- So... here are the rules for my upcoming Pokémon Fire Red Nuzelocke Run. For those who don't know what a Nuzelocke run is, is basically a way of making Pokémon games a little more difficult, whilst also forcing me to use Pokémon that I've likely never used before. I've done a Nuzlocke before in Pokemon Red version, which you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xBRC1ZFTDg&list=PLB7EE0B51F98D5322
- There are three main rules of a Nuzelocke and are really simple:
- 1. I'm only allowed to catch the first Pokémon I encounter in each Route/Area.
- 2. If a Pokémon faints, I can no longer use it, and I must either release or Box the Pokémon.
- 3. Finally if I black out from losing all the Pokémon in my team, the run is over.
- I AM however, going to add extra rules to follow, other than the above and they are the following:
- 1. If my first encounter on a new Route/Area is a Pokémon I have already caught, I can call a Mulligan - I don't really want a team of exclusively my starter and several Pidgy and Rattata and other such Com Mons. This will include that Pokémon's evolutions at my discretion. As this will be a randomiser run, I don't know how many times this rule will come into play, but it's here nonetheless...
- 2. Aside from Poké Balls, No items can be used in battle. However, I am allowed to used Items outside of battle and held items are OK too.
- 3. If, by some miracle, I encounter a Shiny Pokémon (It's a 1/8000-ish chance - I don;e know the exact number off the top of my head) I will attempt to catch it regardless of it is my first encounter or not.
- 4. Pokémon gifted to me (i.e. the Eevee in Celadon City or the Lapras in Sylph Co.) Pokemon I buy from certain NPCs (Magikarp in the Pokémon Center near Mt Moon) or the Game Corner are viable for use should I decide to pick them up. These Pokémon will be Rando'd.
- 5. Providing I have caught the Pokemon an NPC requires for a Trade as the first one caught and is still alive, In game trades with NPCs are fair game. These Pokés will be Rando'd and won't follow the nicknaming theme intentionally.
- 6. Pokémon will be Nicknamed. Nicknames are permanent. These nicknames will be based on a theme of my choosing. Feel free to guess the nickname theme as time goes on.
- These rules will come into effect once I receive the Pokédex/Poké Balls from Professor Oak and will last until I defeat the Elite 4/Champion after doing all the Sevi Island stuff (which means the successful run will be fighting them twice!)
- Finally, these are the randomiser settings I will be using:
- * We start with the National Dex enabled. This is a necessity as in Fire Red/Leaf Green, Pokémon outside of the Kanto region won't evolve if you don't have the National Dex. In Vanilla FR/LG this is only a problem for evolving Golbat to Crobat, but I'm doing a Randomiser, so...
- * Pokémon encounters are, obviously randomised, however the starter Pokés will be randomised to be guaranteed to have 2 evolutions, much like vanilla starters.
- * Trainer Pokemon are Randomised. The Rival, however, will keep his starter
- * Static Pokémon are randomised, such as the Magikarp in the Mt. Moon Pokémon Center. However, Static Legendary Pokémon (i.e. Mewtwo and the three legendary Birds) will always be legendary Pokés.
- * Each Pokémon is guaranteed to have 4 moves, and will be randomised. This will also include the Pokémon's moveset via levelling up.
- * The moves Sonicboom and Dragon Rage are banned. These moves are broken in the early game and I'd like to have a run go at least past Misty/Lt. Surge...
- * Pokémon that have a Trade evolution, or otherwise have evolutions that are impossible to obtain in the game now evolve either by levelling up or using a Stone of some sort.
- * Pokémon will be fully evolved by at least Lv. 40 unless they require a stone. This includes my own catches, as well as trainer Pokémon.
- * Items are randomised.
- * TMs are randomised as are the Mons who can use said TM. The same goes for the various Move tutors in the game.
- * HMs, however, can be learned by anyone. This is only really a thing because I don't want to break the Nuzelocke rules if I can't progress.
- * Abilities are NOT randomised.
