  1. My story:
  2. Hi, I'm a 14-year-old high school freshman who was first introduced to Pokémon at 6 years old, during Gen 3. I absolutely fell in love with it, quickly memorizing the type matchups. My very first Pokémon game was FireRed, and this is what started it all. From there I gathered collected the rest of the Gen 3 handheld games, but then when Gen 4 rolled around, I got Pokémon Battle Revolution. Yes, even before I got Diamond/Pearl. That was when I transitioned from casual to battling oriented, and I was constantly building new teams.
  3.
  4. I was always caught up on the new Pokemon games, and especially loved my Pokemon HeartGold Version, where I composed my very first viable team for PBR (and which finally got me through Masters Set 8! UGH!) which consisted of Tyranitar, Aerodactyl, Metagross, Lucario, Arceus-Grass and Dialga, oriented around double battles, in turn, I believe, giving me an upper hand nowadays in the Doubles tier. I played that game on and off for a few years (no, I was NOT addicted, I played Steam games as well, but I can't supress that I was quite good), building strong new teams whenever I perfected the previous, which included an Uber team, a Sun team, a Little Cup doubles team (#Sunnypark) and a team based around Palkia. All of the teams were designed to beat Masters Set 8 with only a couple of legendaries. For those that don't know, Masters Set 8 is the hardest line of battles in the game, where you must get your team through a series of 4 battles, first consisting of a strongly built hail team, then a sandstorm team, then a Trick Room team, then the boss of the Colosseum, who has a Kyogre, Palkia, Latios, Mewtwo, Manaphy, and Manaphy, so beating this is EXCELLENT training for Double Battles and being able to predict super effective attacks to use Protect, and all that. Oh yeah, and if you lost once on a set, you had to start over with the first, so you really have to know what you're doing. If the team made it through that, (yeah, I made use of Explosion, I know how OP it was in Gen 4) it challenged the previous sets of the Masters Colosseum, which are all strongly built teams but with no legendaries except the Master's underlings, which were always the fourth in the set. If the team made it through all THAT with only a couple tweaks, I went to wi-fi and cleaned house, getting approximately 2 ragequits per session. I DID use an AR, but only to get Event Pokémon I missed, max Heart Scales, max Lucky Eggs, and 99 of every TM, so when I discovered I could do all this in a matter of minutes, you can probably tell how happy I was I didn't have to spend 2 weeks EV training a Pokemon. (Without even getting into IVs at all.)

  6. (Yeah, Pokémon battling is my THING, if you haven't noticed, but it should be noted that all these battles were double battles, sooo yeah, I'm going to want a tutor this year in X/Y OU, and maybe I'd be interested in tutoring Doubles as well, once I figure out what works.)
  7.
  8. All this is why even though I'm new to real competitive battling in Smogon, I can still build teams quite effectively, and after doing some research around this site, I learned the usefulness of Stealth Rock and switching out, to name a couple, and my battling power has greatly increased. When Gen 5 rolled around, I had pre-ordered my B/W version, but when I realized the following:
  9. -There was almost exclusively Gen 5 Pokemon
  10. -It wasn't compatible with PBR
  11. -Migrating was unreliable
  12. ... I continued to play HeartGold and build up teams, with no Gen 5 Pokemon, and my grand total was 4 very strong teams with only a couple of ubers, except for my rain team, which was entirely ubers, in order to beat Set 8, which consists of first a Hail team, then a sandstorm team, then a trick room team, then a rain team with entirely ubers. That's good training, especially since if you lose one battle, you have to start over. If it made it through Set 8, it moved on to try its hand at the other 7. My teams were all hyper-offensive with no walls, and I made sure to have a super effective move for every single type in the game (not dual types, but often I still did, and even so, they did strong neutral damage) I never got around to buying BW2, not that I particularly wanted it, so I missed out on a lot of stuff exclusive to that game, but Smogon gave me a quick glance at the strong competitors of the generation and knowledge of Hidden Abilities. I no longer play PBR all that much, and in fact I don't think I've touched it in the last year, because that was when I became preoccupied with Steam games such as Dota 2, Skyrim, TF2, and Mount and Blade Warband, to name a few, since my HeartGold unfortunately reset its data on me (what did I do wrong? REALLY?) . However when I randomly discovered Smogon, I jumped right into it, especially the Doubles and VGC tiers, since I had a lot of practice and was used to building strong teams for use in competition. So there you go, I brought you up to the present on me, and I appreciate any friendly advice, since as a freshman, I don't have the time for a full-blown apprenticeship until summer, which is a long way away. When I do get time, though, I'm going to really need help with singles, as I have little experience outside double battles. Oh yeah, and if Smogon Triples becomes a thing, could use some help with that too, though admittedly most people on here will.

  14. So there you go, that's my story, hope you enjoyed it. I will try to make it more readable in the future, but that's it for now.
