- Ideal setup: d4, Bf4, e3, Nf3, Bd3, Nd2, c3
- >ALWAYS do Bf4 before doing e3, Nd2, or Bd3
- >ALWAYS do e3 before, Bd3
- If opponent plays Bd6
- -Do Bg3
- -If opposing bishop attacks, capture back with hg3
- If opponent plays Nc6:
- -Try to do c3 as soon as you can to defend the b4 square
- If the opponent protects the e rank pawn (ex. putting queen or rook behind it):
- -Occupy e5 immediately (usually Ne5, this is why Nf3 could be good)
- If opponent does early c5 (with a d5 opener):
- -Can your typical setup, don't worry about it
- >If opponent also does Qb6: Nc3
- -If queen takes pawn: Nb5
- -If queen doesn't take pawn: Rb1
- -Can also consider the early Nc3
- >If opponent doesn't do a6: Nb5
- >If opponent does do a6: Option to do Nf3, Be2, Qd2, & 0-0-0 or you can just develop normally
- If opponent does Bf5:
- -Do c4, Nc3, Qb3
- If opponent does Nf6, g6 to open:
- -ALWAYS do Nc3
- >If opponent does Bg7: e4, Qd2, now you have Bh6 & 0-0-0, then you start attacking with 3 pawns on kingside
- >If opponent does d5: e3
- -If opponent does Bg7: h4
- >If opponent castles: h5 & sacrifice rook
- >If opponent does h5: Just develop your kingside pieces (bishop, knight, even pawns)
- If opponent does c5 without a d5:
- -Play d5 yourself
- >If opponent does Qb6: Nc3, queen takes pawn, Bd2, then do e4 & f4
- >If opponent doesn't play this queen: Nc3, then try to do e4, Qd2, 0-0-0
- If opponent does a Dutch system (f5 turn 1):
- -Setup your London system but try to castle queenside
- Options after setup is complete (and black castles king side):
- -Advance the e pawn in a pawn trade in the center
- -Play f4
- -Qh5
- -Qf3 --> Qh3
- -Bh4
