Wandering Winds pitch

Harpy — Yesterday at 7:00 PM
so basically, with some of the downtime at work, i've been able to work on a writing project so i don't check my phone every second i'm bored

i named it wandering winds, mostly because one of the characters is Oersted, and he uses wind magic and wanders and eventually the protags will wander too

so there's two protagonists that we see through in 1st person: the first is Tanya Woodson, a mage who has a unique way of casting magic without a staff involving hand motions and gestures, and the second is Damien O'Donovan, a plain ol warrior

the two were childhood friends and kinda sorta drifted apart, but they kinda still hung out every once in a while, but

tanya dislikes damien's attitude and what she views as glory hogging and being a thrillseeker not settling for fighting weak monsters, and is jealous because every time they're in a tournament together and both of them make it to finals to face each other, she always loses

Damien has no idea about any of this because she generally avoids talking to him about her emotions and she feels like she has to bear these emotions alone

meanwhile, damien is a bit of a braggart and definitely a thrillseeker, but ultimately he really likes Tanya as a friend and respects her fighting ability, and would talk all day about how cool she is, but since drifting apart, he hung out with other dudes and they kinda instilled some bad attitudes in him because he felt like he had to copy them to feel welcome, not aware that the change is actually hurting tanya's feelings

so he's generally confused on why she never seems to be around and genuinely wants to hang out more, but between being a Top Tier Hero, absorbing bad social habits from people, and just a general awkwardness in social situations when he's not with anyone he knows, it doesn't work out

main plot is simply "monsters are unnaturally aggressive, two protags and their tagalongs go out and seek the reasons in different ways and different places", with the subplot being "learning to communicate your emotions"

so far tanya kinda sorta sounds like eeyore at first because she's in a bad mood after losing a close fight, focusing on how she feels and venting to people who are usually there for her (but admit they're getting a bit tired of her doing this every time she loses in a tournament to damien)

meanwhile damien sounds like air bud if air bud was human. he's a jock golden retriever being taught by awful dog owners

so writing the two perspectives were really drastically different and it kinda made me more excited to write and connect dots since the first arc has them diverge on different paths (tanya staying in the village investigating local monster issues, damien going to a kingdom to do a quest at the request of the king that is related to monster raging)

funny writing thing that happened: so the first chapter is going over 2 different perspectives on the last fight of the tournament between tanya and damien. tanya's disappointed that she lost, especially since she was confident she had him pinned

meanwhile from damien's perspective, he's just... so proud of her to get hits on him and likes it. then he goes, "wait, does that make me a masochist?"

(bonus: he was tempted to just let Tanya win towards the end, but felt like she wouldn't be satisfied learning that he threw it on purpose and it'd feel worse than an honest loss)
