Pros and Cons of autonomous vehicles

Taking in consideration what we just listened, I'm going to talk
about the pros and cons of autonomous vehicles, however I will be focusing on topics
that have some sort of ethical dilemmas associated with them


PROS

- Reduction of road casualties
94% of car crashes are due to human error, so a fully automated vehicle
is able to see more and act faster than a human driver could reduce the number
of road crashes

- Accessibility
Elder people and disabled people will have be able to access vehicles in an easier
way

- Economic benefits
If we get to a level where cars are fully automatic and the driver doesn't need to
do anything, it´s easy to predict that there will be money saved on crashes, and
because of the perfect driving of the car itself it will likely be cheaper on fuel
and repairs


CONS

- Hacking/glitches/crashes
Like any other technology there will be errors that are not predicted,
even worse than that could be the possibility of a malicious attack made by
a hacker than can cause serious injuries or even, death.

- Killer software engineers
In case of finding a scenario of an accident that involves someone dying, it is
unethical that programmers have to code in the decision the car has to do.

- Loss of jobs
If vehicles come to a point where they are autonomous, bus drivers when be needed
taxi drivers and companies like uber will disappear and maybe people in general
will not need a driving license anymore
