."
  55. > She felt her mother's warm palms, still as stone. All her troubles seemed to fade away, wanting to make things better. Not for her, or Nathan, but just things in general.
  56. > "Alright." and that's all that needed to be said on it.
  57. > "Hey Lina." Nathan met Lina outside of school the next day. She didn't want to talk with the others around or in class.
  58. > He was hesitant to meet outside. He had a hunch she was going to smash her bass over his head or something like that.
  59. > But she was oddly calm.
  60. > She opened her guitar case and threw him a guitar. An Ibanez Tam 100. A little old by today standards, but you cant beat a classic.
  61. > "Are you giving this to me?"
  62. > "Make no mistake." She got up real close to Nathan. "You are dead to me and I hope your new band chokes." she backed up a bit "But there isn't much sense in leaving you stranded. So your lucky I knew a guy with some old guitars."
  63. > "Well, thanks."
  64. > "Dont mention it, in fact. Never mention it. And if you ever talk to me again, I will fill your locker full of scorpions." Nathan didn't know anyone in Michigan with that many scorpions. But knowing Lina, she probably knew someone who did.
  65. > Lina took her thanks and walked off. Nathan admired the old guitar for a minute, decide to give it a good strum.
  66. > The second he did, all of the strings on it broke.
  67. > "Sorry, should have reminded you, those old guitars have really sensitive strings." Especially when you tighten them hard enough.
