- Cold water ran down Lyra's neck, as she gently caressed her face with an ice cube. Beside her, upon the kitchen counter, her younger brother, Lemy Loud, panted heavily as he tried to beat the heat by waving a fan in his face. Looking at the topless young boy, from out of the corner of her eye, a cruel idea crossed her mind and so she acted it out. While he was distracted, she quickly jabbed Lemy's bare left nipple with an ice cube and the boy yelped from the cold shock. "Just what the heck was that for!?" He demanded to know, clenching his teeth upon seeing his older sister's smile. "Sit around me topless and that's what you get." Lyra replied. Lemy growled, ready and willing to have an argument right there and then. But, Lyra wasn't so interested. Instead, she muttered something that piqued Lemy's curiosity. "There must be a big storm on the way." She said, as she sat down on a chair opposite Lemy.
- "What? But, it's so nice and lovely outside. The sky looks like a big blue canvas." Lemy told his older sister, earning a snide remark for his troubles. "You only think that because you're still a kid."
- "Shut up!" Lemy barked, but Lyra ignored his rude comment and lectured him instead.
- "Yesterday was freezing and now it's boiling. That means the weather doesn't know what to do with itself. Kind of like Aunt Leni when her car alarm goes off." Lemy nodded as he took it in. He was about to interrupt Lyra, so that he could ask if Liena was the same way, but Lyra took off her jacket and suddenly Lemy lost his train of thought.
- Lemy took in the sight of Lyra's bare shoulders, exposed midriff and the water that ran down her neck and slipped down her top. He was absorbed by the sight. Lyra's sight, however, showed her dorky younger brother's eyes popping out of his skull as he leered at her. "Can you not?" She asked, clicking her fingers to get Lemy's attention. He came to and hurriedly came up with an excuse.
- "I was just wondering if I should let you know you were-" But Lyra was having none of it.
- "Just shut up Lemy. Point is, don't be too surprised if we're spending the night in the basement."
- Lemy got off the counter and walked over to Lyra, taking an ice cube from the bag she was holding and shoved it underneath his bandanna. "Well, at least it won't make much difference with you. If the ice caused your brain to slow down, that is." Lyra snarked. Lemy grumbled in response, but that was only because he didn't have a comeback for his older sister. After he popped back on the counter, he asked Lyra another question. "You think mum will be home today?" Lyra shook her head in response.
- "She's working overnight in the studio. Gotta pump out another album for when I go to college next year." Lyra explained, thankful that Luna could pull through for her or at least when it came to money. "So, if there is a storm, it'll be just us in the basement, won't it?" Lemy asked, picking up the fan and fiddling with it.
- "Sure will, Lemy. Just me and you, in a single room while the storm outside rages on. That won't be too much for you, will it?" Lyra teased, causing Lemy to shrink into himself slightly. Until he bounced back even louder. "No! Will it too much for you!?" He yelled. Expecting a solid reaction from Lyra. But, she stared at him blankly and replied drily. "Nice comeback, dipshit." Lemy was ready and willing to fight back, put he stopped himself; when Lyra stood up. "Come on, we better get the basement sorted out. Just in case there is a storm." She gestured, with a tip of her head, for him to follow her and then left, not looking back to see Lemy shadowing her footsteps.
- They then spent the next hour, together, putting two mattresses, quilts and pillows in the basement. Stopping several times, because of the intense heat. They also took down some musical instruments, in case they got bored, and some snacks and drinks. By the time they had finished, it had gotten much colder and the wind had picked up. "Yep, looks like we're staying below ground tonight." Lyra said as she looked up at the sky. Beside her, Lemy shivered. "Hey, why didn't you put your top back on?" Lyra inquired, as she watched her younger brother shake uncontrollably. "It was all sweaty." He answered, folding his arms in order to warm himself up. Lyra clicked her tongue and sighed. "All right, let's get you back inside and put a top on." Lyra stated softly, turning on her older sister voice as she took Lemy by the shoulders and guided him inside the house. Only to stop before they so much as reached the front door. She felt a static discharge from her long hair, as it touched against the back of her neck. She sucked her right index finger and then held it up to the air. "Change of plan." She said, pulling Lemy back and then guiding him back towards the basement.
- "What? I thought we were-" Lemy began, only for Lyra to interrupt him.
- "Yeah, that was then, this is now." She then took Lemy down to the basement, ignoring his protests.
- Once they were below ground, she tried to explain to Lemy. "Listen, Lem. I know you're cold and I know you want to go back up for a t-shirt. But, I don't want to take chances. I had a friend who was simply trying to get home one day, when she passed by a tree and a lightning bolt hit it; the sap boiled, the tree exploded and she was hit by hot shrapnel. I don't want something similar to happen to you." Lyra explained, her graphic detailing causing Lemy to fall silent. Silent, save for his shivering. Lyra sat down on her mattress and then patted her left leg. "I'm not sitting on your l-lap." Lemy stuttered, clearly overcome by the cold as the storm set in.
- "I had a friend that-" Lyra began, only for Lemy to interrupt her.
- "Okay, okay, I'll still on your lap." Lemy relented quickly, as he was scared that Lyra was going to tell another, in his mind, gruesome story. Lyra only had the one unfortunate story, however, and simply knew how to get her brother to do what she wanted, by bullshitting.
- Lemy tentatively sat down in Lyra's lap. But melted, when his older sister wrapped her arms around him. "So, what now?" Was the question Lemy posed to Lyra, quickly getting bored of sitting and doing nothing. "Well, I don't think we can play instruments, like this." Lyra answered back.
- "So, what? We sing?" He questioned as he looked over his shoulder at Lyra.
- "We can sing, if you want to sing." Lyra declared, mostly wanting to keep her younger brother occupied; but also slightly bored herself. "Yeah, I don't see why not." Lemy replied.
- "Alright, let's start with rainbow in the dark." Lyra whispered softly and the two started to sing together. In harmony. As a storm kicked up outside
- An hour later, the two had tired themselves out. But, Lemy wasn't as cold. So, Lyra let him go and settled down for a good night's sleep. Lemy was about to settle down too, but a large crashing sound caused his heart to jump into his throat. He turned and looked at Lyra and the two simply stared at other, until she gave in. "Fine." Was all she said and that was all it took for Lemy to jump under the quilt with her. He then felt her naked flesh against his own. "Why are you naked?" He asked, turning red.
- "I forgot my PJ's and I don't want to sleep in my bra. Besides, I'm not naked, I've got my panties on." Lemy wasn't sure how to respond to that answer. But, he loved her warmth. So, he didn't argue. Instead, he closed his eyes and slept next to his older sister.
- When morning came, Lyra dressed, Lemy looking away as she did so, and the two left the basement. They then inspected the damage to their home. "Not to bad, I think some walls might need repairing, if we don't want to be breathing in black mould, somewhere down the line. But, aside from that, there's only one broken window." Lyra detailed as she surveyed what had been wrought, upon their home, by the storm. Lemy, meanwhile, pretended to know what she was talking about. "Looks like it was my bedroom window that was buggered. That's too much of a pain. Dad can deal with that. Until then, I guess I'm bunking in with you." Lyra said, rubbing her temples in dismay. Lemy wasn't enthusiastic either and quickly tried to argue with Lyra. "You can't do that, then it'd be like we're a couple!" He shouted, not caring about all the other people, in the street, who had come out to inspect the damage. Lyra couldn't help but laugh at her younger brother. "Yeah, right, I'd never go for someone like you. You'd have to be responsible and charming, well-mannered and captivating." She listed out all the things that Lemy wasn't as she made a run for the front door. "What have you got going for you?" Lyra said, as she reached the door handle. She opened the door and stepped behind it in a way that blocked half of Lemy's vision of her. "All you can do for me, is sing like a canary." She said in jest and then fled from view entirely. Once she had left, Lemy responded immediately. "I can be all that!" He yelled. "I'll prove it to you and I'll learn how to play the guitar too!" He called out, as he ran inside the house.
