- Mandy moved. Much faster than Eve expected. She was in motion without tensing first, with zero trace of hesitation. She flung herself at Adam with a very sophisticated Thai boxing kick. Adam was very fast himself, but he was not expecting this. The kick caught him in the balls with enough force to fold him in half. Mandy whirled, pulling a black metal cylinder from her pocket. At first Eve thought it was a gun or knife, but Mandy flicked her wrist and several telescoping sections snapped out and locked into place. It was an ASP, a collapsible truncheon. She whipped it across Adam’s head, and he managed to duck enough to take it on the skull instead of across the face, but the impact dropped him onto his side. He lay there, his face turning a dreadful purple, while Mandy stalked forward toward Eve.

- He turned and ran into the hall.
- Adam was fighting his way to his feet, but he was a wreck. Blood dripped down his right cheek and he wheezed like a dying drunk. Eve grabbed one arm and pulled him into the hall, following the man in black.
