  1. NEO 17 (r9 - codename Butterfly) changelog [2nd testbuild - SGS/Telus, Captivate, Vibrant]
  2.
  3. Changes (from r9 - 1st testbuild):
  4.
  5. • fixed typos in system_tweak related to agps tweaks - thanks to DerTeufel for spotting them !
  6. • new prebuilt driver to reflect changes to the kernel
  7. • switched to floating-point optimizations + soft-float + neon [hardfloat seemed to have caused issues]
  8. *crossing fingers* that it's more stable now
  9. • like in the previous build: led-notifications included in the kernel by default - flavors: stock colors, voodoo color
  10.
  11.
  12. NEO 17 (r9 - codename Butterfly) changelog [1st testbuild - SGS/Telus only]
  13.
  14. Changes (from r8):
  15.
  16. • changed back to platypus optimization flags (away from graphite flags - might have caused those SODs - sleep of death) [troubleshooting attempt]
  17. • added network tweaks to all remaining networks (system_tweak)
  18. • raised the number of events for GUI - potential smoother (system_tweak)
  19. • some more s5p changes (cleanups)
  20. • boost of in-call volume (kudos to efpophis)
  21. • re-enabled setprop settings for improved battery runtime [testing + need feedback]
  22.
  23. NEO 17 (r8 - codename Butterfly) changelog
  24.
  25. Changes (from r7):
  26.
  27. • added ondemandb ('b' for battery efficient - ondemand with stock - more battery-friendly thresholds & settings)
  28. • add sampling down option to ondemand, ondemandb, ondemandX to control from userland
  29. • fixed up UV voltage table - UV should work now [testing]
  30. • lowered transition latency to 40 µs (more stability - thanks to pawitp for the idea !)
  31. • fixed led-notifications & touchkey lockup/hanging (thanks to pawitp)
  32. • some general ARM + sha fixes
  33. • switched to August (08/2011) snapshot for the toolchain
  34. • lowered optimization flags to mainly graphite only (more stability, in some areas more performance)
  35. • tweaked savagedzen to make it more usable (still bumpy from time to time)
  36. • +/- led-notifications kernel [if not wanted: disable via quiet hours in CM7, disable in MIUI] (testing effect on battery runtime when disabled - need feedback in XDA thread)
  37. • improved battery runtime with failed suspend attempts [less cpu & battery burning - EXPERIMENTAL]
  38. • made some corrections to the S98system_tweak script
  39. • (probably noticable) faster booting
  40.
  41. • when comparing "stock" cm7 kernel with this one use ondemandb governor - this should be very similar
  42. to the ondemand governor from stock; ondemand governor in this kernel is more aggressive (smoother and clocks up faster)
  43.
  44.
  45. NEO 17 (r7 - codename Butterfly) changelog
  46.
  47. Changes (from r5):
  48.
  49. • switched to preemptible tiny_rcu with priority-boosting
  50. • switched from platypus optimization flags to stock flags for prebuilt modem driver + graphite & additional tree/loop optimization flags for rest of kernel
  51. • rwsem improvements
  52. • some more ARM (platform) fixes
  53. • MTD fixes & improvements
  54. • lowered ramping-up threshold of ondemandX to 85
  55. • a few more s5p fixes
  56. • overall more performance & more consistent experience (probably less lags/smoother)
  57. • [not sure if activated] some more randomisation [more security]
  58.
  59.
  60. NEO 17 (r5 - codename Butterfly) changelog
  61.
  62. Changes:
  63.
  64. • [samsung upstream] improved usb signal quality
  65. • reworked & updated system_tweak script included [rp_filter disabled so VPN should work out of the box, faster ringing during call, some speed-ups & tweaks in several areas]
  66. • BFQ as default i/o scheduler (in script)
  67. • noop should be default without scripts [via kernel]
  68. • back to well established & tested platypus optimization flags
  69. • [cm7 upstream] more accurate battery stats [no 100% after unpluggin usb-cable/charger]
  70. • re-added & re-ported docksound audio support [needs docksound redirector app]
  71. • even more battery runtime improvements
  72. • refresh rate back to 68 from 72 - less issues
  73. • re-added support back for Telus Fascinate
  74. • logcat is now enabled by default [doesn't seem to make a difference in battery runtime with GB bootloaders anymore]
  75. • [cm7 upstream] added protection against accidentally touching the keys
  76.
  77.
  78. additional Options:
  79.
  80. • screenstate_scaling V49 (Neo 17 r5): http://bit.ly/rd2yfk
  81. [S98system_tweak is already included & delivered with the kernel]
  82.
  83.
  84. Recommended additions:
  85.
  86. • Chainfire3d
  87. • [better but not full multitasking] V6 SuperCharger [memory script from #1 post only: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12058585&postcount=1] - no need for kickass script or other stuff - platypus scripts already have most / all of that and more stuff included <-- need feedback on stability, multi-tasking capability
  88. [Install script manager from the market, run it, navigate to the script on your sdcard,
  89. select the script, tick "run as root", press run. It will ask for user input after starting.
  90. Hold down left soft key to bring up the keyboard, type in 0 and press return.
  91. Next time it asks for input type in 9, press return, then 17 next time. Done.]
  92. • Auto Memory Manager [similar what V6 SuperCharger does] here you can set to have multitasking
  93. or the system to aggressively free memory
  94. • (for OC/UV): Voltage Control, Pimp my CPU, Control Freak, etc.
  95. • for monitoring the system and apps going crazy: Usage Timelines
  96. • for modem/wifi driver stability: speedtest.net <-- run speedtest & watch if phone reboots during upload phase
  97. • OC/UV stability: run mobo player or any other video player with HD videos for +15 minutes (in software mode)
  98. • CPU Spy: for Frequency & usage statistics of the cpu
  99. • Screen Filter: for more advanced screen dimming
  100. • Voodoo Control: for awesome sound
  101.
  102.
  103. Troubleshooting:
  104.
  105. • disabling led-notifications in CM7: "quiet hours" (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/CyanogenMod_Settings#Sound_settings)
  106. • disabling led-notifications in MIUI: settings -> personal -> led-settings
  107.
  108.
  109. Feedback - and on stability testing:
  110.
  111. • run the app from "speedtest.net" a few time with different servers with 3G+data/wifi if possible
  112. if it does NOT reboot during upload phase it's a good start [modem driver wise]
  113. • some general phone stability: open up bit.ly (redirection) links via browser, watch youtube
  114. videos, flash content, etc. ; browsing on github.com
  115. • benchmarks (some mild stability & performance tests): gpubench, smart bench 2011, quadrant standard,
  116. antutu, an3dbenchmarkXL, nena mark (+ submit result on nenamark & browse results <-- that lead to reboots on pre-Neo kernels in the past)
  117. • opening up e.g. "advanced task killer" immediately after the bootup [with or without 1st locking of the screen via power button]
  118. • playing back a (HD) movie for at least 15 minutes [mainly for OC (overclock), UV (undervolt) stability]
  119. • latency & smoothness related: doodle dash, tap tap revenge 4, labyrinth lite, ...
