- HOW NEWMAN WON IN 2003:
- Texas: Ran in the top 5 most of the day, getting as high as 2nd and never lower than 7th. While running 3rd at lap 222 green flag pit stops started. The caution came out during pit stops. Newman had yet to pit when the caution came out, elevating him to the lead and trapping the previous top 2, Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth, well back in the field. He lost the lead to Dale Earnhardt Jr. at lap 289 after taking 2 tires while most took 4, but got it back at lap 324.
