<Antioch|GM> Freddy's phone has blown up with notifications overnight. There's been rioting in all corners of the city, it seems, bad enough that the Protectorate's gotten some out-of-town reinforcements.
<Antioch|GM> To the best of his knowledge, there's been no notice from his dad about his instatement in the Wards, but he finds himself on the patrol roster for today nonetheless.
<Antioch|GM> East Cleveland Peacekeeping and Riot Suppression Detail: Feral, Crimson Hand, Joyeuse.
<Antioch|GM> There's a scheduled briefing -- extremely brief, as it happens, with only 15 minutes allotted to it on his digital scheduler. Time seems to be of the essence, though they've left him undisturbed enough to get a full night's sleep. ||
<Nick|Joyeuse> The uninterrupted sleep is extremely welcome. Freddy's sleep schedule's been messed up since Sigma's attack. Hopefully this is the first step to get back on top of it. Being put on the patrol schedule isn't unwelcome, but it is confusing. He expected that he'd get a costume first, at least. He guesses the department's short staffed enough and that the issues are important enough that they need everyone they can have and more.
<Nick|Joyeuse> Everything's starting to come to a crescendo. Freddy had some sort of idea that the city wasn't in a good place, but it's all becoming exceedingly obvious how bad things are. It makes him a bit nervous. Is he ready to get into another fight after what happened? As hard as he tries to convince himself that the answer is yes, his gut tells him no. More fighting is just going to lead to more people dying. Like Khandhas. Like Absynthesis.
<Nick|Joyeuse> He takes a breath. He has to concentrate. A hero needs conviction. It's not like he's on the strike squad, thank god. He can do this. After putting on some of the Wards apparel in his closet, he heads to the briefing. ||

<Antioch|GM> He gets to the meeting room earlier than some of the other capes, watching them trickle in. Four new capes, presumably the reinforcements, are sitting on one end of the table, and ---

<Nick|Joyeuse> Wow, that's impressive. Hopefully (and most likely) it belongs to one of the reinforcement capes, and not to someone who's part of the reason that everything's going to shit. Freddy fidgets in his seat. He hopes that he doesn't have a specific place he's suupposed to sit at. He doesn't like being first, and especially not when arriving alone. He scans the faces of the capes entering, looking for Annemarie or Tara. Those are really the only people he's had more than a one-off greeting with, so far.
<Nick|Joyeuse> The fact he's supposed to patrol with Feral and one of the reinforcements hits him. He barely knows them. Feral seems alright, at least from the two or three sentences he heard from her. And she offered him an autograph. He's never met the new guy, though. This whole building is full of strangers. He hardly knows anyone. It makes him want to leave. But that's not really an option, and besides, his whole goal was to get here. He's staying. He pulls up his feet onto the chair and crosses his legs. ||

<Antioch|GM> Cwn Annwn comes in, asking a couple of questions. He's more than heard of her, really, even chimed in on one of her forum threads. Listening in, he's able to figure out who's who, out of the reinforcements.
<Antioch|GM> She seems like a nervous wreck in person. ||
<Nick|Joyeuse> Freddy's gotten a lot of reminders and hints recently that superheroes are just people. And not always good people. The type of person who was a villain before being a hero? It makes sense that Cwn's not entirely put together. He's slightly disappointed. He thought that maybe she could help him join the Wards, when he was reading her thread. That would have been a lot easier than what actually happened, but the illusion of the online persona being removed makes it seem unlikely that that would have worked at all.
<Nick|Joyeuse> Still no one he knows. And everyone else is talking, and he's just sitting here in his chair being nervous. It's not a good atmosphere. ||

<Antioch|GM> Most of the Wards come in, Knuckleball, Switchblade, Embody. He doesn't see Ripcord or Lumina. Other Protectorate capes, other out-of-town capes he doesn't recognize.
<Antioch|GM> Embody gives him a little wave, and the Wards take their seats next to him. He catches snippets of the discussion between Valiant and Cwn Annwn. ||

<Nick|Joyeuse> Blackmail? Why would someone blackmail people to riot? Or are they rioting because of some other reason? It must be really bad out there. Freddy wants to help. If Tinkers are looking for some Tinker thing, that's probably related to why Antithesis attacked the hospital. Trying to get Blake. Killing Khandhas and Absynthesis.
<Nick|Joyeuse> He wants to know why that happened. Get back at the people who made it happen. Longinus is gone, probably, but all the other Tinkers out there aren't blameless.
<Nick|Joyeuse> He's antsy. Why is it taking so long for everyone to get here? Why are people so slow? There's rioting out there and a bunch of insane Tinkers trying to kill people. ||
