  1. >You were a huge nerd back on earth
  2. >Ogres and Oubliettes sounded like DnD back home, so you were eager to give it a try
  3. >Twilight seemed pretty happy to have you join in, but the others weren't so eager
  4. >Rainbow was actually pretty hostile, and she's acting really grumpy as Twilight sets up the game
  5. >No boards or character sheets or anything, she's just asking everybody what class they want to play as
  6. >"What do you want to be, Anon?"
  7. >You scratch your head
  8. "Well, what kind of classes are there? Can I be a thief? A mage? A-"
  9. >Rainbow's frustrated groan cuts you off
  10. >"Just make him a healer! He isn't going to know what he's doing anyway!"
  11. >Twilight laughs nervously
  12. >"D-don't let her bad attitude spoil your fun, Anon! Although playing a healer would probably be for the best, at least until you learn the game."
  13. >She's writes something directly into the pages of the game manual, which is kind of odd
  14. >If it's anything like DnD, that book probably costs a fortune
  15. >Twilight turns to the others
  16. >"Is everyone all set?"
  17. >They all agree, and Twilight sets the book in the middle of the table
  18. "Aren't we going to need some dice or some-"
  19. >Suddenly the book flies open, and a blinding light erupts from the pages as they rapidly flip from cover to cover
  20. >You shield your eyes, and after a few seconds the cacophony ceases
  21. >You move your hand out of the way, and gasp
  22. >You're no longer in Twilight's castle playset
  23. >Instead, you're in the middle of a ruddy village, straight from the middle ages
  24. >Humans, elves, and dwarves mill about the streets alongside ponies, griffons, and minotaurs
  25. >"What do you think? I drew on some of your memories from back home to help create this setting."
  26. >You whip back around to Twilight, who's decked out in shining white armor
  27. "W-what is this? I thought this was going to be a pen-and-paper game! You know, dice rolls, math, storytelling!"
  28.
  29. >"That sounds really boring," Rainbow said.
  30. >Rainbow is some kind of archer
  31. >Looking at the rest of the group, you guessed that AJ was a barbarian, Fluttershy was a beastmaster, Rarity was a mage, and Pinkie was a bard or something
  32. >Rainbow comes in closer, rubbing her chin and smirking
  33. >"Hey, you're lookin pretty good Anon! Maybe you'll be more fun to have around than I thought!"
  34. >What is she talking about?
  35. >Glancing down, you see that you were dressed like a slutty belly dancer
  36. >There was more skin showing than clothes on top of it
  37. "What the fuck!? Where are my clothes?"
  38. >Rarity circles around you, nodding with approval
  39. >"This is the traditional garb worn by stallion healers! I must say, you do wear it quite well, darling."
  40. "I thought I would be wearing a robe or something!"
  41. >She frowns
  42. >"No, no, Anonymous, only the mare healers wear robes."
  43. >Of fucking course
  44. >Twilight hugs your leg reassuringly
  45. >"Don't worry Anon, you look really nice. More importantly though, we're going to have a lot of fun on our adventure! Right girls?"
  46. >They all agree on unison
  47. "Yeah, but-"
  48. >"C'mon, let's hit the tavern and I'll elaborate on the details of our quest."
  49. >You begrudgingly follow as she leads the way
  50. >Twilight leans over and whispers
  51. >"I'll protect you, okay? Just stick by me, and I'll keep you safe from monsters."
  52. >You sigh>Rainbow covertly nudges Applejack and lowers her voice
  53. >"Anon looks pretty hot in that gettup, huh?"
  54. >"I'll say. That colt's always dressed so formally, it's nice to finally see that exotic alien body up close."
  55. >Rainbow grins conspiratorially
  56. >"I bet you twenty bits I can fuck him before we get back home."
  57. >Applejack chuckles
  58. >"Yer on."
  59. The above is the prompts.
  60.
  61.
  62. “Twilight, I’d love to understand how in the hell this, this…”
  63. >You wave drastically around the town and the rather quaint looking landscape around you.
  64. “All of this!”
  65. >Twilight looks at you with a small tilt to her head, “Anon, you do know that I have magic right?”
  66. “W-well yeah, but wait, are you saying this is all just like an illusion so we can play better?”
  67. >One of Twilight’s wings comes up in a so-so gesture, “Something like that. The book I’m using as our medium is what is hosting the world. Right now we’re inside of the book as I write it down. Interestingly enough, I learned about it from a really old spell in the Castle of Two Sisters. It was a really fun adventure in there as well!”
  68. >”Twilight! Come on, mare! Let’s get the show on the road!” Rainbow Dash said, coming between you both before looking up at you with a leer, “Sides’ best we see if Anon here is gonna be worth the trouble.”
  69. “Cut me some slack, this is really different from my own games.
  70. >”O-oh well don’t worry. I can h-help if you want…?” Fluttershy said from behind you.
  71. “Thanks, I-”
  72. >”Aw shucks Sugarcube it ain’t /that/ hard. All you have to do is call out what your going to do and you’re good to go!” Applejack adds in before she adjusts the oversized axe on her side.
  73. “Anyone care to show and tell? How do I find out what I even have?”
  74.
  75.
  76. >A faint lavender glow envelopes one of your satchels on your skimpy loincloth. Twilight pulls free a slim book embossed with Anon, written in emerald across the front.
  77. >”This is your spellbook. It’ll have all the information that you’ll need—from spells, to skills, and even your general statistics,” Twilight explains, going into her ‘lecture’ tone as she adjusts her face plate.
  78. >Grabbing the book in your hands, you look inside.
  79. >The small amount of pages are not reassuring.
  80. >Scanning over the first couple, you soon find your stats, HP, MP, equipment, feats...
  81. >Hang on now, looking closer at the feats you scroll down to read a few aloud.
  82. “I Have Some "Medicine" Right Here--healing abilities or spells on party members of the opposite sex are 10% more effective… Twilight is this a legit thing?”
  83. >Twilight coughs before clearing her throat, ”Well of course it is! It’s just that most the time the girls never want to be the colt or the healer so we never get to see it in action before!”
  84. >Looking down at the feats again you find another one.
  85. “Scented Goods?”
  86. >”That’s a good one! That feat is a free heal whenever you do a strenuous action, which would be pretty much any standard action really.” Twilight said.
  87. “Oh no, I’m not upset, I’m just, surprised. Did you just draw up this for me ahead of time then, or was that a part of the spell?”
  88.
  89.
  90. >”Actu-” Rarity starts to say.
  91. >Twilight aggressive hip checks Rarity before she finishes
  92. >“All a part of the game book’s spell! It just takes the best suited class and assigns it! Yep! Nothing else!”
  93. >The forced smile and bruise on Rarity’s hip say something else, but you’ll let it go for now.
  94. “Cool. Alright I think I’m as ready as I’ll ever be. So tavern right?”
  95. >”I still don’t see why we have to meet up at the tavern for every adventure, Twilight. It’s just so cliche…” Pinkie grumbles from behind you as she test tunes her lute.
  96. >”Well Pinkie, I’m a sucker for the classics, and the last time we had you in charge of the spell, you wound up with all of us meeting inside of a poor npc’s home and abducting him into the adventure after we cleaned his whole pantry out.”
  97. >”It was fun though!”
  98. “What happened to the npc?”
  99. >Fluttershy beams as she explains, “Well it turned out that the little guy wound up helping us to save the day by being really sneaky and really good at talking.”
  100. >Digging her hooves in the ground you see Fluttershy blush lightly, “He also made a rather lovely bit of tea too…”
  101. >”Fluttershy Darling, I know he was a rather wonderful chap, but don’t forget the first rule,” Rarity says, gently laying a hoof on Fluttershy’s withers.
  102. “What first rule?” you ask as the troupe starts to filter into the tavern that Twilight found.
  103. >”That all we’re doing right now is just a game of course! Can’t really try to live here after all.” Pinkie answers popping up from above you.
  104.
  105. >Reaching up you grab the mare around her barrel and tuck against your hip, maybe this way she won’t do that again.
  106. >The jealous looks that Rainbow and Applejack send Pinkie’s way makes you think the the pink one intended for this.
  107. “Just wondering, but how long does a game of this last exactly?”
  108. >”Oh boy, here we go,” Rainbow said before being hushed by Applejack. “Well Sugarcube, thanks to Twilight’s magic doohickey, we can stay in here for hours at a time and it won’t even affect what happens in real life.”
  109. >That stops you in your tracks as you stare at the group.
  110. “You wot?”
  111. >”Well it’s a bit more complicated than that, Applejack. You see with Starswirl’s theories on time manipulation and the ph-”
  112. >”Oh my Celestia, Twilight, we know already. Can we just get on with the quest?” Rainbow said over riding Twilight.
  113. “Hang on, Dash. So we’re able to play to our heart’s content, but it won’t affect how long we’ve been gone?”
  114. >”Essentially? Yes.”
  115. “Awesome, so it’s like a good version of Jumanji.”
  116. >”What’s Jumanji?” Fluttershy asks.
  117. “I’ll tell you about it later, Shy. So Twilight, what’s this super amazing quest of yours?”
  118.
  119.
  120. >At your prompting, Twilight nods, setting her helm down on the table with a clink. The others assemble around the table to listen even as Rarity begins to order a few light meals for the group.
  121. >”Looking into the area, as well as what news there is in town, I’ve found a few things we can go after. First we can help in the border skirmishes between the kingdoms of Barken and Talon Claw. There are rumors saying that the skirmishes will evolve into full blown war at this rate, unless something drastic happens to stop it. Another lead I found was of a set of ruins that have finally been revealed since the invisibility barrier that once protected them has weakened. However, all those who’ve entered have yet to return. There is of course one more quest that we may engage in; it’s rather simple, but I think it would be a good start for Anon to get used to things.”
  122. >By the time Twilight had finished, the simple fare of sandwiches, mead and stew had arrived.
  123. >Amongst the sound of the group eating their meal, you keep an ear open to the conversations around you.
  124. >”I really want to try kicking some griffon flank!” Rainbow says to Applejack before digging into her stew with gusto.
  125. >Applejack simply rolls her eyes, “You always want to fight griffons. Just because you can shoot a bull’s eye from a hundred and fifty paces doesn’t even mean anything since you just fly up to the darn thing anyway.”
  126. >Turning away as the duo start to squabble and argue over the technicalities of certain shots, you look over to Fluttershy and Rarity.
  127.
  128. >”I’d love to help the two kingdoms get along, but those poor people in those ruins might need our help…” Fluttershy nibbles at her lip ideally playing with her spoon with her wing.
  129. >”Well I for one would rather not have to deal with those brutes of Barken, the last time we were involved with their ilk I had to shave my tail, twice!” Rarity says with a sniff before sipping at her mead.
  130. >A giggle snort from Pinkie is all the mage has in warning before she’s wrapped in a hug from the hyper bard, “Aw don’t be such a sour puss Rarity, it still grew back didn’t it?”
  131. >Fussing under the affectionate bard Rarity manages to free herself before having to fix her mane, “Yes well, Anon what do you think?”
  132. >At the question it feels as if the whole table turns to look at you in response.
  133. >Ah, stage fright we meet again.
  134. “Ahem, as much as I’d like the tutorial quest I don’t want to drag everyone down, so let’s check out those ruins and afterwards check out the two warring kingdoms.”
  135. >”Are you sure Anon?” Twilight asks a small frown crossing her face, “I don’t want you to be left behind once we get started…”
  136. >”Oh come on Twilight, Anon doesn’t mind so let’s get on with the adventure!” Dash says excitedly her plate amazingly already empty.
  137. >Talk about a fast eater…
  138. “Yeah, if anything this almost reminds me of a game I used to play, I’ll pick it up as we go.”
  139. >”Well Darling we wouldn’t want you to get hurt, so if you don’t mind you can hang in the back with me in that case.” Rarity gently pats your shoulder with a winning smile.
  140. “Thanks, so where them ruins at?”
  141.
  142.
  143. >Twilight looks a bit peeved, but she seems to dismiss the irritation as she pulls out her map laying it out between the bowls, plates and drinks.
  144. >”We’re here at the town of Hobb’s Knee, the ruins are further to the east past Ol’ Willow’s Tails, once we reach there we’ll need to follow the old roads north east until we reach the ruins. Before we head out everyone is packed right?”
  145. >After a chorus of yes Twilight smiles, “Excellent then let’s pay for the meal and head out!”
  146. >”Finally!” Rainbow exclaims having zipped over to the bar leaving behind a small stack of coins that are still rattling in place as they settle.
  147. >Chuckling at how impatient Rainbow is you follow out after your friends, checking over your own inventory while you walk.
  148. >Skimpy battle suit made of almost skin tight leather?
  149. >Check.
  150. >Simple wooden hammer that looks like a carpenter's mallet?
  151. >Check.
  152. >Rations?
  153. >Check.
  154. >Buckler?
  155. >Check.
  156. >Twilight shouting to arms while the girls let out battle cries?
  157. >C-Oh fuck what?!
  158. >You had just looked at your stuff, yet now you’re out in the middle of a countryside road.
  159. >Your front line, of Fluttershy, Twilight, and Applejack, charge forth at a pack of Timberwolves.
  160. >Pinkie raises a hoof up in the air before calling out a word that is lost in the sound of her lute, as one of the beasties is bodily thrown back by her sick riff.
  161. >Okay, chill out, this must be a simple encounter…
  162. >How the hell are you supposed to monitor their health!?
  163. >Wait, around their bodies you can see a faint outline of colors, most of them are covered in green with small splotches of yellow.
  164. >When Applejack takes a scratch after slamming her axe down into the skull of a timberwolf it clicks, the outlines are their health!
  165. >Taking out your little book you glance down to your first spell, Healing Light.
  166. >Seeing Rarity shout out the name of her spell, incinerating a timberwolf, you follow suit holding a hand out at Applejack.
  167. >Warm sunlight suddenly erupts from your hands coating the girls ahead of you with its light and you can see the yellow fade to green.
  168. >”Thanks Sugarcube!” Applejack calls out with a bloodthirsty grin as she hefts her axe up and goes back to the butcher’s work.
  169.
  170. >Nodding to her in return you keep your eyes on the battle as the last four timberwolves fall to your friends.
  171. >Looks like things are tur-
  172. >A shadow from the forest catches your attention.
  173. >Turning to it your eyes widen in alarm as a huge beast shaped like a man, but looking like a timberwolf, sprints at Rarity!
  174. >Your front line is nowhere near close enough to intercept!
  175. >Rainbow’s busy with her bow and has no melee options.
  176. >Your body is already moving by the time these thoughts have been processed.
  177. >Rarity had just started to turn to look at you before you reached her, and raised your buckler up to block the overhead strike from the brute.
  178. >The blow reverberates through your entire frame making you grit your teeth, but you hold steady!
  179. >A sharp intake from Rarity beside you before she screams out her spell, “Inferno!”
  180. >The brute erupts into flames, before it roars back in pain and anger swiping at you both.
  181. >Taking the hit you manage to shield Rarity from the blow before you both hit the ground rolling to a stop.
  182. >Cries of your name and Rarity’s is soon drowned out by the enraged roars of the beast.
  183. >Only for it to suddenly be silenced as five very pissed off mares descended on it.
  184. >Your head is still swimming a bit from the blow, yet you can’t stop smiling.
  185. >You’ve never felt more alive than at this moment or the adrenaline high has yet to wear off.
  186.
  187. >”Anon!” The first to reach you is Rarity skidding to a stop beside your supine form. Frantically Rarity begins to run her hooves across your frame trying to see if there are any wounds.
  188. >A couple of bruises are all that you have to show from your encounter. Each one showing all to well in the slutty belly dancer get up you’re wearing.
  189. >”Darling I’m so sorry that I hadn’t stopped that, that giant brute of a beast from harming you.” Rarity said continuing to fuss over you.
  190. >”You’re not the only one, where did that even come from Twilight? I thought we were going easy on Anon here?” Applejack asks shooting Twilight a frown.
  191. >”I don’t know why that happened! Honest! It was just supposed to be a normal encounter suited for our party’s skill level.” Twilight answers back worry lacing her tone.
  192. “Did you take into account my level versus everyone else?”
  193. >Sitting up, you rub at your ribs feeling tender before muttering Healing Light on yourself.
  194. >As you do the world around you slowly goes grey scale and fuzzy around the edges of your vision.
  195. >The only things with color and definition is your party. Twilight is looking through the thick book eyes rapidly moving back and forth as she reads.
  196. >Waiting for Twilight to find the problem you look back at Rarity.
  197. “So why is the world all grey like this?”
  198. >”Oh, it’s the pause menu when things don’t go to plan and Twilight has to fix something with the world.” Rarity explains.
  199. >Letting out a noise of understanding you stand up, or attempt to only to find yourself stuck in place.
  200. “What the hell?”
  201. >”That’s one of the problems with the pause menu, we’re not allowed to actually move from our place in the world. Otherwise the spell goes rather wonky.” Rarity answers you before you start to truly freak out.
  202. >”Oh! It was really fun when we tried it out,” Pinkie said, nearly vibrating in place from standing still, “I never knew that our bodies could fly that high up into the sky if we dialed a giant’s strength to the max value!”
  203. >”Quite, oh Twilight looks to have found the problem. What’s wrong with the spell Darling?” Rarity asks as Twilight closes her book before it erupts into motes of light that disappear into thin air.
  204. >The world slowly returns to color as Twilight takes a deep breath, “I don’t know what’s wrong with the spell.”
  205. >”Sugarcube, are you sure you don’t know?” Applejack asks scratching at her freshly healed wounds.
  206. >”Yes I’m sure. I triple checked the spell and everything is running smoothly. I can’t find anything that would explain that monster appearing.” Twilight said stress coloring her tone.
  207. >”Well no matter what comes our way I’ll bet we can beat it!” Rainbow boasts kicking her front hooves with vigor.
  208. >Never mind the fact that your whole back line got blind sided by the creature Rainbow.
  209.
  210. “Nothing for it I guess, so how far are we from the ruins?”
  211. >”Shouldn’t be too long now, I think it’s around the bend there.” Fluttershy answers you pointing ahead.
  212. >It would make some sense that the travel rules would be suspended unless certain events occurred. It hardly felt like you had just left town.
  213. >With party in tow your group soon arrives to find a ruin made of marble and sandstone worn away by time. Just before the ruins you can spot a sign that reads, ‘Danger, do not enter!’
  214. >”Twilight, Darling did you happen to hear anything about these ruins? Something that could help us be better prepared?” Rarity asks as you all come to a stop by the sign post.
  215. >”No, the most I heard was that these ruins just suddenly appeared overnight, ponies have gone in of course trying to figure out what is inside, yet none have returned.”
  216. >Rarity hums in thought at that before looking closer at a chunk of foundation that lays nearby, “I think I recognize this style.”
  217. >As soon as Rarity starts to inspect the stonework a small golden glow springs up around here before her eyes light up with glee.
  218. >”Oh! OH!” Rarity prances in place looking pleased as punch before whirling to look at the rest of you. “These ruins belong to the Copper reign in BD 500 or so I if recall!”
  219. >The rest of you simply stare at her blankly making Rarity huff in frustration.
  220. >”Honestly, Twilight spends the time to come up with the lore of the world and none of you have read it?” Rarity said exasperation thick in her tone.
  221. “First time playing with the world, can’t blame me for that.”
  222. >”Eh, I’m just here more for the fighting.” Rainbow said bluntly while Applejack nods beside her.
  223. >”I-I was more interested in the animal section…” Fluttershy murmurs avoiding Rarity’s gaze.
  224. >”Is the Copper reign really important then?” Pinkie asks as she balances atop one of the broken pillars.
  225. “Pinkie, be careful!”
  226. >”Psh I’m fi-whoa!” Pinkie teeters on her stand before tumbling off the stonework into kneel before you.
  227. >As you start to ask if she’s alright Pinkie jumps right back up like a demented jack in the box, “I’m okay!”
  228. >You simply shake your head before ruffling Pinkie’s mane, “Be more careful you dork.”
  229. >Pinkie simply ignores you content with the head rubbing.
  230. >”Ahem.” Rarity drags your attention back before she continues, “As I was saying, the Copper reign is famous for being one of the first kingdoms to use magic in the construction of their homes as well as forming the basis on which the later Platinum era adopted over time. So what we can expect from these ruins will be magical anomalies, constructs and most likely puzzle based locks.”
  231. “How in the world are you so sure of that?”
  232. >Flushing Rarity giggles to herself a look of pride across her face, “Well I do happen to have architect as my class profession after all. As well as my skill in history help place what type of buildings come from what era of course!”
  233. >”Yeah, yeah you’re really good at min maxing we get it Rarity.” Rainbow said rolling her eyes at her friends antics.
  234. >Rarity lets out a snort of disdain, “Last I recalled you were quite happy for my min maxing when I helped you make your character.”
  235. “Girls come on, let’s not fight alright?”
  236. >”Anon’s right. We should head in and be wary of any traps.” Twilight said walking towards the ruins first.
  237. >”Twilight did you forget? I go first.” Rainbow said jumping in front of Twilight before she went any further.
  238. “Rogue?”
  239. >”I’ve got the trap detecting and disarming for it after all.” Rainbow said with a smirk before turning back to slowly make her way to the entrance of the ruins itself.
  240. >Ahead is a large square building decorated with ornate columns that have been worn away by time. The archway is crumbling away revealing the foundation of the building as the stone litter the staircase leading into the building.
  241. >Waiting for Rainbow soon become tense as you watch her multi colored tail disappear inside the building.
  242. >A tense ten minutes pass by with the speed of a snail when you hear Rainbow shout out, “All clear!”
  243. >Stepping inside with the group you find a near empty room that has been ransacked from first glance.
  244. >What draws your attention is Rainbow standing in front of a vault door that bars her way.
  245. >”Is it a combination lock?” Twilight asked stepping closer to look at the door lifting up her helmet.
  246. >Standing head and shoulders above the little ponies you’re able to see that the door is featureless aside from a large protrusion shaped like a torpedo’s head.
  247. >”No dials, no levers, heck there isn’t even any handy clues around that can point at a button! Nothing!” Rainbow complains smacking the metal door which clangs with an echo.
  248. >You all freeze in place as the echo continues unnaturally so.
  249. >”R-rainbow, what did you do?!” Fluttershy squeaked out eyes wide in worry.
  250. >”I just hit, that’s all!” Rainbow said head on a swivel as she scans the room for traps.
  251. >You meanwhile are watching the door and are the only one to notice the dimly glowing light in the center of door.
  252. “Move!”
  253. >Shoving aside Twilight, who is standing right in front of the damn thing, you brace yourself for pain.
  254. >Instead of burning agony you instead feel nothing before a voice echoes in the room, “Test subjects acquired, initiating scan.”
  255. >Wot.
  256. >The dim light washes over both you and Twilight, then the whole group behind you.
  257. >”Beginning Download.”
  258. “Oh shi-”
  259. >A flash of aquamarine light fills your vision.
  260.
  261. >”Anon, Anon get up!”
  262. >Groaning you crack open your eyes only to shield them from the bright sunlight that obscures the pony above you.
  263. >”Sugarcube, I really need you up.” Something bites into the neck of your clothes yanking you up by your lapels.
  264. >Coughing you rub at your eyes as Applejack’s face soon comes into view as she rubs your back.
  265. >”Easy there colt. Catch your breath.”
  266. >As you cough you slowly look around yourself trying to figure out what the hell just happened.
  267. >You and Applejack are both sitting in a meadow with willowy trees that sway in the wind.
  268. ”Where the hell are we?”
  269. >”I don’t rightly know Sugarcube, but I do know that the others aren’t with us, so we best gear up, find our friends and figure out what happened.”
  270. >Nodding to your friend you stand up stretching in the wind when you hear a low clattering from over the hill.
  271. >Applejack and you both crouch down before moving towards the hill.
  272. >Over the hill you both pause staring at the creature before you.
  273. >What in the fuck…
  274. >Standing on two hind legs is a mechanical creature made of wires, metal plates and glowing lenses
  275. >it moves it’s head back and forth before a low chirp comes from it.
  276. >Sharing a look with Applejack she is just as lost as you before you hear it digs into the ground and large jaws open up as it tears into the dirt.
  277. “What is it doing?”
  278. >”Digging for food looks like.” Applejack replied holding her onto her axe tightly.
  279. “Think we can take it?”
  280. >Applejack takes a moment to look around the metal golem before nodding, “Yeah I think we can, but it’ll be best if we try to take it by surprise.”
  281. “Hey if nothing else, I can heal you back up right?”
  282. >More of the confident mare you remember shines through to you as Applejack flashes you a grin, “Ya know it!”
  283. >At that Applejack picks up a rock and toss it near the beast.
  284.
  285. >You stare at the crazy mare before she holds a hoof to her mouth and moves closer in the thick grass.
  286. >Fuck, wait!
  287. >The beast is getting closer to you and you /know/ you’re nowhere near good enough to sneak!
  288. >You take a step back.
  289. >SNAP
  290. >The beast perks up plates on it’s face lifting up as the lens turns red.
  291. “Shit shit shit shit!”
  292. >Scrambling back you hold your shield up to hide behind, the last thing you see is the hind legs racing down claws first.
  293. >THWACK!
  294. >The thud of a heavy body sliding in the dirt drags a peek from behind your shield.
  295. >Standing atop the robotic animal Applejack yanks her axe from the neck of the beast white fluid flowing down the head of the axe.
  296. “Next time, please warn me when you’re to use me for bait.”
  297. >”Relax Sugarcube, I wouldn’t let the mean critter get ya.”
  298. “It’s the principal of the thing dang it.”
  299. >”Well ta make it up ta ya, I’ll let you have the loot from it.” Applejack said offering the corpse of the beast to you.
  300. >Sticking your tongue out at her you kneel down beside it before running your hands along the sides of the machine.
  301. >Lots of exposed wires, some loose plating that could be melted down or worn as is…
  302. >When you reach into the undercarriage you hear something suddenly pop and out falls a square block with a strap on it.
  303. “The hell?”
  304. >”What is it Sugarcube?”
  305. “Some kind of device, don’t know what it does.”
  306. >”Well only one way to find out?”
  307. >You glance at Applejack with a raised eyebrow.
  308. “Do you want me to get cursed?”
  309. >”Well, no but it can’t be that terrible right? Come on it might be some amazing, you’ll never know unless you try it!” Applejack said looking earnestly at you.
  310. “Fine, fine...let me just, whoa!”
  311. >You jerk back in surprise as the block suddenly expands outwards with a light blue shield that feels solid to the touch as you hesitantly poke at it with your mace.
  312. >”Well I’ll be, that looks like one of dem spells Twilight does back home!” Applejack said tapping her axe against the barrier.
  313. >With each tap you notice a small counter on the box that hadn’t been there before slowly go down.
  314. “Hey give it a swing.”
  315. >”You sure Sugarcube? I can hit awfully hard.”
  316. >Setting in a wide stance you nod to the mare bracing yourself.
  317. >”Alright, don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Applejack warned you before taking her axe and swinging with both hooves.
  318. >A solid thud runs through the air and you slide back from the blow, yet the barrier held though you notice the numbers had drastically gone down.
  319. “Ha! Knew it! This works like some kind of rechargeable shield!”
  320. >”Awesome, that must be some kinda rare drop or something.” Applejack replied before hosterling her axe. “We’d best get a move on.”
  321. “Right, where do you think would be the best place to go?”
  322. >”East.” Applejack said walking away already making tracks.
  323. >You hurry along after her walking beside Applejack, “What makes you say that?”
  324. >An orange hoof points up to the sky and following you see what looks like smoke trails in the sky.
  325. >”Where’s there's smoke there’s a fire and that means either a ruin or a village. Hopefully it’s the latter.”
  326. “Huh, color me impressed.”
  327. >Applejack preens in pride nonchalantly puffing up her chest tuft as she does so.
  328. >”Well shucks just common sense is all.” Applejack said with a faint blush.
  329. >Ruffling her mane you smile at her at the grumpy frown that crosses her face. Even when these ponies get mad they’re adorable.
