  21.
  22. Gold/Crystal full ruleset:
  23. - Timing is by RTA, where timer starts at New Game and ends as the last textbox is cleared after Red is defeated.
  24. - Hard resetting the console during the run is not allowed.
  25. - Saving and quitting (S + Q) using soft resets is allowed.
  26. - Runs must be done on English version.
  27. - Resetting at the credits after the Elite Four is allowed.
  28. - Using a Poké Doll on the shiny Gyarados is allowed.
  29. - Glitches are not allowed.
  30. - The Super Game Boy peripheral for the SNES runs at an inaccurate framerate, and is therefore banned. Super Game Boy 2 is allowed, however.
  31. - All variants of Game Boy Tower have inaccurate emulation, and are therefore banned.
  32. - The only allowed emulator is the latest release of Gambatte-Speedrun with a GBC bios image.
  33. - All other emulators are banned.
  34. - If using emulator, using save states and speedup for any reason (including reaching the New Game screen faster) is not allowed.
  35. - Using emulator to create custom palettes that are not usable on any kind of official console is not allowed.
  36. - If using emulator, you must do one of the following to prove your run is using the correct emulator:
  37.     1. Hard reset the emulator using Ctrl-R or the menu option before the start of or during the first 10 minutes of every individual attempt, and include the footage of that reset in your run submission video
  38.     2. Capture the entire emulator including the window border for the submitted video. An example can be seen here:
  39.
  40. Sapphire full rules:
  41. - All emulators are hidden for this game by default, as all emulators play this game faster than any console can, and therefore do not produce accurate results, or provide fair competition.
  42. - Timing is by RTA, where timer starts at New Game and ends when screen fades to black after Hall of Fame in game time is shown.
  43. - Saving and quitting (S + Q) is allowed.
  44. - Runs must be done on English version with a working battery.
  45. - Glitches are not allowed.
  46. - Accepted emulators are Bizhawk, mGBA, VBA and VBA-rr.
  47. - All other emulators are banned.
  48. - If using emulator, using save states and speedup for any reason (including reaching the New Game screen faster) is not allowed. -
  49. - Using emulator to create custom palettes that are not usable on any kind of official console is not allowed.
  50. - If using emulator, the entire emulator, including the window border, must be captured and visible. An example can be seen here:
  51.
  52. Emerald full rules:
  53. - All emulators are hidden for this game by default, as all emulators play this game faster than any console can, and therefore do not produce accurate results, or provide fair competition.
  54. - All runs that have a save and quit (S + Q) are hidden by default, as a S + Q is by definition an RNG manipulation.
  55. - Timing is by RTA, where timer starts at New Game and ends when screen fades to black after Hall of Fame in game time is shown.
  56. - Runs must be done on English version with a working battery.
  57. - Checking your trainer ID before receiving your starter Pokemon is not allowed, as this information can be used for RNG manipulation.
  58. - Glitches are not allowed.
  59. - Accepted emulators are Bizhawk, mGBA, VBA and VBA-rr.
  60. - All other emulators are banned.
  61. - If using emulator, using save states and speedup for any reason (including reaching the New Game screen faster) is not allowed. -
  62. - Using emulator to create custom palettes that are not usable on any kind of official console is not allowed.
