Golem King before the Golem

Decades ago, in the age of swords and shields, There was a kingdom. Rich, powerful, and large. A land run by a King who used a most powerful magic. Alchemy, the ability to change one element to another, limited by the rule of Equivalent Exchange. To gain, you must lose something of equal value. But there was a way around this. By using ones own soul as fuel, they can create from nothing. But while they can create, they still must feel the repercussions of burning up their soul

King------------ ruled the kingdom with a hard iron fist. While the citizens lived in a glorious town, they had strict laws and rules. The king was cruel when his law is broken, but his day to day life was different. He was hard, but gental. Those who followed the laws had no worry. The kings fury shall not come to them. But those who did break his laws or angered him saw a different side. Hard and unmoving, he often judged the criminals himself. While there are those who gained his rare forgiveness, many saw the horror Alchemy can do to their bodies.

While the King was kind to his citizens, none ever truly knew him. He was quiet, never spoke about himself or his life. He often spent days in one of his towers, Studying, learning and experimenting. There was only one person to become his friend. Grand Alchemist Cortez Grantiolo. The leader of the Alchemist Guild and the strongest in the land. He was the single man to break through to the Kings true self. Only he could be with him in his Tower when he experiments, and only he could disagree with him and have a say in what he does.

There were attacks on the Kingdom many times, and each time the King himself lead the charge. While he had knights to fight on his sides, the true power of his army was the Alchemist Guild. The best and strongest Alchemist in the Kingdom, lead by the greatest, Cortez Grantiolo. The Guild can turn the tide of a fight with little effort. Shifting the land below them or changing the very air to Fire. While the King was known to use Alchemy himself, he much rather use his Sword.

The King feared nothing. No enemy could make him retreat. He fights on and on through the day and night, determined to Kill everyone who attacked his land. But while the King can fight invaders and bandits, he couldn't fight the greatest foe of all. Time. As the years went by the King became weaker and weaker. He could no longer fight in the field as well as once before. Forced to retreat and let his Guild fight. He knew he soon wouldn't be able to fight on the field at all. But he knew one way around this. Immortality. Living forever. The only way to achieve this was something of legend and said to be unobtainable.

The Philosopher Stone
With this Stone, one could create and face no repercussion. Ultimate Alchemic Power, and eternal Life. But there was no way to create such an item. So it came down to finding it through Alchemy lore and legend. But years past and neither Cortez nor the King could find it. Search parties after search parties. Some who came back empty handed, and some who never returned. The King was getting old, No longer able to fight on the field. Cortez made it his swore duty to find a way to make the King immortal.

And he found a way.
